Chapter 299: The Origin of the Silver Banshee!
A Monster in the Mirror
Having come from a prominent family, Siobhan had met all kinds of people since childhood, but none were as rebellious and unpredictable as the girl beside her.
Even more headache-inducing was Linda's terrifying, unimaginable power.
After destroying the television, Linda lost her appetite. She crossed her arms, staring coldly at the screen that was now sparking, radiating a chilling "do not approach" aura.
Siobhan hesitated. "Do you have a grudge against the TV? Or the person on the TV?"
"Eat your food!"
Siobhan's eyes darted around. "Was it Luke Shaw?"
Linda turned her head, her eyes flashing with a palpable murderous intent.
Siobhan quickly threw up her hands.
"I promise I won't mention that person's name again."
Linda scoffed, picked up the pizza, and resumed eating.
Siobhan let out a sigh of relief. This girl was both rebellious and vicious, even scarier than herself.
The Cursed Quest
After lunch, Siobhan went to the bathroom to shower. She was not surprised to see a man and a woman tied up and huddled, trembling, in a corner. She had noticed earlier that the photos in the bedroom were not of Linda but of a young couple. The house had clearly been forcibly "requisitioned" by Linda through "vigorous" means.
Siobhan, in her Banshee form, was not a good person and was in no mood to waste time saving strangers. After knocking the couple unconscious, she stripped off her clothes and began to wash.
After a night of rest, the wounds on her body had already healed, leaving only faint marks.
This was the healing ability provided by the Banshee curse.
The water flowed down her skin. Were it not for her pale, demon-like complexion, the body beneath would undoubtedly be extremely alluring. Unfortunately...
Bang!
Siobhan punched and shattered the mirror. She hated mirrors, and even more, she hated the skull-like face staring back from the glass. She was Siobhan McDougal, the heiress of the McDougal family, not some monster.
"I must find the artifact and break this curse, no matter what."
Siobhan clenched her fist, quietly repeating the words she had spoken countless times.
After showering, Siobhan returned to the living room and spoke to the girl staring blankly at the sofa.
"We're getting to know each other, but I still don't know your name."
"Linda."
"Last name?"
"Danvers."
Siobhan introduced herself warmly. "Hello, I'm Siobhan McDougal, from England. I'm human, not a monster."
Linda asked curiously, "Are you a metahuman?"
"No, I don't have superpowers. In fact, a few months ago, I was still just human, a 24-year-old human girl. The reason I look like this is a curse. To return to my normal self, I must find one item."
"What item?"
Siobhan was silent for a moment, then decided to tell the truth. "I only know it's an ancient book. I don't know exactly what it looks like, but the magic tells me I can find the book in Metropolis, so here I am."
Linda asked with interest, "You use magic?"
Siobhan nodded. "My family is a magical lineage. We have the bloodline of witches and a tradition of practicing magic for generations."
Linda looked enlightened. Siobhan was the second magic user she had encountered; the first was Zatanna Zatara. Thinking of Zatanna made her think of Luke Shaw, and her expression immediately darkened.
Siobhan observed the shift in her mood. After a moment of thought, she spoke softly,
"I don't know if you're busy lately. If not, I'd like to ask for your help in finding the ancient book. Of course, I won't ask you to work for free. You can name your price. Whether it's money or anything else, I'll try my best to satisfy your request."
Linda looked displeased. "Breaking your curse is your problem. Why should you ask me?"
Siobhan sighed. "In my current state, not only public places but even private cars refuse to take me. Do you know how I traveled from England to Metropolis?"
Without waiting for a response, she continued,
"I swam. I crossed the Atlantic, swimming for five days and five nights until I reached a Mexican port. Then I traveled north from Mexico for several days to reach Metropolis."
She spoke calmly, but Linda could feel the immense difficulty of the feat. Surviving alone in the boundless ocean required not only courage but also immense willpower.
After a few moments of hesitation, Linda nodded slightly.
"I can help you, but you have to promise me one thing."
"What is it?"
"Be my sparring partner."
"Sparring partner?"
Siobhan was confused. "You mean you want me to fight you?"
"Yes."
Linda nodded. "My master said I lack real-world combat experience, but with my power, it's hard to find someone to train with. You're barely adequate, but you'll have to do."
Siobhan: "..."
She suddenly regretted her decision. It felt like a very foolish choice.
An Unexpected Connection
After the two reached an agreement, they began their aimless wandering. Siobhan had a premonition that she would find the book in Metropolis, but she had no clue how to start looking or where to search.
Metropolis has a population of nearly ten million and a total area of 900 square kilometers.
Trying to find a single book in such a huge city was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
After searching for a few days with no leads, Linda had no choice but to use the hacking skills she learned from Luke to break into major trading platforms and search for all information related to ancient books.
After a thorough investigation, there were still no clues.
Siobhan was visibly disappointed. Linda, however, was indifferent. She had tried her best, and if they couldn't find it, it was just bad luck.
One day, the two were disguised and wandering through the city as usual. As they passed a bridge over the river, the Tesla factory nearby was holding a grand opening ceremony.
Linda's keen eyes immediately spotted Luke Shaw on the center stage.
Siobhan also noticed him. While observing Linda's expression, she casually said,
"Should I teach him a lesson for you?"
"My business is none of yours."
Linda snorted coldly and turned to leave.
A look of curiosity flashed in Siobhan's eyes. After several days together, she had noticed many small details, such as Linda secretly opening her computer when no one was around to search for the latest news about Tesla—or rather, the owner of Tesla: Luke Shaw!
The business prodigy from Coast City, the rumored son of the underworld, the genius scientist who invented the exoskeleton armor, the energy crystal chip, and balancing technology.
This young man was the hottest news topic recently. All media outlets were reporting news related to him. Some enthusiasts had even compared him to the Thomas Edison of the 21st century.
His wealth was also growing daily. According to the latest reports, ShowMe had signed an $800 million share transfer agreement with Wayne Enterprises and LuthorCorp, raising his net worth to an astonishing $4 billion overnight, combined with Tesla and Bluebird.
Having such immense wealth at the age of seventeen was simply unheard of.
Time Magazine had even listed him as the Person of the Year, the absolute embodiment of the American Dream.
The fact that such a future star knew Linda, and judging by her behavior, had some deep connection to her, made Siobhan seriously question the nature of their relationship.
Family? Unlikely.
Lovers? Or a mistress/other woman? Also unlikely.
Linda was not the type to tolerate betrayal or take abuse. If anyone ever cheated on her, she would surely break that leg.
Besides, Linda's body was so incredibly tough, and Luke Shaw was just an ordinary person. How could two objects of such different hardness have intimate relations?
