After resting inside the room for a few minutes, the group decided to exit the room quickly, as they figured the monsters would have left by now. Grover opened the door first while trying his best to ignore the smell from the door. After turning his head sideways, he signalled the others that the coast was clear.
Within minutes, they exited the dam after saying goodbye and thanking Rachel.
"If you meet that idiot, tell him I'm still waiting for the answer," she shouted out with a smile.
The others nodded awkwardly at that, as they felt it was better not to reveal the fact that Silva was currently missing due to the attack from the monsters.
Seeing them leave, Rachel decided to go back and join her class once more, as the trip was not over yet.
But as she was returning to her group, trouble was waiting for her on the way.
"Boss, that's the girl who helped the demigods escape!!" A cyclops shouted out from the crowd of mortals.
Rachel did not wait to confirm how many monsters were targeting her. The moment she saw the monster point his finger towards her, she threw one of the darts towards them while running in a direction opposite to where her classmates were situated.
Silva had stressed many times that every monster has a sense of smell stronger than that of dogs. So if she went back to her classmates, the monsters would detect her smell on them and might use them as hostages to capture her. And they might even hurt them to make her more compliant.
As the monsters drew closer to her, she threw one dart after the other. And seeing how easily it was destroying their kin, the monsters scrambled in different directions every time one was thrown, buying Rachel precious moments to escape.
But within a few minutes, she ran out of darts, and she had to throw the canister at the monsters to buy enough time.
And one of the monsters, realising that the girl had not thrown a dart at them, became too enthusiastic and decided to cut down the canister with his sword.
Swish!!
The blade cleanly cut the canister, showering the rest of its contents over every single monster that was running after Rachel.
"Oh my God!! It burns!!"
"Fred!! What the hell, man!!"
"Why the fuck is it wet and dry at the same time!!"
The monsters kept on shouting while Rachel managed to get away by running as fast as she could. The training Silva had given her was actually showing its fruits today.
But even with all that training, Rachel was still a mortal. Even with the Sight, her bodily functions and strength were still within the realm of humans.
By the time she reached the top of the dam, she was panting hard while feeling like she couldn't move another inch.
She sat down on the ground and began taking big gulps of air to calm her tired body.
But the monsters who were behind her were not kind enough to give her time to rest.
One of them was immediately standing in front of her while holding a large club in his hands.
"Well, finally, the little birdy got caught. I'm gonna make you pay for everything you did to us. That smell won't go away for a few days," the cyclops growled as he raised his club.
Rachel closed her eyes as a lot of thoughts went through her head at the same time. She remembered the fight she had with her parents last year. She remembered her green initiative and the fights she had taken upon herself with her friends.
And most importantly, she remembered the promise she had forced out of Silva the last time they had met.
When Silva had rejected her, it hurt more than anything she had ever felt in her life. And afterwards, when she avoided him, she felt even more hurt about the fact that their relationship was ending that way.
'Goddamn it, you idiot. Where the hell are you?' she screamed in her mind as she waited for the blow to land.
But the expected pain did not appear. All she felt was some kind of dust falling on her skin, which disappeared within a few seconds.
She slowly opened her eyes to find the one person she had wanted to meet for a long time.
"Hey, you alright? I got here as fast as I could," Silva said as he offered her his hand to pull her up.
But Rachel knew what she had to do right now. Being so close to death has a way of showing a person their priorities.
Instead of taking his hand, she grasped his collar and pulled him towards herself, and this time, he did not turn his face away.
Silva POV
The moment Silva realised Rachel was in danger, he began running as fast as he could towards Hoover Dam. He had put a spell on the darts that alerted him the moment they were used.
When he got to the dam, he saw a large cluster of monsters suffering from what he could describe as a concentrated amount of special spray he had managed to get from the dark web.
He immediately shot a few arrows, putting them out of their misery.
Then he ran around the dam until he found Rachel, who was about to be killed by a cyclops wielding a club.
Silva didn't hesitate for a millisecond and used both his Greek and Egyptian artefacts to fire an arrow, instantly killing the monster and disintegrating it completely, along with its club.
He then moved near Rachel, asked whether she was alright, and tried to offer her his hand to pick her up. But instead, she pulled herself up and pulled him towards herself using his collar.
Silva's perception was many times faster than that of a normal human, even without using the ring gifted to him by Athena. So he was able to clearly see Rachel as she pulled him towards herself.
He had ample opportunities to dodge the action. But his mind went through everything that had stopped him from pursuing Rachel completely.
But then he remembered Apollo advising him to follow his heart.
And he always knew what he wanted deep in his heart.
He let himself be pulled closer by the girl he loved.
A/N: Sorry for the cringe at the end. Hope you like it.
