Chapter 54 - Demon Slaying a Demon

Enmu's flesh regeneration was also somewhat unusual.

In the original story, although Enmu became more powerful after receiving Muzan's blood and fusing with the Mugen Train, he would still suffer a certain amount of damage under Kyojuro Rengoku's fiery slashes and be unable to regenerate again in a short period of time.

But that was clearly not the case now.

Not long after Rengoku had cut down the fleshy tentacles, they regenerated and attacked the unconscious passengers again.

"Flame Breathing, First Form: Unknowing Fire!"

It was still that same technique.

Kyojuro Rengoku continued to move back and forth through the carriages at extreme speed, carrying flames, and severing all the fleshy tentacles.

When he returned to Tanjiro's side again, he spoke quickly and directly, "This train has eight cars in total. I will be responsible for the last five. Can I ask two of you to protect the remaining three cars and the customers inside, and the last person to find the demon's neck?"

"The demon? But..." Tanjiro was a little puzzled as to whether a demon attached to a train would have a neck.

"This flesh is all the work of a demon! If it's a demon, it must have a neck! Find it and cut it off! I will also search while I fight! You all must do your best too!" Kyojuro Rengoku said seriously.

The moment he finished speaking, Rengoku's figure vanished in an instant.

"So fast..." Tanjiro couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for the suddenly vanished Kyojuro Rengoku.

"So strong!" Inosuke was also a little shaken. "I wonder how he compares to that other strong guy?"

He couldn't help but start comparing Rengoku and Lexon.

'But as long as the great me defeats them, I'll be the strongest! Hahahahaha!'

The next moment, Inosuke couldn't help but get lost in his own wild thoughts again.

"Ahhh, why do we have to fight a demon as soon as we get on a train?! Ahhhhhh!" Zenitsu Agatsuma twisted his body as if he had turned into a figure from the painting "The Scream."

Immediately after, he grabbed Tanjiro's sleeve. "Hey, Tanjiro, I want to see Nezuko! What if I accidentally die?! I want to get a good look at Nezuko before I die!"

On every mission, Tanjiro and Nezuko were never separated, but Miss Shinobu had taken Nezuko and had not yet returned, so Tanjiro could only go on this mission alone.

Zenitsu, on the other hand, was having "I'm going to die without seeing Nezuko" withdrawal symptoms.

"Zenitsu! Don't say that!" Tanjiro said earnestly. "You heard what Mr. Rengoku said just now. Zenitsu, Inosuke, you two protect these first three cars and the unconscious passengers inside. I'll go find the demon's location."

After assigning the tasks, Tanjiro directly drew his Nichirin Sword, cut open the flesh above, and before the flesh could heal, he jumped onto the roof of the train.

The outside of the train was completely free of the flesh covering, making the search much easier.

Tanjiro stood firm, his nose twitching, using his keen sense of smell to find the demon's location.

'Where... is the demon's scent...'

'No... the wind is too strong, and the whole train is filled with the demon's scent.'

For a moment, he felt that this was going to be difficult.

"In the front!"

From the gap in the flesh that was about to heal, came Inosuke's voice.

'The head of the train?'

Tanjiro knew that Inosuke had a technique, Beast Breathing, Seventh Form: Spatial Awareness, that could sense a demon's location. Without a doubt in his heart, he charged straight for the front of the train.

And inside the carriages of the Mugen Train, Inosuke, wearing his boar's head mask, swung his two nicked Nichirin Swords, continuously shouting "Pig Assault!" as he charged excitedly towards the regenerating fleshy tentacles.

And behind him, the timid Zenitsu had no choice but to draw his Nichirin Sword and follow.

'How long has it been since that incident on Mount Natagumo...'

'Ah, come to think of it, it has been quite a while.'

Lexon used his breathing technique to travel, continuously advancing along the train tracks. His figure seemed to transform into lightning, leaving a series of sparks on the path he took.

'Solving the problem doesn't take much time, but the travel takes a lot of time...'

'It was like that last time on Mount Natagumo...'

'It won't be like that this time too, will it?'

Lexon thought.

'By the way, chasing a train is really tiring work.'

Although the Mugen Train had just left not long ago, it had taken Lexon a considerable amount of time to get from headquarters to the train station.

And the Mugen Train was constantly moving, not stopping to wait for people, so Lexon had to use his breathing technique to maintain a speed much faster than the train's to be able to catch up to the speeding locomotive in time.

'Truly, speed and passion.'

Just now, when Lexon had jumped onto the tracks, the police officers at the station had even wanted to arrest him.

But when Lexon turned into a streak of light, they thought they had seen a ghost.

Maintaining high-speed movement with a breathing technique was still very tiring. If it were any other Hashira, they would have long since collapsed from exhaustion.

But Lexon was different.

The body he had, a superposition of the physical fitness of various Hashira and a demon he had signed in for, could barely support him doing this.

But it was still tiring.

Total Concentration: Constant was an extremely difficult thing to do, as could be seen from the painful training of Tanjiro and the others. And the peak state of Total Concentration Breathing that Lexon was maintaining with every moment of movement was on a whole other level.

"It's here!"

Tanjiro swung his Nichirin Sword and cut open the iron sheet on top of the lead car.

Then he saw a scene that astonished him.

A woman with long, loose hair and a crazed expression was grabbing the head of a man who was trying to merge into the bottom of the train.

And beside them, a train conductor was cowering in a corner, trembling nonstop.

'These two are both demons!'

Tanjiro judged in an instant.

'Are the two demons having a conflict?'

Tanjiro's hand, holding his Nichirin Sword, was a little hesitant. He did not immediately swing his sword at the two demons.

"What are you doing!" the male demon whose head was being held was very angry, his effeminate voice filled with immense resentment. "Lord Muzan has already given his orders, you can't do this!"

"He said I could kill them," the female demon's expression was terrifying, the exposed red flesh of her hands and feet a shocking sight. Her two eyes were wide, staring deadly at the male demon's head.

"Lord Muzan—" the male demon still wanted to say something, but was interrupted by the female demon.

"He said I could kill them," then the female demon's arm, which was grabbing the male demon's head, began to exert force, as if to tear the head off.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

The next moment, a powerful wail came from the male demon's mouth, the sound spreading out in waves.

His head was slowly leaving his neck.

Slowly, under Tanjiro's gaze, the male demon's head separated from his neck.

The pupils on that head, which had originally been shining with the characters for "Lower One," suddenly dimmed, and his eyes lost focus.

And even in the female demon's red palm, the unwilling eyes on that head gradually closed, and the angry and astonished expression became serene.
