Jasper entered the room, his long strides carrying him across the room with Sophia in his arms. He gently placed her in his bed. He sat on the bed with her and gently cupped her face with his palms.
"You okay?" He asked. Sophia nodded.
"I'm sorry that I didn't get there sooner," he said in low tone.
"I'm okay Jasper," Sophia replied.
Knock, Knock.
Jasper sighed. "Come in," he said.
Maids trooped in. They were well dressed in white and blue aprons, their hair tied in a bun.
One of the maids handed him a towel and another a bowl of hot water.
"The doctor?" Jasper asked, dipping the towel inside the water.
"He is on the way, Sir.said he is in traffic." One of the maid said.
Jasper turned to her and raised a brow.
"I will get him here now, excuse me Sir," she said and quickly walked away.
Sophia watched the maid act. It felt similar to the way Atticus's maids did. It felt like a replay of scenes. She was lost in her own world.
She suddenly felt a burn on her face and screamed. She pushed the towel away.
"Ouch! Jasper, are you mad?" Sophia snapped.
The maids gasped and began to whisper among themselves.
"Oh my God, did she just talk to sir? She's dead meat!"
Jasper wasn't the type you spoke back to; he was feared by his staff. He was ruthless in his dealings. You dared not misbehave, or you would be punished severely. He was called the Tyrant.
Jasper giggled. "I'm sorry, but you weren't answering me. What were you even thinking of?" he teased.
The maids looked at each other in shock. Nobody had ever spoken to him like that before and survived. He had never said sorry, but why was he doing it for this woman?
Sophia chuckled awkwardly. "Nothing! But did you have to burn me?" she said, frowning as she touched her cheek.
Jasper giggled as he checked the spot.
"Well, it's just red," Jasper said, smiling.
"It's not just red, Jasper. It hurts," Sophia frowned.
Jasper chuckled and blew on it.
"How is it now?" Jasper asked.
Sophia was embarrassed; she quickly covered her face with the blanket. She felt uneasy when a guy treated her like a baby, especially in front of people. She wasn't used to it.
"What… what's wrong?" Jasper asked worriedly.
"You're weird," Sophia giggled.
Jasper smiled.
"I'm not done," he said.
"Oh, I'm done… so done," Sophia mumbled under the sheet.
Jasper sighed and handed the bowl to the maids.
"You may all leave," he said, pulling the blanket off Sophia.
When the maids left, Sophia sat up.
"Why would you do that?" Sophia muttered.
"Well I have a set of maids; they are very disobedient. They respect me, but I have to make sure that even if a hair in you is plucked out, I will pluck out their soul." Jasper said with a straightforward face.
"WOW, I see," Sophia nodded. She then recalled the fight at the Atticus house.
"Jasper are you some kind of Gangster or mafia boss." Sophia asked.
Jasper fell silent. He had hidden this part of him from the whole world and Sophia, so she wouldn't find out and also to protect her from his enemies.
This part of him was a dangerous life and he wanted her to be safe. He sighed and was about to speak.
Knock, knock.
A man walked inside. Jasper stood up.
"Dr. Ben, please come in. Make sure to cross every t and dot every i." Jasper said.
"Yes sir," the man replied.
Jasper turned to Sophia. "I'll be back," he said and walked away.
"Wait, jasper," Sophia said, but he had already gone.
