"Let what's buried inside you out,
Let us know what's life about.
Have your rest complete,
We shall go to our class on this beat.
Huge hall, big room,
Let me fly you away,
On a magic broom"
After getting both Marv and Kazuto to sanatorium, Parmiss and Shinigami attended their First class of the day.
The huge classroom was filled with students, sunlight pouring in from every side.
The scent of burnt incense mixed with chalk dust filled the air — oddly calming, but sharp enough to sting the nose.
"Welcome to your first lesson..." A tall male elf in formal white cloak, walking in a sharp manner entered the class. "Students."
His voice was too serious. Even though it appears that this is his usual way of speaking.
"I am Professor Armin Greadrock." The man introduced himself with a polite but serious manner.
"I am here to teach you─" He paused for a moment to process something in his head, "The skills of Forensic Thaumaturgy. My subject."
"I wonder why it might be useful..." Parmiss muttered to herself.
"Some of you might be wondering why this subject might be useful." Professor said with a face so cold, it screams "I don't care what you think."
Parmiss's eyes widened, "Can this guy read minds—or does he have bat ears?" She whispered to herself and the turned to glance at Shinigami, who was sitting beside her.
Shinigami appeared to be daydreaming.
"Shinigami! Hey Shinigami!" She whispered in a low voice.
Shinigami finally returned to reality.
"I was just wondering if the afterlife is better than this lecture." She said calmly.
Parmiss reflected back to herself, sweat dripped from her face as she said in her head, "No wonder..."
"The technique I am proceeding to teach you is called "Ruh-Neshan." As the teacher continued.
There was a strange powder on his table and a perfume bottle filled with some sort of strange liquid.
"Would you all do me a favor and Write something on a paper?" The teacher asked them calmly to complete a task.
The students fell in confusion for a moment but then one by one started to write on their notebook pages.
As everyone had finished writing random things on their notebook page, Professor Greadrock extended his hand, and all the pages tore from the notebooks and came flying towards him.
The papers stood in the air where he was standing as he was walking between them
"Hmm... Let's see what we have here," He took a random page from the flock of papers.
He took that paper back to his table, "Now I will tell you all, who's paper it is and what's written on it for confirmation."
As he took the strange portion on his desk and sprayed it on the paper. Then he slowly sprinkled the strange powder from his table on to it.
"Ruh-Neshan." As he slowly lifted the paper and then gazed towards Eurika.
As he was about to read what was written on it out loud, sweat started to drip from his face.
"Ahhh..." His face started to go dark, the class silent. The room got silent.
"Professor...?" The students whispered.
His face got pale blue, eyes darker than the night.
Teacher's hand shuck, as he slowly picked up the chalk and threw it in a speed that broke the sound barrier, towards where Eurika was sitting.
Blam!
The chalk buried inside the thick wooden barrier between her and the person she was sitting with.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF MY CLASS!!!" The teacher screamed like he had just seen the end of the world.
All the student's eyes widened at the sudden turn of events.
Eurika got overwhelmed by the teacher and started to pack her bag to leave.
She had a cold expression on her face, not that of someone feeling guilty but something that appeared to be a plot of something big.
""I am feeling sick too..." The teacher's condition started to worsen by every passing second.
"You stay! I will leave." As the teacher shaken by what he had read, started to pack up his own goods.
"Your homework is to make this "Makeh Potion" and "Siena Powder" that I used here today, recipe is on your books page 16 and 17"
The teacher packed his things and left in a hurry — as if staying any longer might make him throw up.
The silence made his footsteps echo across the stadium-style seats of the classroom.
"Ah... have a good day, Professor..." Cora awkwardly said as the teacher left.
The silent broke right after he had left and all the students started to talk to each other sharing theories of what just happened.
Parmiss quietly gazed towards Eurika.
Eurika hid a small smirk that felt suspicious. She quickly masked her expression when the girl beside her asked about it, but Eurika didn't answer.
"I wonder what she wrote..." Parmiss whispered putting her hand on her chin.
She slowly turned her gaze towards Shinigami, "What did you write, Shinigami?" She asked.
"I wrote 100 ways I can kill Marv with." Shinigami replied like it was a child talk.
"What more could I have expected from you..." Parmiss whispered to herself.
"What? I like to annoy him." Shinigami fought back.
Lectures passed slowly. The second lecture was by a lady "Miss Millisa Komiko" that taught us "Soul Resonance and awareness", Third of a goblin "Ell Gollem" that taught us "Pression of mystic arts", Fourth another lady "Esabell Ramila" that taught us "Deceptive Energies and Projection".
The hours stretched on. Lecture after lecture blurred into faint words and chalk dust, until the sun outside turned gold.
Finally came the last lesson of the day.
