The Harrison & Associates office on Friday morning was filled with its usual energy. But there was something different in the air. There was a sensation like before a storm arrives, when everyone could feel the change in pressure but didn't yet know where it was coming from.
Emma arrived at the office at eight o'clock in the morning. She tried to look normal, tried to smile as usual when greeting the receptionist. But behind that smile was deep exhaustion. There was a burden she carried from the awkward morning at home.
She went directly to her desk in the workspace she shared with four other administrative staff. Her desk was located in the corner of the room, which gave her a little privacy from the others. She turned on her computer and started with emails from the night before.
That's when she heard the whispers.
