.

Curt told him the WDRA's intentions with the project. They wanted more effective disaster relief agents, people with better vision, sense of smell, and stamina to work harder. For that part of the project, they had focused on bats and dogs. However, the agency director was not opposed to Curt and Richard's interest in medical applications. Different animal species possessed abilities, such as cell regeneration and immunity to certain toxins and diseases. When applied to a human, they seemed almost superhuman. But the intention, at least Curt 's , had not been to create supersoldiers .

Oscorp 's interests shifted, that's all. Stark and Trask were so successful because they focused on technology. Osborn believed the company's future lay in biotechnology—that is, the combination of technology and body enhancements: faster planes that will make pilots faster," Curt explained .

He only used a rough example, he had heard some things, but he never got to see exactly what Norman had planned.

"Richard and I left the company shortly after our project was shut down. We had parted ways with Slade and Arthur long before that."

"Did my dad ever have any problems there?" Sven asked.

"What do you mean?" Curt asked .

"Was there ever any disturbance when my dad was working?"

Curt put a hand to his chin, thinking long and hard. He reviewed what he remembered and recalled an incident.

"Just before his transfer, his father hinted that Norman and Covington were having an affair," Curt said .

"That's all?" Sven's expression was flat, disappointed, as if he had expected something more.

"I wish I could tell you more, but it was unexpected. No one at the lab saw enough of Norman and Covington together to have any clue whether Slade 's accusation was true," Curt explained .

"I see. What happened to the project?" Sven asked.

After the cataclysm and the recession, too much money was invested. Osborn couldn't afford to continue funding a project that wasn't yielding commercial results, so, as usual, it was shut down. Parker and I continued it until his tragic death a few years ago.

"I read about that too, a plane crash, right?"

Curt nodded hesitantly, preferring not to express his doubts to Sven. But then he saw Sven's eyes narrow slightly; it was a signal that Slade had to do it. He noticed the consultant look at Covington that way once. It showed his suspicion; he suspected Curt knew more than he let on. Curt thanked the students who entered the room; he didn't want to speak to the young man anymore. Any smile he could muster faltered when he saw who one of the students was.

"Hello, Dr. Conners," said Peter Parker.

Peter Parker, son of Harry Osborn, friend and partner of Curt , son of the founder of his project. Just as Sven had been to Slade , Harry and Peter were more like their fathers than their mothers.

"Hi Peter, I'm sorry Mr. Reilly, but I have students to attend to," Curt said .

"Okay, it was nice meeting you," Sven smiled again, that smile so similar to Slade 's .

He nodded to Peter's group as he left the lab.

"Who was that person?" asked Mary Jane.

"The son of an old friend," Curt said sincerely; there was no need to elaborate. "How are they? Has Warren been arrested yet?"

"Unfortunately not, it gave me the creeps," Harry said.

Curt nodded, glad to be able to talk about something other than the past. For him, the past was a curse he wanted to leave behind. He prayed that Sven wouldn't get involved, but he prayed even more for Richard Parker's son.

Brooklyn

Scott and Warren had managed to enter Brooklyn undetected. Scott received a few glances because of his visor. However, he'd long since stopped caring, peering through the red visor. Before his eyes became generators of intense energy, he'd been colorblind; now he only saw red, not exactly a change from gray. The club was gearing up for the night ahead; the doors were open, and Scott could see people setting up the stage. Warren noticed a sign on the door.

" Dazzler ," it said, showing a blonde woman in a silver disco outfit with tattooed blue eyes. The flashing lights on the sign, in addition to epilepsy warnings, would be flashing throughout the evening. Apparently, Dazzler would be singing throughout, covering Katy Perry's " Firework ," Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga. So far, Warren had never heard of Dazzler , but her name suited her appearance; she definitely dazzled him. He frowned slightly, more to himself, feeling her wings brush against his coat.

"Miss Blaire and Tolansky work here. Let's ask," Scott said.

"We don't have badges, Scott, that's not exactly prudent," Warren dismissed.

"Warren, they're about our age. Let's pretend we're their friends or something, come on."

"This isn't going to work," Warren shook his head as Scott frowned.
