Chapter 47 – The Return Home
When Bai Xia got home, it was already around 7:00 p.m., and the rest of the family had returned. The living room was lively, everyone gathered together and watching something on television.
"Jie jie , you're back! Look—look, you're on TV!"
Bai Xia blinked and looked toward the screen. There, displayed for everyone to see, was her own face. The TV station was broadcasting the grand auction from that afternoon. She hadn't expected to see herself on national television so soon, though it made sense—there had been so many reporters present today. Curious about how the report would evaluate her performance, she sat down and joined them in watching.
---
In another part of town, inside the old Bai family house, Madam Bai's loud, sharp voice filled the air.
"My son and granddaughters are millionaires! We're rich! Our Bai family is rich—we finally made it!"
The old black-and-white television flickered in front of her, one that her eldest son had bought years ago. On it, she could clearly see Bai Sung and Chu Sun standing beside their daughter at the auction.
Madam Bai's eyes gleamed greedily as she watched their luxurious outfits and dignified appearance. Every frame showed wealth and prestige. Gu Yan and Mu Yen, seated beside her, clenched their fists tightly. Seeing Chu Sun's radiant appearance filled them with both jealousy and envy.
Bai Ai and Bai Gin, standing quietly in the corner, wore sour looks on their faces. Compared to Bai Xia and Bai Xuan's elegant, noble demeanor, they looked like poor country girls. "Why do they get to live like that?" they thought bitterly.
The Bai brothers had different reactions. Bai Lan was already grinning ear to ear, slapping his thighs with excitement. "My brother finally made money! We're going to live like big men now!" he said, already daydreaming about what he'd do once he got his share.
Only Bai Ling and Bai Lang remained quiet, their expressions thoughtful. Then Bai Ling finally said coldly, "Don't forget—Bai Sung isn't part of this family anymore. We cut ties, remember?"
Madam Bai instantly smacked him on the head. "Cut ties? What nonsense! He's still my son! I carried him for nine months in this belly!"
Her gaze turned vicious. "Tomorrow, we're going to the city. We'll move into their mansion. Bai Ai told me they've moved into a luxurious villa, and that mansion belongs to me!"
Everyone cheered—except Bai Ling and Bai Lang.
"Mother," Bai Lang said carefully, "why don't you and the others go first? See his attitude before we move all our things."
Madam Bai nodded slightly but still planned to pack her belongings. The moment she entered that mansion, she swore she'd never return to this shabby old house again.
---
The next morning, Bai Xuan and Bai Xia went to the bank together, Stella driving them. After counting everything, the total earnings from yesterday's auction amounted to 446,400,000 yuan.
Bai Xia handed Bai Xuan 100,000,000 yuan, which her sister accepted with heartfelt gratitude. After leaving the bank, the two decided to reward themselves with a bit of luxury and headed to a high-end beauty shop.
---
At that same moment, at the gates of the villa residence, the old Bai family stood impatiently in front of the guards.
"My son owns a house here! How dare you treat us like this!" Madam Bai shouted.
The guards frowned; the group looked too shabby to belong to any of the residents here. "Please show us your access pass," one guard said politely.
"We don't have a pass!" Bai Lan barked.
"Then the phone number of the villa owner?"
"We don't have that either! Just let us in, or you'll regret it when my son fires you!" Madam Bai bellowed.
The guards exchanged skeptical looks.
Just then, Gu Yan spotted a small figure riding a bicycle nearby—Bai Xin. "See! That's my niece! Ask her if we're her relatives!"
The guards turned toward the girl. "Hey, little one, do you know those people?"
When Bai Xin saw the faces beyond the gate, her expression froze. Though she was young, she knew those people were bad news.
The guard squatted to her level. "Little girl, don't lie. Just tell us if they're really your relatives."
After a long pause, Bai Xin nodded weakly. The guards immediately opened the gate.
"See! I told you!" Madam Bai boasted proudly as they were let in.
The guards, unaware of the brewing chaos, even gave them the villa's address.
---
Meanwhile, Bai Xin pedaled home at full speed, her little legs working furiously. She burst into her mother's room, but Chu Sun was in the shower, so she ran downstairs, gasping for breath as she reached for a glass of water.
By the time she looked up, it was too late—the Bai family had already arrived at the front gate.
Bai Lan banged excitedly on the door. An Yu, the family's butler, opened it with a puzzled expression.
"We're relatives of Bai Sung! Let us in," Madam Bai demanded.
An Yu hesitated but, noticing the resemblance between them and her employers, eventually allowed them inside.
Upstairs, Chu Sun was finishing her skincare routine when she heard her daughter's panicked voice.
"Mom! Mom, come quick! Grandma and uncle are downstairs!"
"What?" Chu Sun froze in disbelief. The Bai family? What are they doing here?
After a moment, she composed herself. "Xin'er, go to your room."
She dressed carefully, her expression calm but her mind sharp. It was time those people saw that the old Chu Sun no longer existed.
