Entering the large office building from the bottom, Orion distinctly felt a strong sense of mourning among the workers. Walking up to the receptionist, he tapped the desk and asked about his meeting.
"I'm here for an appointment with Mr. Gallin regarding the new security system."
The receptionist looked up from her desk, looking quite crestfallen. "Ninth floor. Someone will meet you up there." She then picked up the phone and dialed a call, probably to the ninth floor.
Orion nodded, and slowly walked into the elevator. Inside, he noticed a slight bloodstain on the lower corner of the wall.
However, having checked the detailed report Alvin had left on his desk earlier, he knew that a terrible incident had occurred in this building before, and they were unable to identify the assailant.
With these thoughts in mind, he had reached the ninth floor, and an old man wearing sunglasses and a casual coat greeted him at the elevator door.
"Hey. You're the one from High Point Tech right?"
"Yes, I am. Are you Mr. Gallin?"
"Who else? Come in. I need your opinion on something."
Turning his back to Orion and raising his arm, he signaled for him to follow. Unhesitatingly, he followed further into the building. Upon walking for a minute, he was led into a studio seemingly for sound design and recording.
"What's all this for, Mr. Gallin?" Orion asked.
Raising his arm, the old man pointed at a small security camera in the corner of the room.
"That camera. Does it cover the entire studio?" The old man slowly turned to Orion. "You're a specialist too right? Can you tell me?"
Slightly confused, Orion turned to the camera. "Theoretically, it covers the entire room, save for the recording booth. But nobody can get into the recording booth without being seen by this camera anyways, so it technically covers the entire room. It's practically foolproof because..."
Mr. Gallin sighed. "Because it's so old that it can't be remotely tampered with."
Still confused, Orion looked at Mr. Gallin. "You don't seem to have any surveillance issues. Why did you ask me about this?"
"I've heard rumors about High Point Tech is all. Some special technology, as well as their affluence in that other world. I was hoping they would have something that could help me with this."
Pulling out his phone, Mr. Gallin showed Orion a video playback, from the same angle as the camera he just inspected.
From the video, he could see the studio filled with people, as well as an exceptionally beautiful young woman in the recording booth. However, without warning the door to the studio swung open as the studio members jumped in shock. But while the workers were in shock, the door to the recording booth also swung open, and the woman suddenly rose into the air.
Her neck seemed to be constricted by something, and in less than seconds she quickly suffocated in the air, falling to the ground.
Then, the studio workers suddenly exploded, catapulting their blood and flesh all around as an invisible figure outlined by blood walked out of the room.
Upon letting the video finish, Mr. Gallin put his phone away and explained. "The mysterious circumstances surrounding these deaths is something I believe High Point Tech can help me with. All I'm asking for is a referral."
Furrowing his brows with a frown on his face, Orion remained silent for a while, only to slowly respond. "I'm afraid that from what I know, High Point can't deal with these kinds of things. All we do is sell software."
Mr. Gallin appeared disappointed by that response. Sighing, he dismissed Orion. "Alright then. There's nothing more for you to do here. But Angela was like a daughter to me, and I can't bear to know nothing at all about the circumstances. Do let me know if you find out about anything that could help me."
Nodding silently, Orion exchanged contacts with the old man as he walked out of the building.
"I thought you told me High Point had devices to track these... things."
Once Orion left, Mr. Gallin seemed to speak into nothingness. However, a thin and pale figure emerged from the shadows in the corner of the room. "They do. But I didn't think even a team leader wouldn't know about this."
Mr. Gallin spoke softly to the man. "Is it possible that he just didn't want to sell it to us?"
"Perhaps. But I think it's more likely he doesn't even know about it. His expressions didn't seem faked."
"Is there any other place we can get what we need to find them?" Sighing again, Mr. Gallin asked the mysterious man.
The pale man paused for a while before replying. "I don't know. I'll keep an eye out though. We'll find the killer eventually."
...
Barely maintaining his composure, Orion stumbled out of the building, almost as if drunk. His head was splitting the moment he saw the video, stacked upon his disgust for the gore of it.
'That clearly wasn't a natural death. But, there was no clear killer, nor did any of those people die by any typical means.'
Pondering while watching the sunset, Orion suddenly noticed something.
'Is that... another moon?'
Gazing into the golden afterglow of the sunset, he saw a supermassive dark moon rising from the earth, with half of a second one on the way.
'This... isn't Earth is it...'
Staring dumbfounded at the two moons, slowly rising from the horizon, Orion slowly came to terms with his new reality. Without a way to go back, he would have to adapt to this new world sooner or later.
'It all makes sense now. It was strange that I never heard of that idol before today. And my clothes were different when I woke up. My face had a cut I didn't remember. My feeling strangely sluggish in all my actions. And my colleagues didn't even remember the company drinking party last night. Wait, so does this mean this isn't even my body?'
Countless thoughts raced through Orion's mind as he connected the dots about this new world. But a strange feeling rose inside him upon realizing this world wasn't nearly as similar to his original world as he initially thought.
'The way that idol Angela died wasn't exactly by any normal means. Could it be this world has some kind of supernatural power? And since Mr. Gallin asked for a referral from me to High Point Tech, could it be that there's something I really don't know about the company?'
With the prime example of himself, crossing over into another world, any kinds of supernatural ideas he had seemed justified.
However, with it already being sundown, he had to get back to the office to report his work before heading home for the night. Tearing his eyes away from the stunningly beautiful dark moons, he called a cab to head back to the office.
...
Waltzing back into the office, Orion headed to his desk to place the supermarket chain's contract down. However, he was intercepted on the way by the middle aged man who was making a fuss earlier in the day.
"So, Orion. Did you get to all three clients today?"
Coldly staring down at him, the man waited for his response with a judgmental aura.
"Sorry sir, I couldn't get to them all. However, Mr. Gallin from Cosmic Music Entertainment asked me for a referral for some special tracking technology. Is there anything we can do?"
Taken aback, the man replied much less harshly. "Oh? I see you got lucky with this one. This would be your first time selling these, so I'll go with you for this deal. Be here first thing tomorrow morning. Don't be late like today, or you won't be getting any commission from this sale."
Seemingly indifferent to whether Orion had met all three clients today or not, he walked back to his office, leaving Orion pondering on the nature of this special technology.
But before he could get far with his thoughts, Alvin approached him once the middle aged man left.
"Hey Orion, you're back! How did you get the general manager off your back? You didn't really meet all the clients today right? That time crunch would be nearly impossible!"
Shaking his head, Orion unsteadily replied. "I'm not completely sure myself. But I think I'll know by tomorrow. I didn't meet all my clients, so the funeral home will have to wait for tomorrow- actually maybe the day after that. I don't know how long the work the general manager has for me is."
"Speaking of, how was your work today Alvin?"
Seemingly embarrassed, Alvin responded while holding his neck. "Well, just the usual. Researching clients. I still haven't had my first deal yet, the rest of the team doesn't quite trust me yet."
Putting on his first true smile of the day, Orion replied helplessly. "You'll get there eventually. How about next week, I'll find a client you can have your first deal with?"
Alvin's eyes lit up as he responded. "Really? That would be great, thanks!"
As they both walked out of the office chatting, Orion suddenly had a thought.
'Even if it's a different world, I guess people don't change so easily.'
