Chapter 63 - Chapter 21 - Night of Shadows

The moon hung high above the city of Berbeign, casting silver streaks across the quiet streets. Mila, still in her human disguise walked alone to the academy's empty training grounds, her silver hair brushing against her shoulders, her blue eyes distant.

She sank to the ground, hugging her knees. "Why… why can't I remember everything?" she whispered to herself. Her voice trembled, breaking slightly as memories teased her mind like fleeting shadows.

She clenched her fists, summoning her magic in an attempt to focus. Blagos Endos… just one fireball…

Her hands glowed, but the spell didn't form as she expected. Instead of a fiery orb, a massive, blazing dragon head erupted from her palm. Its mouth opened wide, and a brilliant, searing beam shot forward, cutting through the night air with a thunderous roar.

Mila stumbled backward, shielding her eyes from the intensity. Tears streamed down her face. "No… no! Not this… I just wanted to remember…"

The dragon head hovered for a brief second, roaring like a living nightmare, before dissipating into a flash of red and black light. Mila fell to her knees, clutching her head, panting.

Why does it keep happening? I just wanted to remember… Her shoulders shook with silent sobs as she sank fully to the ground.

"Stop… stop showing up… I can't control you…" she whispered. Her voice cracked, though no one was there to hear. Her hands twitched, glowing faintly as residual energy shimmered around her.

Mila's chest heaved, her mind caught between sorrow and fear. Every attempt to remember triggered the dragon beam instead of the fireball she wanted. The memories remained out of reach, slipping away each time as if mocking her.

I… I'm so tired… she thought, closing her eyes, feeling utterly small under the night sky. "I just… want… to know…"

For a few long minutes, she remained there, silent except for the soft sound of her ragged breathing, a lone figure struggling against both the magic inside her and the fragments of a past she couldn't yet reclaim.

Finally, she stood, swaying slightly, her silver hair catching the moonlight. "I… have to… keep trying… no matter what…" she muttered, more to herself than anyone else. And with that, she walked slowly back toward the academy, each step heavy, carrying the weight of the memories she couldn't grasp and the power she couldn't yet control.
