Closing the roof top door while cradleding my aching head I sit down, ignoring the angry phantom who accused me of not being human.
"Answer me damn it! Why are you naked and what were you doing on the roof!"
Grimacing at the noise I responded nonetheless." I'm a long term patient, and clothing got in the way of my care. I had a nice blinket… but a giant Mantis chased me out the window before I could think to grab it. You know a real monster. Not wanting to face it again I climbed to the roof and you let me in. Thank you for that."
She huffs and walks down the stairs." I'm going to check on the lower door. We need to try and be quiet or that mantis might find us."
Ignoring her I glance at the page I ripped from my parisite booking thing. It's ageing quickly turning into powder. Pulling open the book itself I if find it's gradually regrowing the page ripped.
"How'd you do that?"
I flinch as the ghost girl speaks from just beside me.
"I thought you were checking on the door, and what do you mean?"
"The door is fine, and I'm asking about the page you ripped out. I can't even fold the paper in mine but you can rip out pages from yours?"
"Why are you see though, also what's your name?" I try changing the subject feeling oddly pressed.
She gets visibly upset at not receiving her answers but holds out her hand anyway." People call me Ghost, I was suffering from phase instability before this. Though my book say I have the trait Phaze Frame, so I'm permanently stuck like this now.
Ghost gestures vaguely at herself. She's made of a slightly red light, stands 5 ish feet tall, with really long uncept hair and a very thin build that screams she hasn't been eating regularly.
Without thinking I try poking her, my hand touches nothing yet I still get slapped for my transgressions.
"Too answer your unasked question. I have the ability to harden things apparently. It lets me touch things at will now and I hope it'll let me eat more regularly too."
I rub my sore cheek." Sorry. I'm not really thinking straight. Why are you hiding up here if nothing can touch you?"
Ghost grimaces" some of the… Mutants, have abilities as well. Despite what ever is happening with my body now, electricity still hurts me."
That makes sense, I remember my brother reading me an article on how shock tharapy was used to temporarily solidify people suffering from phaze instability.
I look at my left hand, specifically the seam joining it to my arm. Maybe it's the concussion, but with barely a thought I stop what ever is holding the two parts of me together.
"FUCK!" Ghost stumbles backwards in fright partially phasing through the wall.
I 'walk' my hand around like it's a spider. Is this my ability then? Splitting apart my body and putting it back together again? No didn't I triger it when I ripped out the page from my parisite?
"That's so creepy. How are you doing that?" Ghost repositions herself farther away without slipping into the wall while look at me with a morbid curiosity.
" I think it my ability? But that doesn't feel completely right…this feels to… i don't know simple for something named cleave."
" Have you tried actually cutting something? That what cleave means after all, idiot."
"I don't have a knife to test that, what about you?"
" I'll go find one don't let anyone in while I'm gone." Ghost walks off down the stairs with a huff. While I try getting a better grasp of the strange energy flowing through me.
-
Three hours later Ghost comes back up the stairs carrying a basic pocket knife and a pair of shorts. Her hands are solidified into a dull red material that reminds me of jelly and a tired look has painted itself on her face." Here, take 'em ."
I do so after putting my hand back on, while trying not to think too much about ware these short probably came from." Thank you. I guess I'll just try cutting into the wall?" I look back at her for some sort of feed back but only get a glar.
"Sigh"Picking up the blade I try cutting into the wall.Clunk. That didn't work, separating and reconnecting my body parts was so easy, as if my body perfectly obeys my desires and conducts the strange energy inside me. But I just can't seem to push this energy into the knife, like there some hard limit or divide between me and it? It's not a part of me. But what if it was?
Before thinking my idea through I stab my left arm coating the edge with my own blood! Ghost curses something silently to herself, but I pay her no heed as I focus on the blades edge.
My concussion isn't making this easy, nore the panic I can't fully feel right now, or the pain! Yet I can feel the energy within me flowing through my blood, even if it's ignoring the knife.
Unsheathing the blade from my left arm I still feel the energy jumping into the blood covering it edge. So once more I try Cleaving into the wall. SHUNK.
"Holy, it's suck right into the wood. Is it stuck in the wall?" Ghost quickly rushes over as I stumble back suddenly feeling very tired as I've exaghsted most all the Force inside me.
"I'm gonna lay down for a bit Ghost."
THUNK, Thunk, thunk.
-
"Huh? You cannot just passout kid! You have to explain how you did this." The knife I worked so hard to get and carry up here is now soundly stuck inside the wall having hit a support beam. While Fragment has quite literally fallen to pieces, seamingly from exhaustion?" Dumb kid is gonna get me killed!"…of course as I glance at the knife now stuck inside the wall, I'm starting to think he might be quite useful. Worst cast he can carry around my supplies as a pack mule. That'll at least save me the headache of keeping my body solid for hours on end. But maybe he can be a soldier as well and fight the monsters? what does it matter if he's small and thin when one cut can take off a whole limb?
Of course I don't really have to choose now do I? Smiling while plotting how to best use my new companion I start dragging him pice by pice into the corner. Worst case he'll make a good distraction while I run past Saint Malady to freedom.
