Chapter 13 - Play

When Jay and Ruby arrived at the cotton candy vendor, several children were already filling the area in front of them.

Seeing the children's expectant faces, Jay and Ruby, who were waiting in line, felt happy.

"Uncle, I want some cotton candy," Ruby's soft voice was heard giving an order to a middle-aged man selling cotton candy.

"Okay, wait a moment," the man replied with a warm smile.

Soon, Ruby's order was ready, and with a happy and joyful feeling, Ruby took a bite of the pink cotton candy.

"Ummm...it's soft and sweet..." Ruby said to Jay with a childlike expression.

"Do you want some?" Ruby asked, holding out the cotton candy she was holding.

"Okay," Jay took a bite without hesitation.

A sweet and creamy taste immediately filled his mouth.

"Yes...this is a nostalgic taste," Jay said, swallowing the sweetness of the cotton candy he had just eaten.

For a moment, Jay seemed to be transported back to a memory he had shared with his family.

Back when he was still in junior high school, Jay and his family went to a night market near their house.

At that time, the night market was still a major entertainment attraction in the local community.

There, Jay vaguely remembers how thriving the night market was with his family.

With the cheerfulness brought by his little sister and the generosity of his parents, Jay could tell that even though he was quite mature at the time,

He still found it enjoyable to accompany his little sister on some of the rides at the night market.

It wasn't until the family returned that Jay realized that some of his behavior at the night market had been quite embarrassing.

Thinking about this, he felt embarrassed.

Ruby, seeing Jay frozen in place, was confused by Jay's reaction.

After Jay took a bite of the cotton candy she had offered him.

"Hey...Jay...Jay..." Ruby gently shook Jay's hand.

"Ahhh...sorry, Ruby," Jay regained his senses.

"Why are you silent?" Ruby asked curiously.

"It's okay, I was just remembering some fun moments," Jay said with a smile.

"Um, okay then, let's move on." Not wanting to delve further, Ruby led Jay somewhere else. Ruby had a vague idea of what Jay was thinking, but she knew that discussing it would only upset him, so it was best to forget about it.

"Let's go," Ruby said, leading them to a place where a game was quite busy.

Arriving there, Jay and Ruby were greeted by a variety of prizes neatly displayed on shelves.

There was a large board filled with nails with numbers written underneath.

Seeing this, Jay knew this was likely a booth offering a ring toss game, where players would try to throw rings into numbered nails to exchange them for prizes.

This game wasn't easy. Although it seemed simple, if you weren't skilled and experienced, you'd often miss or even miss your target.

As for the reason why this happened, it was, of course, due to some tricks employed by the vendor.

"Want to try?" Jay asked Ruby.

"Yeah, it looks fun," Ruby replied.

"Okay, then let's play, but don't overdo it because we still have a lot of places to visit," Jay reminded him.

"I know!" Ruby replied quickly.

"Boss, how much is it?" Jay asked a fat man who seemed to be the brains behind the game booth.

"5 dollars for 5 rings," the fat boss replied.

"Okay, then I want 10 rings," Jay handed the boss $10. (We won't discuss whether it's expensive or not, because the price listed is essentially a mutual agreement between the night market management and the venue where they open the night market. This is of course adjusted to the purchasing power of the people there, so there's no need to discuss whether it's easy or not.)

"Here, you can try 5 rings, and I'll try 5 rings too." Jay handed 5 rings to Ruby.

"Come on... let's see who's the best!!" Ruby said mischievously to Jay.

After she accepted the 5 rings Jay gave her,

"1... ahhh... why isn't it in...

2... that's almost it..."

Just...

3... yeah... why did it go in there...

4... ahhhhhh...

5... almost there!!!!!

Why do I keep failing!?" Ruby complained to Jay.

"Just think Lady Luck isn't on your side," Jay replied casually.

"Like you're so lucky, let's see," Ruby replied in disbelief.

"Come on..." Jay ignored Ruby and decided to throw all the rings he had at once.

Where many numbers gathered in one place.

"1... 2... 3... soooo ... "Hey... you're lucky, young man!" the boss praised him and then took prize number 7, which was two cheap chocolates immediately given to Jay.

"Not bad... this isn't bad," he received two cheap chocolates from the fat boss.

"Look... I'm lucky, aren't I... here, I'll give you one for me." Jay handed one chocolate to Ruby.

"Consider yourself lucky, but thanks for the chocolate," Ruby replied with a smile and held the chocolate Jay gave her.

"Let's go," after accepting the chocolate Jay had given her, Ruby then led him to another game booth that was currently crowded with children.

"Ehhhh... why are we here?" Jay asked in surprise when he saw the booth in front of him was now filled with children sitting around.

"I wanted to go fishing... and I was afraid of getting wet, so this was a good choice," Ruby replied with a happy expression.

"But... isn't this a children's game?" Jay asked back to Ruby.

The game booth they visited this time was a fishing booth, containing a plastic swimming pool filled with small magnetic fish.

"There's no sign that says adults aren't allowed to play," Ruby rebutted Jay, remaining stubborn and immediately paying the fishing fee and joining the group of children.

Seeing Ruby's behavior, Jay was speechless; their women really liked to act like children.

Jay sighed inwardly, and decided not to join in, because a booth filled with children was bound to cause trouble, after all.

And Jay was right about that, because before long, a child next to Ruby was crying...
