Chapter 10 - Chapter ten: sudden ambush.

Light shone through the trees. The air was cold and quiet, filled with the scent of dew and flowers and the sound of birds chirping.

Lila turned under her blanket, blinking against the soft light. For a moment, she forgot where she was—then the distant sound of horses reminded her.

Davien was already awake. He stood by the carriage, packing their belongings, his silver hair glowing faintly in the morning light, his expression calm and distant as usual.

"Get up. We need to start moving," he said without turning.

She rubbed her eyes, stretching her hands, her voice still drowsy.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" she asked, standing to fold her blanket.

"You need rest more than I do," he replied.

Lila smiled, faint color rising to her cheeks. She gave a quiet "hmm" before walking toward the carriage.

Then they got in and continued their journey.~~~~~~~~~~~~

"So, can you finally tell me more about where we're going?" Lila asked, looking out the window.

But he didn't reply. He just sat there, closing his eyes.

"Oh, come on. I know you aren't sleeping." She turned to look at him. "So, you're not going to tell me, are you?"

"No," he said simply.

The bluntness of his answer clearly annoyed Lila. "You are impossible," she muttered, turning back to face the window.

Silence filled the carriage once again

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By evening, the sun was already setting, the breeze turning colder. Lila and Davien hadn't spoken a word to each other all day.
"Lila," "Lila," Davien called.
But she refused to turn.
Why should I answer him? He thinks he can act all cold and arrogant… she thought to herself.
"Lila," Davien called again—this time louder.
"What?" she answered with clear annoyance.
"Get down," he said.
"What? What do you mean, get do—"
Before she could finish, an arrow flew past her in an instant,missing by only a few inches and landing on the carriage wall. Lila stared at it, fear flashing in her eyes.
"That's what I meant when I said get down," Davien said, his voice calm.
Then another arrow came—this time directly toward Lila. She gasped, her eyes wide, but before she could move, Davien grabbed her wrist and pulled her down.
They fell hard against the floorboards, his arm wrapping protectively around her as more arrows came flying into the carriage.
For a moment, everything was chaos—the horses neighed wildly, and the distant footsteps of the attackers grew closer.
Then silence—just the sound of their breathing. Davien's face hovered inches from hers, his breath brushing against her cheek. His expression remained calm as always, his deep blue eyes locking with hers.
"We're being ambushed," he murmured, his voice low and steady. "Stay quiet."
Lila's heart pounded in her chest. She could feel his warmth, could barely breathe. She gave a small, trembling nod, her cheeks flushing despite the danger.
Outside, the noise grew louder—men shouting, horses neighing.
Then he placed his hand gently on her head.
"Don't move until I come get you," he said quietly, his voice softening. "No matter what happens."
Before she could answer, he pushed himself up, drawing two knives she'd never knew he had.
Lila lay frozen, grabbing the edge of her cloak as he kicked the carriage door open and stepped out.
Through the opened door, she caught a glimpse of him his dark coat,his brood shoulders and sharp features his bright silver hair has. he also been this handsome Lila thought to herself sitting up.