Professor Ainsworth entered the class, the wind spreading a gentle but uncomfortable breeze.
"There he comes," Shinigami whispered.
Ainsworth was perfectly calm — no trace of what had happened last night.
He appeared more like a machine. That cartoonish tone of his hid something underneath it.
He adjusts his tie and starts the lecture as if the world never trembled.
"Alright, everyone. Page thirty-two. We're discussing the Laws of Magical Equilibrium." He said, lifting his index finger up, adjusting his glasses.
"Is he just pretending?" Parmiss whispered.
"Nothing is sure, with him." Shinigami replied.
Then, from the back row—
Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.
Ainsworth's hand on the book tightened, as he slowly without even gazing up from his book said, "Cornelius."
A boy on the row just front of Parmiss froze, his cheeks full.
"For the last time, stop eating in my class! If you keep stuffing your mouth like that, you'll need a diet instead of detention!" Ainsworth said in a sharp manner, not anger or any discomfort, just the eyes of a ghost.
And then he added, "If you spent half as much effort studying as you do chewing, you'd be top of the class. Diet. Now. And close that bag."
The class laughs. Parmiss smiles awkwardly.
Cornelius blushes and hides his chips.
"Poor guy..." Shinigami said feeling an awe for him.
Ainsworth continued to teach the rest of the lesson with no hint of last night, the light started to dim, the clouds spreading slowly on the sky and thus the lesson ended after a long morning to afternoon.
Class dismissed and everyone got the day to themselves at Maskveil academy.
The long corridors gave a gentle atmosphere as everyone went to what they want to do for the day. Play in the ground, eat at cafeteria, go to the dormitories, practice spells and much more.
"So where are you going now, Parmiss?" Shinigami asked as Parmiss was leaving for somewhere.
"I was thinking about reading some books in the library to better understand this world. And you?" Parmiss replied with a gentle smile.
"I was thinking of going with you, but I suppose I'll go check on my victims instead." Shinigami replied with a smile.
"Marv and Kazuto? Sure..." Parmiss said as she started to walk, "Take care then. See you, Shinigami."
"See you, Parmiss.' Shinigami waved her hand and went on the other direction to the sanatorium.
...
Library was filled with all kinds of books. It was built with elements of Victorian as well as Persian aesthetics.
It was huge, with a never-ending number of books. The huge glass windows filled it with light from all around. For one it might take days to only explore the library.
The sweet smell of centuries worth of papers filled the atmosphere.
Parmiss calmly walked towards the reception, the lady there appeared to be a shy person.
"Excuse me..." Parmiss waved her hand and stood by the counter.
"Ah... Greetings..." The shy girl appeared to be close to Parmiss's age.
Parmiss gaze dropped towards the counter where her name was written.
"Era Cinderfell..." Parmiss whispered her name, The shy girl blushed.
"What kind of books might you be looking for?" She asked with an innocent glance. Her glasses covering her shy eyes.
"Hmm... Are there some books related to this world?" Parmiss asked, she was gentle, but her tone sounds sharp like a needle.
"Oh, there are so many books on that, "Creatures of Dreams", "The moonlit city of Saria", "Maskveil and it's known history" and much more." The girl's shyness turned into intellect on the name of books.
"Would you like me to recommend some starter books for you?" She asked excited.
"No thanks…" Parmiss said, unintentionally crushing the girl's rising excitement.
"Where might I look for these books?" She then asked.
The girl crushed by her colder than a fridge personality got herself together and then lifted up her wand and whispered something that was unable to be heard.
All the rows started to be realigning themselves and then in front came the long row of Parmiss's interests.
"No one really comes here much, so make yourself comfortable." Era pointed towards the rows and then sat down at her chair.
"Thank you..." Parmiss replied and walked towards the huge row of books.
When she was checking books, a particular book took her attention.
"Summoning of Mythical creatures... Hmm, sounds interesting" As curiosity hit her, she slowly pulled out the book and then started to check the topics."
"Tero tail, Humber crawler, Surfarick Glocker..." As she read through the names, she paused, shivers went up her spine.
"...Void Stopper" Her eyes widened. The words clung to her mind like ash. She didn't know why—but something in her chest tightened.
She quickly carried the book to the table in the huge empty library and started to read about it.
"Void Stopper. A creature that pulls people in a world of illusions and make them counter hallucinations of a traumatic world while feeding on their fears." she slowly read through the topic till her gaze fell on "How to summon it" At the bottom of the page.
As she read it, her hands started to shake and sweat dropped slowly down from her face like pearls.
She stood up and asked the receptionist "Could I borrow this book for some time?"
The receptionist got confused as it's been a while since someone came here and asked to borrow a book.
"Sure, you can, just don't damage it..." She replied sweetly.
"Thank you." Parmiss sprinted out of the library carrying the book.
