Chapter 35: Something Big Happened
The launch of the Blut Arterie could only be described as a complete success.
Anyone could see the terrifying potential of this new technique.
Just imagine it—a three-man cell in formation.
A ninja in a Blut Vene stands at the front, serving as an indestructible shield, enduring every assault head-on.
A ninja in a Blut Arterie stands at the rear, hurling massive fireballs and devastating jutsu without pause.
And between them, a medical ninja stands ready to restore their strength in an instant.
What kind of battlefield would that be?
Even if a Blut Vene lost control and self-destructed alongside their team, the sheer force of a Blut Arterie detonation would wipe out entire platoons.
A Blut Vene had unmatched defense and vitality.
A Blut Arterie, unmatched offense.
And together—with a healer maintaining them—they formed an unstoppable trinity.
If this continued, what village could possibly stand against Konoha?
The shinobi world had changed that day.
But while the village buzzed with celebration, six people sat in tense silence within the Hokage's office: the Third Hokage, the Three Legendary Sannin, Aizen Sosuke, and Hatake Kakashi.
Each wore a different expression.
Jiraiya's gaze shifted between Aizen's gentle smile and Kakashi's indifferent calm. Finally, he sighed deeply, lowered himself to one knee before the Hokage, and spoke solemnly.
"I hope, teacher… that you'll seal away the Blut Arterie technique."
The Third Hokage's eyes narrowed. "Give me your reason, Jiraiya."
"Because natural energy is far too dangerous," Jiraiya said quietly.
He shot a brief, pitying glance toward Kakashi—who seemed unimpressed—and then turned back to his mentor.
"The three great sanctuaries—the Mount Myoboku, Ryuchi Cave, and Shikkotsu Forest—don't monopolize Sage Mode out of greed. They guard it because it's lethal. Mishandling natural energy turns a person into stone… or worse. Only those sacred places can balance that power."
He clenched his fist.
"This so-called Blut Arterie is nothing more than an unstable imitation. A crude Sage Mode that gambles with the user's life. It's advanced—brilliant, even—but it's also reckless. Using it so casually is courting disaster."
Then his anger turned. He jabbed a finger toward Aizen.
"And you, Sosuke! How dare you let a child experiment with something like this?! I really misjudged you! Do you think being clever gives you the right to endanger him?!"
"…"
A heavy silence followed Jiraiya's outburst.
Tsunade stared blankly out the window, expression unreadable. Orochimaru looked away, smirking faintly.
Kakashi merely rolled his eyes in quiet irritation.
The one thing he hated most was being judged by his age.
He had risked his life, mastered the theory, and succeeded—yet they treated his achievement as childish recklessness.
Aizen stood slowly, adjusting his glasses before the Hokage could even respond.
"Please, Jiraiya-kun," he said calmly. "Be patient. I have my reasons."
That same composed smile remained on his face—polite, persuasive, and yet unreadable. His gentle tone disarmed the tension, diffusing Jiraiya's anger before it could rise again.
"As you know," Aizen began, "the Blut Vene is a defensive technique that uses chakra nodes and the circulatory system to create a fluid shield by harmonizing chakra flow throughout the meridian network."
He spoke evenly, his voice filling the office like the steady hum of a lecture hall.
"This method enhances vitality and endurance to extraordinary levels. But to me, its greatest discovery isn't defense—it's the revelation that blood and chakra can be made to interact seamlessly. In other words, the system can operate autonomously."
He raised a hand, emphasizing the point.
"So then I wondered—if a Blut Vene can function perfectly within the body, what happens when we introduce external energy into the system? Could it enhance the user further? Could it let someone exceed their natural limits, even for a brief moment?"
His tone softened. "And that's when I found it."
The room went quiet.
Tsunade, who had seemed distracted moments ago, now looked intrigued. Her eyes sharpened as she listened to Aizen's explanation.
Orochimaru, meanwhile, leaned forward ever so slightly—his golden eyes gleaming with curiosity, fascination, and barely restrained hunger.
Aizen ignored them both. His gaze shifted instead to the Hokage.
The Third Hokage gave a silent nod.
Aizen pushed his glasses again, continuing in the same composed tone.
"The Ren meridian begins below the lips and runs down to the lower abdomen. The Du meridian runs from the back of the thighs to the crown of the head. Together, they form the body's two primary channels, maintaining balance in chakra circulation."
He placed his hands behind his back as he spoke, his voice calm and authoritative.
"My research—based on the Eight Gates Formation—focused on the twenty-four chakra convergence points within the body. Using the heart and vascular network as the foundation, I developed a prototype defensive technique: the Blood Stasis Armor."
Tsunade's eyes flickered slightly at the term, but she said nothing.
"From there," Aizen continued, "I connected twelve of the main chakra points along the front and back of the body. Through a specially refined liquid medium, these points can synchronize one-to-one, allowing the chakra to circulate continuously along a predetermined path in harmony with external energy."
