Chapter 644: The Underworld Dragon and the Blaze Spectre
The Revelation
"The Demon-Folk are an inherent anomaly, a forbidden product. This is the only way to solve the problem."
"Well, Miss Mohun, I've told you everything I can. Goodbye."
Luke stood up. As his right foot stepped forward and his left foot touched the ground, his body instantly vanished.
The warriors didn't sense how he disappeared at all.
"Such incredible speed, such a powerful soul."
Mohun quickly approached the tall Demon-Folk warrior. "Father, what are you doing here?"
The tall warrior snorted coldly.
"Your alertness is terrible! I followed you and left so many clues, yet you never noticed once."
Mohun hung her head in shame. Morn and Moyin were equally embarrassed; they truly hadn't noticed being followed.
"Enough of that. Who was that spirit? What is his background?"
"He's a Human."
"He's from Earth."
The Dragon Arrives
Upon returning to the heroes' temporary encampment, Adam had already retrieved the intelligence report. The information recorded was identical to what Mohun had described: the Valley of No Return was indeed located in the God-Demon Battlefield.
With the intelligence confirmed, the group immediately left. Time was of the essence; every second they stayed increased the danger. Their Human identity was too sensitive. Once the high-and-mighty beings of the Underworld reacted, things would become extremely difficult.
This was the Underworld, not Earth.
Shortly after the heroes departed, a dragon roar suddenly exploded above the Valley of the Dead. The dark clouds parted, and a colossal, four-winged dragon, large as a mountain, appeared in the sky.
Its presence alone caused its oppressive aura to sweep over the entire area.
Some of the weaker races instantly cowered on the ground, trembling uncontrollably, their eyes wide with fear.
It was the Underworld Dragon, Avogadro. His cruelty was infamous.
At that moment, an aura equally as powerful as Avogadro's surged up. From the deepest part of the Valley of the Dead, the Blaze Spectre, Klind, left his tomb, transforming into a stream of light that shot straight toward the heavens. Flames erupted from his body, blotting out the sun and creating two distinct worlds: his fire and the Dragon's darkness.
Avogadro stared intensely at him.
"It's been tens of thousands of years. Why aren't you dead yet?"
"I will never die. On the contrary, you, a mere little worm, dare to steal the power of Death? You are truly courting death."
Avogadro parted his jaws and let out a low growl.
"I hear jealousy in your voice. You wanted to become Death as well, but alas, your chance is gone."
Klind chuckled mockingly and shook his head. "You truly understand nothing. Death represents not only power but also constraint. Unfortunately, you have already taken the wrong path. Fate tells me you will die terribly. Your head will become someone else's collection piece, and your heart will become raw material."
"Little worm, run quickly. This is your last chance."
"Nonsense!"
Avogadro roared in fury, opening his mouth to unleash a blast of black light.
Black Death Ray! A power Avogadro acquired after devouring the power of Death. Any creature struck by the ray would instantly be reduced to bone, and its soul would dissipate.
Klind snorted coldly, morphing into over a dozen streaks of fire. He avoided the light blast and merged into the flames, which quickly condensed into a massive beast even larger than Avogadro.
A wave of heat surged toward the Dragon, seemingly setting the very air alight.
"Little worm, are you sure you want to fight me?"
Avogadro's eyes were fierce, his killing intent almost palpable, but he ultimately held back. Although this ancient being was not Death, he possessed comparable power. Even more troublesome was his ability.
Klind was a Spectre. While he might be weaker than other powerhouses of the same rank in a direct confrontation, no one could surpass him in escape and self-preservation. If he got away, Avogadro would face endless trouble.
Avogadro had no desire to have his lair constantly watched.
"Tell me the location of those four Humans, and I will leave."
"Humans?"
Klind feigned confusion. When did the Underworld get Humans? Wasn't the entrance to the Human World sealed?
"Are you certain they are Humans?"
"What do you think?"
Klind was half-skeptical and used his magic to search for the four.
He was a Spectre and a Sorcerer, a Spectre Sorcerer who had lived for over seventy thousand years. His mastery of magic was near the peak of the Underworld. In addition to common fire, soul, and dark magic, he practiced Divination, able to see the past and future and locate anyone he desired.
This was the reason the Valley of the Dead remained neutral: his ability was simply too useful.
A moment later, Klind stopped his magic.
"You are mistaken. There are not four Humans, only two, and one of them is in soul form."
"What are the other two?"
"I don't know, but their strength is formidable, quite unusual." At this, a flicker of surprise crossed Klind's eyes, as if he had seen something astonishing.
"Where are they?"
Klind opened his mouth and spat out a fireball. "Follow this orb. It will lead you to them."
Avogadro did not take the orb but became suspicious. He had to plead with the ancient sorcerer for help before, and it always required a high price for a result. This time, Klind agreed without asking for a single condition.
There's a catch! There had to be.
Avogadro's eyes flickered, looking cunning and vicious.
"What's wrong? You don't want it?"
"Are you afraid? Or uneasy?"
Klind smiled eerily, looking at the Dragon as if it were already a corpse. "I hear the mortal realm is the cradle of the Gods. Any Underworld creature who goes there will evolve, absorbing the vital energy of life and growing into a being that transcends all others."
"I no longer have that opportunity, so I can only pass it on to you."
"Good luck, little one."
With that, he dispersed his massive body, transforming into a stream of light and returning to the depths of the Valley of the Dead.
The sky was left with only Avogadro and the orb before him. The orb was called a Prophecy Bead, a spell created by Klind. Once the bead locked onto a creature, no one could escape its tracking.
By taking the bead, he could find the Humans, yet Avogadro couldn't feel happy. Klind's expression before leaving was too bizarre, making the Dragon uneasy.
However, the Underworld Dragon was a top-tier powerhouse, his mind resolute. He would not be swayed by others. He needed to find the Humans and use them to travel to the mortal realm, devour the essence of life, and become a supreme being that surpassed all others.
"The old sorcerer is just playing mind games and stalling for time," Avogadro snorted, collecting the bead. He spread his four wings, whipping up a gale, and sped off into the distance.
On the other side, in Mohun's cave, a burst of fire suddenly erupted. The four Demon-Folk were stunned. Seeing the figure, they quickly knelt on the ground.
"Klind, Ancient Lord of Flames, why have you come?"
Klind raised his hand, and Luke's figure materialized in the air.
"Have you seen him?"
Mohun dared not lie. "We just met. He asked about the Valley of No Return, and then he left."
"You told him."
"Yes."
Klind said nothing more. Sparks flew, and his body vanished.
After a long time, the four finally looked up, their expressions etched with deep fear. They realized they were in profound trouble.
