Timothy's Office - 6:45 PM
Timothy stood at the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, watching the city lights begin to flicker on as dusk settled over the skyline. His reflection stared back at him composed, controlled, the mask he'd worn for so long it had become second nature.
But beneath that mask, his mind was racing.
Emily had something to tell him. Something significant enough that she'd been putting it off for weeks. Something that made her nervous, made her careful, made her look at him sometimes like she was afraid he'd disappear.
He'd given her time. Space. Patience.
Tonight, he'd finally get answers.
His desk was clear except for three takeout containers from Emily's favorite restaurant and a bottle of wine he'd been saving for a special occasion. He wasn't sure if this qualified, but it felt appropriate somehow.
A celebration and a revelation.
His phone buzzed.
