Chapter 117 - Chapter 117: I Can Sell My Teammates Too!

The Frustration of Fighting the Immortal

The Hellish creature's strength was formidable, but it was still no match for Luke in Strong Attack Mode. Luke had the upper hand in power, speed, and defense.

In the beginning, the two fought evenly, but as Luke grew familiar with the armor's performance, the tide turned into a one-sided beatdown.

The iron fists, wrapped in blue light, were heavy and powerful. Every punch shattered the demon's scales, leaving behind a bloody, concave dent, with the added double damage of electrical energy seeping into the flesh.

After several minutes of continuous pounding, Luke had to stop, panting, his face grim as he stared ahead.

The Hellish creature, practically beaten to a pulp, had once again recovered to its original state. Just as it had done before, this thing seemed to possess an immortal body; no matter how badly it was damaged, it would always return to normal.

"Ava."

"I have analyzed its genetic information. No anomalies were found."

"Damn it!"

Luke cursed. He dodged the demon's sharp claws, slammed it to the ground with a counter-move, and concentrated a brilliant blue light in his palm.

BOOM!

An energy blast disintegrated the demon's head. Flesh mixed with thick, brownish goo splattered everywhere, then swiftly merged together and restored the head to its original form.

"You mother—!"

Luke swore out loud in frustration. He grabbed the demon's tail, spun it around, and hurled it into the distant storage room.

CRASH!

The storage room collapsed, burying the demon underneath. The next second, Kaptun burst out of the debris, roaring with laughter, seemingly mocking Luke's inability to defeat him.

So what if you can beat me? Can you kill me?

The great Lord of Hell stands behind me. Under his protection, no one can kill the devout Kaptun!

I am invincible!

Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!

"Young Master, I recommend a tactical retreat."

Luke was silent for a few seconds, then slowly shook his head.

"I have a basic understanding of magic. Creatures crawling out of Hell usually have immense strength and control over fire, but they are not immortal. Simple physical attacks can kill them. As for this one..."

He paused, then realizing something, he quickly asked,

"Where is Constantine? Where is that bastard?"

"John Constantine left the small forest a few minutes ago. He is currently located in a wooden hut one mile to the northwest."

"Damn it! I knew it. Nothing good ever happens when you run into that guy."

Luke considered himself no saint, but he wouldn't sell out a teammate like Constantine. And to not only sell him out but also hide nearby to profit from the situation?

"You are truly one of a kind!"

Luke sneered. He quickly rushed up to the demon, grabbed its single horn, leaped into the air, and flew rapidly toward the northwest.

"You want to run, you miserable cheat? I'll drop this thing right on top of you. Let's see you run now!"

Karma for the Con-Man

The one-mile distance was covered instantly. The moment Luke saw Constantine, he showed no mercy, directly dropping the struggling Higher Demon onto him.

The small wooden hut was instantly crushed into splinters by the demon's massive body.

Constantine barely managed to dodge. His trench coat was ripped open by a large tear. Seeing the demon, he shrieked and bolted.

Kaptun couldn't possibly let a savory meal so close to him escape. It excitedly pounced.

Constantine, don't run! You should embrace Kaptun! If I eat you, the great Kaptun will evolve again, gaining even stronger abilities! Then I can tear that human metal suit to shreds and properly vent my anger!

Thinking of this glorious future, Kaptun became even more agitated, using his hands and tail wildly to attack.

Constantine was no match for the Higher Demon, yet the man's luck was bizarrely high. He consistently managed to dodge the attacks at the last second, looking utterly miserable but suffering no substantial harm.

The two darted back and forth, turning the forest into a lively battleground.

Luke sat on a rock and watched the show. When things got intense, he'd clap enthusiastically. Indeed, teammates should be sold out. For someone like Constantine, it would be rude not to sell him out.

"Come on, Hellblazer! Kill it! I'm rooting for you!"

Constantine gritted his teeth in fury. He's the one who always sells his teammates. He couldn't believe he'd stepped in dog-shit today and been sold out by his own "ally."

Damn it! Aren't superheroes supposed to be kind, righteous, brave, fearless champions who fight evil until the end? Why is this guy acting like this? Is that black armor freak also the scum of all scumbags, just like me?!

His mind raced with wild thoughts, but the reality grew increasingly perilous.

Kaptun, unable to land a hit, began to show signs of going berserk. Its eye turned crimson, and plumes of Hellfire erupted from its body. The flames spread, igniting the surrounding grass and trees.

As a Hell creature, Kaptun was fireproof. Constantine, however, was not. Seeing the air temperature rising sharply, he quickly gripped the crucifix on his chest, muttered an incantation, and a cross-shaped blade of light shot out of nowhere, slicing into the demon.

SPLAT!

Blood spurted out. A giant cross-shaped wound—one horizontal, one vertical—appeared starkly on the demon's scaly chest.

Kaptun screamed in agony, clutching its chest and rolling on the ground. The blast of light had clearly inflicted unimaginable damage.

"That's magic!"

Luke's eyes lit up. He observed closely. "Judging by the depth of the wound, the Light Cross Blade isn't overwhelmingly powerful, but it seems to have a strong restraining effect on the demon."

Constantine's face was chalk-white after unleashing that attack. Seeing the wounds on the demon's chest begin to heal, he muttered a curse and ran toward Luke's location.

"Friend! Help me out! This bloke is too tough! Fight him together, and I'll split the reward with you—one-third for you!"

Luke curled his lips, his expression amused.

"Do I look like I'm short on cash?"

Constantine: "..."

There are people in this day and age who aren't short on cash?!

He internally grumbled while calculating the time. The summoning array's time limit was twenty minutes. It had been about seventeen or eighteen minutes since the start. That means if he could just survive for another three minutes, the cursed Higher Demon would be dragged back to Hell.

Just three minutes. I can hold on... wait, the hell I can!

Constantine pleaded pitifully,

"Hero! Good man! Help me! My magic power is low, and I need time to recover! Just stall for three minutes, and I can send him back to Hell! When that happens, I'll give you all the reward I get!"

Luke laughed coldly, watching him like a jester. When the demon charged, he offered a helpful reminder,

"Careful, that thing is coming for you again."

Constantine stamped his foot in anger, cursing Luke ten thousand times in his heart, but he could only scramble desperately back toward the pile of rubble.

Kaptun followed close behind, cautiously glancing at Luke as he passed. Seeing that Luke remained seated and had no intention of moving, it laughed triumphantly.

Damn Constantine! No one can save you this time!
