Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: The Secret Hidden by the Girl Ghost

Alex Carter looked at the lotus lantern drifting away with the river, recalling his experiences from the previous two days...

Alex had actually lied; he didn't get lost chasing a Gastly.

With his strength, how could he not be able to deal with a single Gastly and get lost?

That day, after chasing the girl's soul out of the center of the small forest, he arrived in front of the girl's stone statue in the middle of the night.

"According to what that Gastly just said, it's here," Alex said, looking at the girl's stone statue.

"But where's the way in? That Gastly said that once I got here, I would understand."

"I've got it! Haunter, come out!" Alex released Haunter.

"Haunter, see if there's anything unusual about this statue," Alex was very confident in Haunter.

"Haunter!"

After receiving the command, Haunter circled the girl's statue, finally stopping on its head.

"Well, Haunter? Did you find anything?" Alex called out to Haunter.

"Haunter, Haunter!" Haunter nodded while calling out.

"Use Psychic to send me up to take a look," Alex said, deep in thought.

"Hoo~" Haunter's eyes glowed blue, and he used Psychic to slowly float Alex onto the girl's statue's head.

Alex stood on the girl's statue's head, tapping and feeling around.

Then, with a click, a hole suddenly appeared beneath Alex's feet.

"Haunter!" Alex shouted.

"Hoo~" Haunter, with great perceptiveness, used Psychic to control Alex's body, then slowly floated downwards.

After an unknown amount of time, when he had descended to a certain depth, a faint light suddenly illuminated Alex's surroundings.

The light gradually grew brighter and brighter, eventually revealing the full scene.

"I didn't expect there to be such a hidden mechanism here. Who would have thought the statue was hollow inside, and there's so much space here?" Alex said as he scanned the surrounding area.

The base of the statue was a room-sized space.

At the very back was a table, and on the table was a photograph.

It showed a woman holding a baby, but the large 'R' on the front of her clothes already revealed her identity.

"It's someone from Team Rocket? But I don't know who it is, or why something like this would appear in this place," Alex said, looking at the photo in confusion.

"Haunter!" Haunter kept calling out in one direction.

Alex looked over and saw a box there.

"Is there something wrong with this box, Haunter?"

He picked up the box and examined it.

It was just a very ordinary wooden box with some strange patterns on it.

When opened, it contained nothing special, just a little white powder.

Then, Haunter's eyes suddenly glowed blue, and he used Psychic on the box.

Suddenly, the entire stone room was bathed in a faint white light.

Then, a woman's figure emerged from the box.

"It's you, the mysterious girl from the dock. It's you, isn't it?" Alex scrutinized the girl's soul before him.

"Yes, it's me. I'm sorry for bringing you here," the girl's soul said with an apologetic expression.

"Judging by your attire, you should also be from Team Rocket, right? What do you want with me? Logically speaking, shouldn't you be looking for James and Jessie? What business do you have with me, an unrelated person?" Alex said without changing his expression.

"I know you're also from Team Rocket, but since you're hiding your identity, there must be a reason for it. It's an arrangement from above; I can't inquire about it. Besides, I'm already dead, and I don't know how Team Rocket is developing now," the girl said slowly.

"You, you know I'm from Team Rocket. Who exactly are you? How did you know my identity?" Alex, realizing he couldn't hide it, simply admitted it.

"Actually, I don't know you," the girl said with a smile.

"You tricked me?" Alex said, displeased.

"No, I didn't trick you. I do know you're from Team Rocket, but who is Ethan Carter to you?"

"You know my father? Then who are you?" Alex stared at the girl.

"My name is Miyamoto, and I am Jessie's mother," the girl said calmly.

"Then why didn't you bring Jessie here, but me instead? Also, how did you know my father?" Alex looked at Miyamoto with a somewhat strange expression.

"I used to work for your father's mother. Because of my excellent performance, I had a place within Team Rocket. When I was in my twenties, your father's mother sent me to search for Mew—the legendary Pokémon. So, I came to you, not Jessie, because she doesn't have enough strength. Jessie is really too weak right now."

"Wait a minute, if that's the case, then why is Giovanni leading all of Team Rocket now, and not my father?" Alex asked.

"What? Giovanni is leading Team Rocket now, not your father, Ethan Carter?" the girl looked surprised.

"It seems many changes have occurred since I was sent to search for Mew. I'm sorry, I can't answer your question."

"However, what I can tell you is that Team Rocket's true enemy is not Team Plasma."

"What? Not Team Plasma? Aren't they our Team Rocket's arch-nemesis?" Alex asked in surprise.

"I used to think so too, but later I found out it's not what we imagined. Let me tell you a story," the girl's soul said, slowly sitting down.

"That year, I heard a sound similar to a baby crying in the jungles of South America. At that time, I immediately realized that this situation was very rare, so I reported the news to my superior, who was the mother of your father, Lord Ethan Carter."

"At that time, I couldn't help myself. After that, I was sent to other places to search for Mew, and I had to go on a long business trip."

"I never forgot my daughter, Jessie. I always carried a photo of us together, the one you just saw on the table."

"Finally, persistence paid off, and I eventually found the legendary Mew near the Andes Mountains."

"I was very happy at the time, because no one had ever seen Mew's true form, but I did. Mew is truly a very kind Pokémon. He talked to me, chatted with me, and conversed with me."

"I even showed him a photo of my daughter, Jessie. After that, I gave up the idea of catching Mew. Because I realized the gap between us; I simply couldn't defeat him."

"Mew, I think it's a blessing for humanity to have him. Mew should not be captured by outsiders or used for their purposes. Even if we, Team Rocket, can't control Mew, it's the same; there are other tools that can help us."

"But suddenly, a rift tore open in the sky, and a spaceship emerged from it."

"And the person who came out of the spaceship was someone I hadn't expected: Boss Giovanni."

"I was very curious at the time, because with Giovanni's status back then, he wasn't qualified to search for Mew. Moreover, he came out of something like a space-time rift, which wasn't an ability he possessed."

"Then he released a Pokémon I had never seen before. He tried to capture Mew, and he didn't seem to recognize me."

"After that, I don't remember anything. My last memory is of Mew trying to protect me, but failing. That's probably how I died."

"At that time, I saw that the Team Rocket uniform on Boss Giovanni had a large 'R' on the front, but it wasn't our Team Rocket's 'R'; it was rainbow-colored."

A rainbow-colored Team Rocket uniform?