"This isn't the result of experience or common sense," Aizen said calmly. "It's the product of meticulous research—bold hypotheses, careful experimentation, and verified results. The Blut Arterie operates systematically. As long as blood flows through the veins, the user's chakra will automatically circulate, absorbing external natural energy, transforming it within the body, and releasing it as its own power."
He adjusted his glasses and added casually, "I'll keep the explanation brief. For more technical details, you can refer to the research paper I left in the library archives."
Even that short explanation was enough to make Jiraiya's head spin.
He tried to follow, but his temples throbbed just listening to Aizen's endless string of terms and theories. In truth, Jiraiya didn't understand any of it. The only reason he could use Sage Mode was thanks to the two Great Sages of Mount Myoboku guiding him directly.
So when faced with Aizen's scholar-like enthusiasm, Jiraiya waved his hand hurriedly, visibly overwhelmed. If this kept up, his "borrowed" Sage Mode might actually give out from the headache alone.
"I don't care about your theories," Jiraiya interrupted, exasperated. "Just tell me why you let Kakashi do something so dangerous!"
"Danger?" Aizen blinked, genuinely puzzled. "Where's the danger? Everything was well within safety limits."
He gave Jiraiya a patient look, as though addressing an anxious student.
"The reason for shock resistance," he continued, "is to maintain the delicate balance between the twenty-four key chakra points in the body. If any are disrupted or damaged, the Blut Arterie will automatically shut down to prevent harm."
He raised a finger to emphasize his point.
"In other words, even if something goes wrong, the system will simply deactivate without negative effects."
Then his tone grew analytical again. "Of course, this method isn't as potent as transforming the entire body into pure Senjutsu Chakra. Roughly half to three-quarters of the chakra is used to assimilate the absorbed natural energy, creating a secondary internal circulation—isolated from the main flow by stabilizing agents."
He smiled faintly. "If Sage Mode represents a power level of one hundred, then the Blut Arterie operates at roughly fifty to twenty-five. Safer, more controlled. In emergencies, the user can override the limit, temporarily pushing toward full fusion. But that depends entirely on their self-control."
Aizen folded his hands neatly. "No matter how you evaluate it, every safety standard was followed. And for the record—this safety system was designed by Kakashi-kun himself. I had no reason to object."
"Ha?" Jiraiya's eyes widened in disbelief. His voice rose. "You let a seven-year-old handle something like that? What does a child know about safety systems?!"
Kakashi's temple twitched.
What do you mean 'a child'?
His jaw tightened, and veins pulsed on his forehead as he glared at Jiraiya. Every word from the so-called Hero of the Sannin made him want to slap the man senseless.
You think I can't understand my own work?
The Blut Arterie wasn't just Aizen's creation—it was his. Aizen provided the theory and the resources, but the entire system design, stabilization model, and test parameters were his personal work.
But before he could speak, the office door burst open.
A Konoha ninja stumbled in, his uniform half-charred, breathing hard.
"Sandaime-sama! Urgent news!"
Everyone turned sharply.
The man—an ANBU by his attire—fell to one knee, sweat dripping from his chin as he gasped for air. His face was pale with panic.
"The reference archives… all of Advisor Aizen Sosuke's research records—every copy, every rubbing—have been stolen from the library!"
The room fell silent.
He swallowed hard and continued, trembling. "The ANBU Center has also been attacked! At least thirteen ninjas have defected from the village at the same time! What are your orders, Sandaime-sama?!"
For a long moment, no one spoke.
The Third Hokage's expression turned to stone.
He knew Aizen's procedures—knew them well. By protocol, one copy of each document was stored in the Hokage's vault, and a second, redacted version in the library, both protected by separate task forces. The library copies were bait, carefully watched by Danzo's Root operatives to lure enemy spies.
But now both sets were gone.
The implications hit him immediately.
"Where's Danzo?" he demanded. "Bring him to me—now!"
Aizen's voice interrupted quietly.
"Sandaime-sama."
The calmness in his tone only made the tension in the room heavier.
"Due to your earlier policy decisions regarding the Land of Rain," he said mildly, "I personally led Danzo and his Root division there last night for negotiations."
He paused, lowering his voice slightly. "As you're aware… the Rain Defense Line was left unguarded."
"…What?"
The Hokage's face drained of color.
The Rain Line had already been withdrawn—but not completely abandoned. Every village knew leaving it undefended would invite disaster.
Danzo had hidden his movements, traveling under the cover of night, unseen. But clearly, the enemy had anticipated this.
They'd gambled—and won.
Sarutobi Hiruzen clenched his pipe, his hands trembling slightly.
Because of a single decision, Konoha's entire strategic advantage—its technology, its future—had been stolen.
The theories of the Blut Arterie and Blut Vene… everything.
Konoha's supremacy was gone.
