I set my glass down on the table, and I could tell he was waiting patiently for me to say something.
What am I to say to him?
Earlier, I had more, more to say than I ever had... because I didn't like how things played out between us. I wanted to talk to him, Esme wanted to, too, but he's never gonna get that chance. Ever.
What we had... whatever friendship I thought we shared, or understanding, or the last five years. Those were over.
"If I have heard you correctly, not only did you betray the trust you had with Catherine King... you also put their lives in danger."
"Yes, I know that—"
"No, you don't..." I cut him off before he had a chance to speak.
He had no idea.
"I have a strong source who told me about the hit ordered by Constance King. Their mission was to kill Catherine and take her daughter."
Reed's eyes widened. "Wh-What?"
"I guess you didn't know that..." I said, amused. "But how could you? You must have been in a box."
