Chapter 281 - Chapter 281 - No More Sacrifices

The fairies set their feet on the ground and approached the others.

Looking at her friends, Minx said, "from now on, you guys go first. If they have beasts that Mom couldn't defeat with her sword, to the point she got overwhelmed and they harmed her, you all need to get stronger. We'll use the swords only when necessary."

Not one person argued, not that she expected them to. Everyone who came with her knew the risks. They came anyway.

Minx turned back to the prisoners, walked up to the poles they were attached to and used her sword to destroy the poles. She then cut their chains.

"There will be no more sacrifices. If threats come, get underground. Don't worry, I won't leave you defenseless." Minx looked around. "Everyone go inside the ruins. You can watch if you want to, but I need a clean canvas."

The locals looked at each other like an insane person was in their midst. They cautiously joined the others despite the level of fear in their hearts. They were not fed to the monster. What kind of catastrophe had this crazy fairy brought on them?

After surveying the area, a picture formed in her mind. It took her two hours of growing, but the landscape was fully transformed. The settlement was surrounded by oak trees, cacti, venus fly traps in the way only she could create and her favorite, weeping willows.

The weeping willows weren't the huge ones she used to create homes out of. These were the ones with shorter branches that didn't live as long. They were all injected with Qi as they grew. To finish the aesthetic, she added climbing rose vines, also sharpened with Qi.

When she was happy with her tapestry, she added one last finishing touch. She made every plant she grew sentient with one order. Protect the humans.

Those people who were with her on the Crow planet smiled. Everyone else stared as the plants moved around. The venus fly trap leaned into the bugs rather than wait for the tickle.

The oak moved its branches around, even clenched the smaller ones together as though it was going to punch someone. It grinned menacingly as if it was looking forward to the next beast arriving.

The willow stood there, patiently waiting like a sentry standing at its post while the climbing rose rubbed some thorns together discretely. The atmosphere they put off was a happy one but there was a menacing undertone which grew by the minute.

They were all given access to the memories of the other plants. They were looking forward to a bit of revenge.

Minx turned back to the others as she heard Midas whisper under his breath, "showoff," with a grin brightening his face.

She stifled her own grin. Shalt, Aqua and Duff all acted like it was another Tuesday even though this was the most impressive group of sentient plants they had ever seen her create.

Valone and the two prisoners hit the ground on their knees thinking a god was in their midst. Valone had a look of wonder on his face while the prisoners trembled in terror.

Botha could do strange things, but they doubted even he could create plants that moved on their own. They each made a silent vow never to return to the surface if they survived this day.

Minx' gaze turned to Valone, "do you have other exits from your shelter?"

He looked stunned, "uhhh no…."

She looked at Yenthar, "do we have any earth fairies that can rectify that?"

"I believe we have a couple that could do something. Do you want me to fly back and ask the king?"

She nodded while chewing her lip. "Please hurry back so we can get to the next place."

"Yes, Your Highness," he called down from the height he had gained in the sky, and he flew as fast as he could.

He was surprised how amenable the king was to his children. He hadn't known them long, yet he was allowing them to have so much free rein. If anyone else was out there killing beasts he'd be alarmed. With it being his children, he seemed different, relieved.

The king assigned two fairies to create tunnels before Yenthar was a quarter of the way on his return journey. They were on the way 30 minutes later.

By the time Yenthar returned, Minx was laying on Caser's back. She was exhausted from all the energy she had used to grow all those sentient plants. She had never done something so intense but to say she wasn't proud of how far she had come would be an understatement.

As everyone by Midas and Jaykon took up their seats on the maccavities, Shalt simply lifted her head and laid it on his leg while Caser wrapped his tentacles around her so she could rest.

However, rest wasn't in the cards.

While Minx allowed her energy to replenish, the plants continued their story of what happened.

The cities that had sewers had the greatest survival rates but the trees were unable to display what those numbers looked like. At first, a few would scout the surface to find food, but they were often attacked. Many more died.

Eventually, the vegetation in that area was destroyed by the trampling of the beasts. The trees were no longer able to see what was going on in the cities which hindered the fairy's ability to monitor the situation.

The outskirts, the suburbs were next to be targeted but the beasts weren't as successful. A lot of humans had run for the less populated areas, and the Fairies were doing everything they could to protect them. That was when the war started fully.

The fairies were plentiful, they blocked out the sun. They level of power they displayed was massive. At first, they did well. Their power was able to take down the monsters. The problem was they kept getting stronger and stronger. Eventually, the beasts overpowered the fairies.

The humans were never strong enough to fight. They cowered in their underground strongholds. They watched as even pregnant fairies perished to the enemy. Then she saw it. The day their mother was attacked.
