Chapter 301 - Chapter 301: The Meteorite Crash!

Chapter 301: The Meteorite Crash!

A Tense Conversation

Seeing that Luke was only flipping through the magazine and not making any other moves, Siobhan gradually lowered her guard and asked curiously,

"How much of what the magazine says about you is true?"

Luke didn't look up, replying, "Thirty percent."

"So you really do have a Triad background? You're the grandson of the former Hongmen boss, Changlin Shaw? And your mother..."

Luke abruptly looked up.

"Miss McDougal, we are not close enough to discuss my family."

Siobhan was startled, then apologized. "My apologies, I was speaking out of turn."

"The coffee is cold. I'll get you a fresh cup."

Siobhan picked up the coffee and quickly walked into the kitchen. Time Magazine's description of Luke Shaw's personality was that he was easygoing and calm, but also had a ruthless and cold-blooded side, being notorious in the underground world of Coast City. She had thought these descriptions were mere hype, but judging by that look just now, that wasn't the case. He was a very unique individual and might even possess superpowers!

Just then, the front door opened. Linda walked in, carrying a huge pile of groceries. Upon seeing Luke on the sofa, she didn't say a word, turned around, and went straight into the bedroom.

Bang!

The bedroom door slammed shut, rattling the handle violently.

Luke put down the magazine, walked to the bedroom door, and knocked.

"Linda, open the door. I need to talk to you."

"I don't want to see you. Get lost."

"Come on, open the door, please!"

"I said, get lost!"

"Fine. If you don't want to see me, then I'll leave."

Saying this, Luke turned to walk away. When he reached the main door, he paused and said, "By the way, I received news that someone from your hometown is here."

The bedroom door was instantly kicked open. The Kryptonian girl, her face etched with panic, rushed out. "What do you mean? Has Dru-Zod followed me here?"

"Of course not."

Luke shrugged. "How else would I get you to open the door?"

"You..."

The girl burst into an angry tirade. "You bastard! You liar! You lied to me again..."

"Alright, alright. I sincerely apologize. I was wrong. It's all my fault."

Luke pointed outside. "It's snowing. How about we go for a walk?"

Linda glared at him fiercely, then vanished like a storm.

Luke shook his head helplessly, put on his coat, and followed her out.

Siobhan stared at the shattered bedroom door with a strange expression. At this moment, she seemed to understand something.

The Park and the Fangirls

The environment in Metropolis was never great—lots of people, lots of cars, and excessive exhaust emissions, causing the city's temperature to be higher than elsewhere. Like a stifling steamer, even heavy snow tended to melt away quickly.

Linda was not a delicate girl. Once they reached the park, she immediately asked,

"Talk. What do you want?"

"To take you home for Christmas."

"That's your home, not mine."

"You should ask the Old Man and your Master that. They've never treated you as an outsider."

Linda fell silent. Her Master and the Old Man were two of the few people she cared about on Earth. The days she lived with the Shaw family were among her few precious memories. And Aunt Zhou's dumplings were really delicious.

Thinking of these things, the girl's tone softened.

"Did they send you?"

"The Old Man told me that if I didn't bring you home this Christmas, he'd break my leg. And your Master harasses me constantly, asking why your phone is unreachable and if something happened to you."

Luke spread his hands, looking somewhat depressed. "I don't understand. I'm the one who's known them longer, so why are you the favorite?"

Linda curled her lip and said bluntly,

"What kind of elder would like a lying sack of garbage like you?"

"So, you agree to come back?"

"Of course, I'm going back, but not with you. We have no relationship."

"Fine. Whatever you say."

Luke rubbed his temples, leaning back on a bench and stretching with a long sigh.

It was the Christmas holiday, and even with the snow falling, the park was quite crowded. A few girls recognized Luke Shaw, squealing and running over, asking for photos and autographs.

Luke reluctantly agreed. After the photos, the girls were reluctant to leave and invited him to the ice rink, with all sorts of flirtatious little movements as they pulled on his arm.

Luke, who had been in many "battlefields," could easily see through their intentions. He politely but firmly declined, then left with Linda.

"My, you are popular with girls! Ha!"

Linda lifted the corner of her mouth, her sarcasm evident. "The young, handsome Prince of the Underworld, Time Magazine Person of the Year, a multi-billionaire tycoon. Ha!"

"You're like a chocolate made of feces. No wonder those flies swarm you. They all want a taste of the excrement."

Luke: "..."

How could she say such a thing? So venomous!

Linda persisted. "Do you regret coming out with me now? Otherwise, you could be flirting with those girls and heading to a hotel for an orgy. It's not like it would be the first time you've done that."

Luke sighed. "Is that really how low you think of me?"

The girl scoffed. "Does a person who's slept with dozens of different women at the age of seventeen have the right to talk about being noble?"

Luke: "..."

"Speak up! Why are you quiet? Can't refute it, or did I hit a sore spot, leaving you speechless?"

Purple Stone on the Beach

Just then, a black BMW pulled up by the roadside. The door opened, and a nervous Billy hurried over. After he whispered something, Luke's face immediately turned serious.

"There's an urgent matter at the company. I have to go back. If you want to come with me, call me. If not, deal with it yourself."

He rushed into the BMW without looking back, looking for all the world like he was running away.

"Bastard, scumbag, liar! One girlfriend isn't enough, so he's looking for a second? He truly thinks he's king."

"That hateful guy! I really want to punch him."

Linda ground her teeth, getting angrier the more she thought about it. Her mood still hadn't improved when she got home.

Siobhan opened her laptop and pointed to a news headline.

"Something happened at Tesla."

"Don't talk to me about it! It's annoying!"

Siobhan clicked on the news. After reading the content, Linda's expression also grew serious.

"A meteorite?"

"Yes."

Siobhan nodded. "Just while you were out, an extraterrestrial meteorite crashed onto the beach not far from the Tesla factory. I hear quite a few people were injured."

For humans in the DC universe, a meteorite crash was not a rare event. A few space rocks fell to Earth every year.

However, a frequency like this year was unprecedented.

East of the Tesla factory, the formerly flat beach had been replaced by a crater. The crater wasn't large, only a few dozen meters in diameter, but the problem was the object in the middle:

A stone flashing with purple light, looking completely out of place against its surroundings.
