Chapter 568 - Chapter 568: The New Department

With Tver's assurance, the Secretary-General was already close to falling into beautiful fantasies about the future.

This new department would not actually be very different from the United Nations' usual work. It would simply shift communication from between countries to between countries and wizards.

From that perspective, one could even say it was an upgrade.

A department within the United Nations would actually have a wider scope of jurisdiction than the United Nations itself.

That alone was enough to make the Secretary-General beam.

Not to mention, Tver had repeatedly assured him that as long as peace between wizards and Muggles could be guaranteed, the Wizards' Confederation would fully support his work.

That meant the Secretary-General would have an incredibly solid backer from now on. As long as all-out war did not break out between wizards and Muggles, this new department would be exceptionally secure.

So after the brief afternoon tea, the Secretary-General could not wait to raise the proposal at the conference table.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Fawley believes that as exchanges between both sides increase, some less serious conflicts may also increase along with them."

He stood there, his face glowing, and for the first time swept his gaze across the ambassadors present with such confidence.

"After private discussion, Mr. Fawley, Mr. Babajide, and I all believe that the United Nations should establish a dedicated body to handle these minor disputes."

"What do you think?"

He said it as a question, but from the calm, composed looks on Tver and Babajide's faces, everyone knew this was the Wizards' Confederation's position.

After a little thought, however, they could not find any reason to refuse.

The jurisdiction of the Joint Operations Office was in the hands of the wizards, but the United Nations was made up of member states like them.

Although this new department would still mainly follow the wizards' opinions, their say within it would be stronger than in the Joint Operations Office no matter what.

The only problem was that these countries were not united, and would never be united.

As a result, even in a new United Nations department, once their authority was divided, any single country's voice against the magic world would never be very loud.

Simply put, they were worried the wizards would use this department to bully certain countries.

Just as they themselves bullied weaker countries.

"The new department will focus mainly on cooperation between both sides in fields such as economics, culture, and medicine."

Tver seemed to have seen through their concerns. Of course, this was also part of his private agenda in establishing this department, so he still had to offer them a little sweetness.

"In other words, including the little wallet you just saw, after review by this department, you will be able to purchase some products from the magic world through normal trade channels."

"Hey, is it really all right to bring out something illegal like that?" Babajide whispered.

The Wizards' Confederation only dealt with The Statute of Secrecy, so he did not particularly care about Tver's little wallet. After all, what wizard had not broken some minor law?

But this department would clearly require the participation of the Ministries of Magic of various countries. Putting this kind of illegal matter out in the open made it seem rather brazen.

"I'm just bluffing these people who don't understand magic. When the time comes, we can bring the Ministry of Magic out, and naturally everything will be fine," Tver said casually, brushing it off as if the law meant nothing to him.

How such minor violations were handled depended on the attitude of each country's Ministry of Magic to begin with.

And with the Professor's help, the European Ministries of Magic had a fairly good impression of Tver. The British Ministry of Magic was even under his control. At worst, he could simply hand this trade over to Britain.

Besides…

The moment he finished speaking, the ambassadors present immediately erupted.

Aside from a few offices that had provided some potions under Tver's instructions, most countries were in a state of having heard of magical products but never actually seen them.

The Aurors in the offices often discussed things like Quidditch, Broomsticks, and protective robes without any restraint.

Although they did not know the exact mechanisms, or whether there were any side effects, the miraculous effects of magic had been proven countless times already.

Especially when disasters happened, Aurors would use many kinds of potions, and the effects made these countries practically drool with envy.

But because of The Statute of Secrecy, even though the Ministries of Magic of various countries allowed Aurors to use potions on Muggles in emergencies, there were still many restrictions.

And now, they could finally buy potions openly.

If they could crack the ingredients of those potions and use technology to mass-produce and sell them, they would absolutely earn a vast fortune large enough to become a pillar of the nation.

The more they thought about it, the more eager the ambassadors became. The ambassadors from countries with strong technological capabilities in particular felt almost dizzy from the news. They could hardly stay seated and wanted nothing more than to report back to their countries at once.

As for whether magic could actually be researched and reproduced through technology, even Tver himself did not know.

However, the person present who was most overwhelmed, or rather, the most excited, was probably the Secretary-General.

Seeing the atmosphere grow heated and his goal achieved, Tver was just about to urge the Secretary-General to strike while the iron was hot.

But when he glanced over, the old man's smile had nearly twisted out of shape. His mouth was stretched wide, as if the corners were about to tear, and there was even a glistening trace hanging there.

Thinking about it, that made sense. As the future leader of this new department, although his days clearly would not become easier, there would definitely be no shortage of countries trying to curry favor with him.

The stronger a country's technological capabilities, the more it would need to build a good relationship with him.

In that case, for him, a former serf who had finally turned things around, this was no longer just becoming the master. He was going straight to becoming emperor.

Tver could only cough twice to remind him to restrain himself a little.

"Ahem, my apologies." With the reminder from his future backer, the Secretary-General finally calmed down somewhat.

"Judging from your expressions, it seems no one has any objection to the establishment of this new department?" He could not help grinning again, looking extremely punchable.

"If no one has any objections, then the United Nations Wizardry Administration will officially be included in this resolution."

United Nations agencies were not so simple to establish. If they were not set up properly, some member states could interfere under all sorts of pretexts.

So naming it the Wizardry Administration would strengthen the personal authority and responsibility of its leader, avoiding interference from both inside and outside the United Nations.

The ambassadors present were somewhat dissatisfied with the name, but compared with the possible benefits, they could only suppress that dissatisfaction.

"Excuse me, I have some questions I would like answered."
