Chapter 213: Angry Birds
Confrontation with the Corpse Snake
The enormous snake head slowly rose, looming against the sky like an ancient, ferocious beast.
Its body was massive; the portion visible above the water was over twenty meters long. Its body was scarred and pockmarked with large and small wounds; in some places, white bones were visible. Its left eye was gone, leaving only the right one, which was pitch black as if stained with thick ink.
This was clearly a Corpse Snake created using necromancy.
Zatanna swallowed hard and muttered,
"Don't tell me that is the helper you were looking for."
Luke was also startled. This thing was too big. Its head was thicker than a water barrel, its body was tens of meters long, and it was an undead creature that felt no pain. If they had to fight it, it would be extremely tricky.
Stan Darloff said gravely,
"If there's no necessity, it's better to retreat."
Luke shook his head. "It has to die. Only by eliminating it can we proceed with the next step of the plan."
Maeve said with displeasure, "Easy to say. How do we kill something that large and undead?"
Luke didn't answer. He pulled out his pistol, aimed at the snake's abdomen,
Bang!
A flare stuck to the giant snake's body.
"The spot flashing red is the weakness. Focus your attack on that area. The goal is to blow it open."
No sooner had he spoken than the giant snake roared. Its massive body churned up a deluge of mud and water, rushing toward the group with a terrifying howl. Its sheer size created colossal waves, nearly splitting the swamp lake in two.
Everyone scrambled to either side.
Boom!
The giant snake slammed into the ground, kicking up a huge cloud of dust.
Stan Darloff clapped his hands together. Invisible telekinetic force shaped into a fist slammed into the giant snake's neck vertebrae. August raised his staff, the tip glowing brightly. A blast of Exorcism Spell hit the snake's head. Light magic was the natural bane of undead creatures, and a single strike blew apart a large section of decaying flesh.
The giant snake howled in pain. It glared at them, its body writhing, smashing countless plants and rushing toward them like a speeding train.
August cursed his bad luck and turned to run. Just as he took a few steps, an explosion sounded behind him.
Adam threw a handful of grenades forward. A dozen grenades scattered near the snake's body, the explosions relentless. The giant snake roared, abandoning August and turning its head to charge at Adam.
Its thick tail swept through a puddle, splashing up a torrent of wastewater. The water froze in mid-air and merged with the water on the ground, forming a six-meter-long water spear.
Emily spread her left hand, and cold energy surged from her palm. The water spear quickly froze, turning into an ice spear.
"Go!"
The ice spear shot out like an arrow, hitting the giant snake's abdomen where the red light flashed. The immense force actually knocked it back.
Luke's eyes lit up.
"You've gotten stronger."
Emily rolled her eyes. "Unlike you, who just runs around all day, I've been training very hard."
With a flick of her hand, the ice spear detached from the snake's body. She was about to strike again, but the snake's tail swung horizontally and shattered the spear. The giant snake spun around, its gaze fixed on Luke's position.
After a few skirmishes, the group realized that while the giant snake was powerful, it lacked intelligence and acted purely on instinct. It might be effective against regular soldiers, but unfortunately, it was facing super-humans.
Roy, who had been cultivating plants, crawled out of his pit and shouted, waving at them,
"Someone lure it over here! I can trap it."
"I'll do it!"
Zatanna stepped forward, quickly chanting an incantation. She pointed, and a shower of feathers fell from the sky. The light-encased feathers seemed to possess a mystical power, landing on the giant snake like drops of water on boiling oil.
Bang!
The snake's body cracked open with numerous wounds.
Zatanna shouted. The feathers flew toward the snake's body, causing a sizzling sound as decaying flesh rained down like water.
The giant snake wailed, rushing toward Zatanna at full speed like a furious beast. The distance of several hundred meters was covered in the blink of an eye. Seeing the danger, Stan Darloff quickly deployed a telekinetic wall to slow its movement.
Zatanna and Roy fled into the forest. The giant snake relentlessly pursued them. As it crossed a patch of grass, the ground suddenly gave way. Dozens of spiky wooden vines burst from the soil, wrapping around the snake's body like ropes. The thorns dug into its muscle, tightly binding it and trapping it in place.
Roy shouted, "Hurry! This thing is too big. I can only hold it for ten seconds!"
Stan Darloff and Maeve exchanged a look. Maeve clenched her fists, her body temperature spiking rapidly. Her skin and hair turned fiery red. Emily raised her right hand, and a column of fire enveloped Maeve's body, continuously increasing her heat.
Terrifying high heat accumulated inside her body, like a fire barrel filled with explosives.
Stan Darloff grabbed Maeve's body with his telekinesis and hurled her with all his strength toward the giant snake's red-flashing abdomen.
The red figure streaked through the air.
BOOM!
An ear-splitting roar came from the distance. Flames shot into the sky. The surrounding weeds and wooden vines instantly turned to ash. The giant snake, at the center of the explosion, screamed and flew backward. A massive gap appeared in its abdomen, and bones were visibly shattered.
A faint smell of burnt flesh filled the air, sickening the group.
"We did it!"
Zatanna couldn't help but cheer, but her voice cut off when she saw the giant snake struggling to crawl back up. She had almost forgotten: the giant snake was an undead creature; even if its body was blown apart, it wouldn't die.
Stan Darloff looked at Luke in frustration. "Didn't you say its weakness was the abdomen?"
Luke didn't have time to answer. He adjusted his sunglasses. A dozen hummingbird drones flew in from the forest, shooting straight toward the giant snake. They exploded before they even reached it. Each explosion produced a powerful sonic blast. The sound waves overlapped, forming a high-frequency oscillating field. The giant snake opened its mouth, completely unable to move. Its muscles and bones trembled violently. Its eyeballs swelled and contracted until, with a pop, they exploded.
Simultaneously, Adam leaped down from a tree, rushing toward the snake's abdomen. He reached into the wound filled with decaying flesh, pulled something out, and then bolted into the forest without looking back.
The sonic attack lasted for a few dozen seconds before slowly disappearing.
The giant snake lay limp on the ground. All the muscle tissue above its spine was gone, leaving only fractured white bone.
Everyone gasped, utterly astonished.
Roy asked in disbelief, "What kind of weapon was that?"
August swallowed hard. "Angry Birds!"
"I know it was a bird! I'm asking about the weapon it carried!"
"A sonic weapon."
"Have you ever seen a sonic weapon that powerful?"
"I have not."
"What about you?"
Roy looked at Stan Darloff, who subconsciously shook his head. No wonder Nelson had been so humble and subservient—this guy was too terrifying.
If one drone could unleash that much destruction, what would happen if hundreds of them descended together?
The thought sent a shiver down Stan Darloff's spine. His gaze toward Luke was filled with wary suspicion.
Emily nudged Luke, unable to hide her curiosity.
"How did you do that?"
Luke pointed to his head. "Mind-based technology."
