Clara wasn't surprised when she noticed that the security guys following them that morning were more than usual. After all, she was going out with the Ashfords' young boy, one that Mr and Mrs Ashford clearly adored. From the quiet, affectionate glances between Ethan and Axiel, it was obvious that they loved each other deeply. And as far as Clara had seen, Axiel was the only person Ethan ever seemed to have a genuine soft spot for.
Clara texted Sofia to notify her that she was coming with Axiel. They decided to go to the zoo first, since Sofia explained that it was quieter and more private than the public park, which suited Axiel fine.
When the Ashford driver pulled up outside the zoo, Sofia was already waiting, hands tucked into the pockets of her light jacket.
As soon as she spotted them, she ran to them, crouched low, a huge smile spreading across her face. "And who is this handsome young man?" she asked warmly.
Sofia opened her arms, hugging him once, then pulling him in for another. He giggled and wrapped his arms around her waist, holding on tightly.
"I'm Sofia," she said as she straightened, her tone as bright as her smile. "Clara's sister. And what's your name?"
With his small chest puffed out, he announced proudly, "Axiel Ashford!"
"Well, Axiel Ashford," she grinned, "shall we go meet some giraffes?"
