Lara's POV
The world seemed to break apart the moment Marco shifted. The sound was brutal. Bones cracked. Power burst free. A roar tore from his chest, shaking the walls and forcing the remaining wolves to stagger back in fear. Where my husband had stood moments ago now loomed something ancient and terrifying, his massive body blocking the light, his fur soaked in blood that was not all his.
But even then, even as a beast, he did not leave me.
He placed himself in front of me, his broad back shielding my body. His head lowered in warning, his lips pulled back to show deadly fangs. His growl rolled through the floor, through my bones, through my heart. It was a clear promise of death to anyone who dared come closer.
