Julia's POV
I drifted somewhere between consciousness and sleep, my mind swimming through a hazy fog. Voices filtered through the darkness, distant at first, then growing clearer as they pulled me toward wakefulness. My body felt heavy against the mattress, but my ears sharpened despite my drowsiness.
Gavin's voice reached me first, rough and strained in a way I'd never heard before. Then Dr. Caspian's familiar tone, clinical yet gentle. I kept my eyes closed, my breathing steady, letting them believe I was still lost to whatever had claimed me.
"Pregnant? Julia is pregnant?"
The words hit me like ice water. My heart stuttered, then began racing so fast I worried they'd hear it. Pregnant. The word echoed in my skull, bouncing around until it made me dizzy. That couldn't be right. They had to be talking about someone else.
