Chapter 283 - Stealing the Kill

"What are you looking at, you jerk!" Perhaps it was a woman's intuition, but Tornado sensed something. She placed her hands on her hips and snapped at Lexon again.

"I'm not looking at anything," Lexon replied, waving his hand dismissively.

After all, even though she looked like a little girl, she was actually a mature woman. It was understandable.

He thought this to himself while he responded.

"Ordinary people should just focus on running away!" Tornado shouted, no longer paying him any mind. She flew toward the three-headed hound on the ground, which was already preparing to fire its laser.

While Tornado went to fight the hound, Lexon became curious about the green protective barrier surrounding him.

A novel power... Tornado's esper ability... the power of psychokinesis...

Instinctively, Lexon placed his palm against the barrier, attempting to use his own strength to analyze its secrets.

However, he opened his eyes just a few seconds after closing them.

"No good. I don't understand it,"

Lexon murmured.

The gap between world rules was simply too vast.

Even though Lexon had a deep resonance with the rules in the Naruto world—allowing him to perform jutsu he had never seen before without even signing in—different worlds were, indeed, different.

His resonance from the Naruto world clearly didn't apply here.

That meant he had no choice but to sign in.

Lexon watched the girl as she hovered, using her psychokinesis to suppress the three-headed hound.

'I have to make a move... Tornado seems to have had enough fun. It looks like she's about to get serious and kill that hound...'

'I can't let her steal the kill. I do have a side quest, after all.'

Lexon thought to himself, having kept a close eye on the battle the entire time.

Although the three-headed hound was what Lexon considered a Dragon-level disaster...

Tornado was the strongest esper, the S-Class Rank 2, and the face of the Hero Association.

Killing a mindless three-headed mutt that could only spit laser beams was relatively easy for her.

Thus, the kill-stealer Lexon decided to act.

Without hesitation, with a mere thought, the azure longsword he hadn't used in a long time appeared in his hand.

An azure flash of light swept out, and the green protective barrier surrounding Lexon instantly shattered.

Losing the support of the psychokinesis and without actively levitating, Lexon began to plummet from mid-air.

Tornado, who was about to finish off the hound, seemed to sense something. Her brow furrowed as she paused her movements and turned toward Lexon.

Seeing Lexon falling with a longsword in hand, she barked angrily, "What are you doing?! Do you want to die?!"

While scolding him, Tornado reached out toward Lexon, channeling her psychokinesis to wrap around him once more and prevent him from falling to his death.

But just before her psychokinesis could reach him, Lexon had already prepared his stance.

A Breathing Technique he hadn't used in a long time began to circulate once more.

Wisps of mist escaped from the corners of his mouth.

"Mist Breathing, Ninth Form: Scatters of Fog."

A calm, low murmur rose along with the swing of his Nichirin Sword...

A blurred, circular slash made of condensed mist left the blade.

It was hazy and illusory. Pervading senses were deceived, as if reality itself were missing frames.

Before anyone realized it, the misty slash had arrived in front of the three-headed hound.

Before the hound's three hideous heads could react, the blurred misty slash had already passed through its body.

However, the misty slash seemed to have merely passed through the hound's form without causing any impact... It appeared completely useless.

Confusion flickered in the eyes of the hound's three heads.

But as the beast tried to take a step forward to resume its attack on the humans, its legs suddenly began to turn into mist... followed by its body, heads, and tail...

Finally, the three-headed hound transformed entirely into gray mist, shaped like a foggy sculpture of itself.

A gentle breeze blew by.

In an instant, the hound-turned-mist scattered with the wind, leaving not a single trace behind.

Kill-steal successful.

Lexon returned his Nichirin Sword to his spatial ring and landed steadily.

High in the air, a dazed Tornado—whose psychokinesis intended to protect Lexon had already dissipated—looked at where the hound had vanished and then at Lexon, who was watching her from the ground. She was speechless.

After a long silence, her expression shifted, turning dark and uncertain.

She looked absolutely furious.

She flew down toward Lexon at high speed.

"What do you think you're doing?! Why did you kill my prey?! And why aren't you a normal person?!" As soon as she landed, Tornado put her hands on her hips. Her art style almost seemed to turn chibi-like as she yelled at Lexon in an annoyed tone.

"Because I want to be a hero, and that means taking out monsters," Lexon said, looking down at the legal loli with a smile.

"You haven't even registered with the Hero Association, yet you call yourself a hero?!" Tornado snapped, still incredibly irritated.

As the powerful S-Class Rank 2 hero, she was full of pride. She wouldn't tolerate anything that didn't go her way and spoke her mind freely.

"I haven't registered yet," Lexon admitted.

"If you want to be a hero, go register immediately!" Tornado pointed a finger at him, raising her voice to remind him.

It seemed that because Lexon's strength was decent and his intention to be a hero was genuine, she didn't give him too hard of a time.

Tornado was mostly just annoyed that her kill had been stolen and that Lexon had hidden the fact that he was an esper—or at least someone with supernatural abilities.

"I don't know where the registration office for the Hero Association is," Lexon added.

His intention was obvious: he wanted Tornado to take him there. Along the way, he might find a chance to touch the little brat and sign in for her esper ability.

Plus, it would deepen their relationship, allowing him to sign in a few more times in the future.

"Find it yourself! I don't care! I have a mission to do!" Tornado's response was completely outside Lexon's expectations. Green light flared around her, and she took off into the sky without a moment's hesitation.

Well, that was...

Lexon watched Tornado fly away, his heart stirring slightly.

'Her personality is just as unruly as in the original work...'

'Maybe I'll have to catch this legal loli and force a sign-in, just like I did with Kaguya...'

'But then again, Kaguya was a villain. Tornado is a hero, working hard to save civilians...'

'Doing that... wouldn't it be a bit wrong?'

Despite his thoughts, Lexon had no intention of giving up on signing in for her psychokinesis.

'I'll just put it off until after I've signed in with Baldy.'

Lexon thought to himself.
