Chapter 37 - Chapter 37:

"Our first team with Iron Man, Ward, I would take that rifle and walk away from that window right now," the agent said.

"What? Are you worried about Robin Hood? His arrows won't reach me..." Ward yelled as an arrow slammed into his shoulder, pinning him against the wall a foot away from him.

"Yeah, Barton's muscular arms aren't just for show, his bow isn't your average type either. It takes immense strength to draw that string. Tripplet , go find that idiot agent, I'm going to secure the target," Garret explained.

"Yes, sir," another officer said over the radio.

Garret stretched out his arms and ran. Leaving a crack in the street, he leaped high enough to dig his claws into the building and climb onto the rooftop. The Widow glared at Garret, pulling a pair of pistols from her belt. He fired a burst of bullets that Garret blocked with his hands. He closed in on the Widow, trying to hit her. As the woman rolled to dodge his attack, he rolled out of range of her attempted blow.

"Your little widow's kiss won't work on me, honey," he mocked.

He tilted his head back, narrowly dodging an arrow fired by Hawkeye. Recovering from his previous attack, Iron Man fired a repulsorlift blast and knocked Hawkeye down.

"Good shot. Have you ever thought about switching to a public service job? The pensions are worth it," Garret said.

"Sorry, but the money is private," Tony said.

He was still sweating under his helmet, but he still managed to show courage. Garret tried to hit Widow again, but she jumped on him. Iron Man fired a blast, hitting her in the chest and knocking her into Garret's arms.

"I got a spider," Garret said, confused, tilting her head for a moment. "Are you sure?" She seemed to be talking to someone. "I'm sorry about this lady, but I have orders."

She started squeezing harder, and Tony's eyes flew open beneath his helmet. He could hear the woman's bones crunching. Garret was going to crush her. Tony was no stranger to bloodshed; he had thousands of deaths on his hands, and the handful of men he'd killed himself. The woman had deliberately saved his life; Tony wasn't going to ignore that action. Firing his repulsorlifts , he brought her and Garret down.

"Damn, you really are an amateur," Garret growled.

The Widow leaped from the roof, shooting a cable from her wrist and using it to swing across the street. She hit her belt buckle and suddenly disappeared.

"Light bending technology," Tony whistled in amazement.

"We have that and more at WDRA," Garret snorted.

Tony turned to Mark when he heard the boy scream. He was clutching his head, writhing in pain as his skin glowed again. Garret swallowed before jumping off the roof.

"YOU HAVE TO GET AWAY!" he yelled at Iron Man.

Suddenly, the temperature around Mark increased, causing him to combust. He was thrown from the roof, landed, and left a crater in the road. Mark emerged from the crater; his skin glowed a deep orange, and each step melted the road. Tony landed a few feet away from him, with a crack in his helmet.

"Oh no," he was familiar with explosions, chemical reactions and their first signs.

Mark's temperature was rising and would continue to rise. If left unchecked, he could start more than a few building fires. A shadow suddenly appeared over Mark and the WRDA agents. Hawkeye narrowed his eyes at the object and tapped his communicator. Behind him, X-51 watched and stepped forward, tempted to intervene.

Uatu 's voice echoed in his mind.

The shadow had been followed by a light. A light that came from the golden armor of the being Gary Stewarts had become. Behind him, however, were wings of darkness and blood, a parody of the purity of his body. He looked at Mark, showing no compassion for his fear.

"Your savior has arrived," he proclaimed, before darkness enveloped Mark.

Beast and Iceman kicked the Sentinel's arm, desperately trying to break free from its grasp. Bobby fired more fog into the Sentinel's eyes. It disrupted its targeting systems and obscured its vision. This gave Hank the opportunity to leap off the wall with all his might, curling into a ball and slamming into the Sentinel's head. The robot slammed into the ground, sending it stumbling across the rooftops. Trask gritted his teeth in frustration and threw his arm forward.

"Just kill those mutants and worry about the collateral damage later," he said.

"But sir, if the Sentinel program turns out to be as dangerous to the public as the mutants, we'll be shut down."

"Once the Sentinel's ability to kill mutants is demonstrated, it won't matter," Trask countered .
