Chapter 639 - Chapter 639: Battle of the Valley

Chapter 639: Battle of the Valley

The Eastern Valley, true to its name, was a deep ravine blanketed in lush bioluminescent vegetation.

A rushing stream carved through its center, providing an abundant water source that drew countless Pandora creatures to drink, making it an ideal hunting ground for the Na'vi.

Escorted by four Scorpion gunships, two Samson transports flew low over the canopy, their deafening roar shattering the valley's tranquility.

According to plan, the Hellfire Squad fast-roped into a clearing roughly one kilometer away from the objective area. Dispersing into tactical formations, they advanced rapidly toward the heart of the valley, masked by the dense flora and guided by their advanced sensor suite.

Sergeant Reynolds monitored the incoming telemetry through his helmet's heads-up display.

"All units, heads up. Sensors indicate a large concentration of bio-signatures ahead. The distribution pattern... does not look like routine hunting. Stay sharp and transition to Protocol B."

Just as the Hellfire Squad was about to enter the narrowest corridor of the valley, all hell broke loose!

From the towering cliff faces draped in glowing moss on both sides, and from the massive branches of ancient spiral trees, countless Na'vi silhouettes suddenly surged into view!

Unleashing deafening war cries, a torrential rain of arrows poured down from above, interspersed with heavy throwing spears and crude organic explosives!

"Ambush! Take cover!" Sergeant Reynolds roared.

The well-drilled Hellfire operators immediately took cover behind boulders and massive buttress roots. The high-pitched pre-charge whine of plasma rifles rang out instantly across the line.

Clashing Strategies

The battle erupted into white-hot intensity.

The Na'vi held absolute mastery over the terrain and vastly outnumbered RDA projections. Warriors from the Omaticaya clan, reinforced by allies from the Tipani clan, had formed a tight encirclement.

Dense salvos of arrows plunged from the high ground. The powerful bone-tipped shafts easily penetrated vulnerable joints in standard RDA armor, while heavy thrown spears posed a severe threat to the joints and external mounts of AMP suits.

Pinned down by this sudden, ferocious ambush, the RDA forces dug in behind rock outcroppings and tree boles to organize their defensive perimeter.

Sergeant Reynolds remained calm amidst the flurry of arrows, rapidly barking orders over his helmet comms: "Fireteam Alpha, suppress the high-ground positions on the left cliff! Fireteam Bravo, clear hostile targets in the right canopy! Call in close air support immediately to take out the archers on the ridges!"

Two Scorpion gunships roared as they dove into the canyon, their rotary cannons raking the clusters of Na'vi on the rock walls with blistering fire.

Explosive rounds and shattered stone engulfed several Na'vi warriors who were too slow to evade. However, many more utilized their astonishing agility to dart between rock crevices and thick boughs, severely degrading the gunships' strafing efficiency.

As the engagement ground into a stalemate, Tsu'tey—riding his Ikran like a streak of blue lightning—tore through the cloud layer in a blistering dive.

Locking onto a gunship as it banked to reset its attack vector, he tensed his powerful arm muscles and hurled his spear with pinpoint accuracy.

The spear transformed into a dark blur, punching clean through the cockpit's armored canopy!

The struck Scorpion shuddered violently before veering off in a trail of thick black smoke, crashing into the valley floor and erupting into a towering fireball.

"For Eywa! For Hometree!" Tsu'tey raised his arms high as he circled overhead, his triumphant war cry echoing throughout the canyon.

This thunderous strike supercharged the morale of the Na'vi warriors, sending an even denser barrage of arrows and spears raining down upon the RDA lines.

The Technological Chasm

However, the tide of battle reversed in an instant.

The moment Hellfire Squad absorbed the initial shock of the assault and brought their optimized plasma rifles to bear in disciplined counter-fire, the Na'vi realized with rising horror that the formidable physical resilience they had always relied upon was utterly useless against these lethal beams of light.

A searing white bolt of plasma tore through the air, taking an Omaticaya hunter dead in the chest just as he leaned out from behind a trunk to loose an arrow.

The extreme thermal energy instantly burned clean through his torso, leaving a scorched, hollow cavity. He didn't even have time to cry out before toppling backward in his firing stance; the longbow slipping from his grasp was vaporized by a second beam that followed immediately after.

Not far away, a Tipani brave brandished a heavy bone war hammer and charged forward.

He nimbly dodged two incoming pulses, but the moment he leaped into the air, a third plasma beam struck him full in the face.

His skull ruptured under the blistering heat, the flying tissue carbonized before it could even hit the ground, filling the air with a choking, acrid stench of burned flesh.

The destructive power demonstrated by the plasma weaponry far exceeded conventional kinetic firearms.

There was no dull thud of arrows piercing flesh, nor the concussive shockwaves of explosions—only near-silent, absolute death. In the flash of blinding white light, life was either vaporized or reduced to cinder.

The Na'vi warriors, who had once relied on their agility to dart through the trees, were transformed into glaring targets.

Watching his brothers fall in flashes of blinding white light, Tsu'tey let out a furious roar from above.

He wheeled his Ikran around and dove once more, attempting to destroy the lethal marksmen on the ground. This time, however, he was met with an interlocking web of plasma bolts.

Though he pulled hard on the reins to evade, a searing blast of energy grazed the right wing membrane of his mount.

The Ikran let out a shrill, pained shriek, forced to pull up hard, unable to pose any further threat to the ground forces.

The tactical initiative had completely shifted hands.

The Bitter Retreat

"Fall back! Everyone retreat deep into the valley!" Eytukan roared, searing agony tearing through his chest as he watched his kin cut down in swathes by the blinding light.

His roar of bitter frustration reverberated through the canyon, every syllable soaked in despair.

What had begun as a meticulously planned ambush had collapsed under the brutal reality of a technological chasm, degenerating into a one-sided slaughter.

When casualties were tallied following the engagement, the RDA had suffered only a handful of minor injuries and a damaged hydraulic joint on an AMP suit.

The Na'vi coalition, comprising warriors from both the Omaticaya and Tipani clans, left behind more than seventy corpses in the valley—over eighty percent of them killed instantly by the plasma rifles.

The wounded were too numerous to count, their pained groans echoing across the ravine.

Supporting their wounded and carrying the remains of their fallen brothers and sisters, the surviving Na'vi retreated into the deep recesses of the valley in grim silence.

The air hung heavy with the pungent stench of charred flesh and the sweet, metallic scent of Na'vi blood. The scorched earth radiated residual heat, broken weapons and shredded bioluminescent flora floated along the stream, and lavender blood stained the glowing undergrowth with an eerie sheen.

Back at Hell's Gate, Colonel Quaritch could hardly contain his excitement upon receiving word of the victory.

He slammed his hand onto the tactical display, heaping praise upon Maine: "Did you see that? That is the power of true professionalism! The gear and doctrine you provided have completely rewritten the rules of engagement!"

Meanwhile, inside the main control room of the Trailblazer mobile base, Ryo calmly reviewed the combat telemetry and visual logs relayed by Maine.

Every detail of the plasma fire tearing through the Na'vi defensive line was systematically processed and analyzed.

Taking a measured sip of water from the cup on the console, Ryo's gaze rested on the final casualty figures.

Everything was advancing according to design—the weight of operational pressure had fallen precisely into place. Now, he only needed to wait for that pressure to produce its intended fractures within Na'vi society.
