Faye's POV
The words tumbled out before I could stop them. "You don't look like someone who can dance."
Hardy's head turned toward me, his expression shifting to something dangerously quiet. "Excuse me?"
Heat crawled up my neck as I noticed the sudden silence spreading around us like ripples in water. Every conversation within earshot had died. Perfect.
"That's not what I meant," I backtracked quickly, raising my palms. "I meant you don't appear to be a dancer. Completely different statement."
A soldier somewhere to my left snorted with laughter. Selena's voice rang out from behind me. "Watch yourself, my Lady. He might just show you how wrong you are."
Hardy's eyebrow arched slowly. "Perhaps I will."
My stomach dropped as his fingers wrapped around my hand. The world tilted as he pulled me toward the clearing near the crackling bonfire.
