Faye's POV
The infirmary door slammed open as Selena stumbled through, barely keeping one of the wounded men on his feet. "Two more casualties coming in," she called out, strain evident in her voice.
The cramped space reeked of burning herbs mixed with the metallic tang of fresh blood. Smoke from the braziers made everything hazy, creating shadows that danced across the walls.
"Bring them here," Allen shouted from across the room, not bothering to glance up from the soldier he was treating. His hands were stained crimson up to his forearms, working with practiced efficiency.
Selena nodded and guided the injured men toward an empty cot. I remained hidden behind the canvas partition Allen had set up for me. He claimed it was for my protection, to keep me from being overwhelmed by desperate soldiers. Only the most critical cases made it to my corner.
