Chapter 322: The Roger Pirates
Sea Circle Calendar, Year 1484 · New World Waters
Above the azure sea, Garp's warship and the Oro Jackson faced each other from afar, the atmosphere freezing in an instant.
The sea breeze howled. Although the war drums had not yet sounded, one could already feel the oppressive tension of their impending collision.
Roy's gaze locked tightly onto the giant red-sailed ship in the distance, a gleam of excitement flashing in his eyes.
Garp walked up to his side and laughed widely, his chest rumbling like a war drum:
"Haha! You see that?! That is the Roger Pirates, currently running rampant across the seas! They aren't some petty thieves playing house!"
Roy smiled faintly, his tone carrying a profound meaning: "I am quite aware of the Roger Pirates, Vice Admiral Garp."
"Hmph!" Garp snorted, waving his large hand.
Marine soldiers had already brought over entire crates of cannonballs, piling them up on the deck.
Garp casually grabbed one. Veins bulged on his arm as Armament Haki coated the pitch-black cannonball like a rushing torrent.
"Since we ran into them, let's give them a proper greeting! HAHAHA—!!!"
Just as Garp and Roy were talking, the Oro Jackson in the distance also spotted Garp's warship!
On the deck, the man wearing a straw hat suddenly looked up.
Under the blazing sun, his gaze was as sharp as a falcon's, piercing through the wind and waves to stare straight at Garp, who was raising a cannonball in the distance.
"Hey, hey, hey... that silhouette over there, isn't that Garp?!!"
As he spoke, a bold and heroic smile curled on Roger's lips, yet his palm had already come to rest upon the hilt of his sword, Ace, at his waist.
Beside him, a young Rayleigh gently pushed up the glasses on the bridge of his nose, his blond hair shining in the sunlight.
His line of sight bypassed Garp and landed on Roy standing beside him, his gaze abruptly sharpening.
"This time... he brought a rookie along?"
His tone carried a trace of gravity: "That guy looks... very dangerous..."
Saying this, Rayleigh suddenly frowned tightly, clutching his lower back.
"Strange... why is it that as soon as I look at him, my back starts aching terribly...?"
Roger froze for a moment before bursting into loud laughter: "Rayleigh, how old are you? Still getting backaches?! Did you drink too much last night?!"
Beside them, Scopper Gaban, resting his twin axes on his shoulders, grinned and added insult to injury: "I say, Rayleigh, you lightweight, maybe you should drink less with Roger from now on? Haha!!!"
Rayleigh's face darkened: "Idiots... that's not the reason."
Right at this moment—
"WHOOSH!!!"
Garp's cannonball had already arrived!
The blazing black cannonball tore through the sky, carrying a terrifying Haki pressure as it blasted straight for the deck!
Roger's Observation Haki had long since locked onto it. His eyes lit up, and Ace was abruptly unsheathed, accompanied by surging Haki.
"SWISH!!!"
A crimson sword energy broke through the air, violently slashing the cannonball!
"RUMBLE—!!!"
An earth-shattering explosion detonated in mid-air. The firelight illuminated the sea surface, and the shockwave kicked up monstrous giant waves that roared like angry dragons.
The hair and clothes of the people on both decks were blown wildly, snapping in the fierce wind!
From afar, Garp's wild laughter resonated across the sea and sky: "Roger!! You aren't getting away this time!!!"
At the warship's bow, Roy stood beside Garp, quietly staring at the crew on the Oro Jackson.
His gaze swept past Roger, pausing slightly on Rayleigh, a profoundly meaningful smile hooking the corner of his lips:
"Heh... as expected of the First Mate, to be able to sense the danger at a single glance?"
The next second, Garp shouted loudly: "Roy! Come with me!!!"
"SWISH!"
Garp used Geppo (Moonwalk) to shatter the air, his figure transforming into a cannonball as he violently lunged toward the Oro Jackson!
Roy chuckled softly. His figure flashed, teleporting right beside Garp: "Gladly."
Two figures—one using iron fists, the other teleportation—charged together toward the legendary ship!
"ROGER!!!"
Garp laughed wildly at the sky. His iron fist fell like a meteor, Haki sweeping out!
"GARP!!!"
Roger's battle intent was equally soaring. Ace was instantly coated in Conqueror's Haki, the blade as crimson as a blazing sun as it howled and slashed down!
"ARAMITAMA (WILD SOUL)!!!"
"Fist Bone: METEOR!!!"
"CLANG—!!!"
Sword and fist collided head-on, the black lightning erupting from their Haki blasting through the clouds!
The sky instantly split open, the cloud layer violently scattered and churned, as if the firmament itself was going to collapse!
Garp's eyes spewed fire, his iron fist fiercely punching Roger right in the face, his wild laughter shattering eardrums: "Roger! I'm definitely throwing you into Impel Down today!!!"
The corner of Roger's mouth was knocked askew, yet he remained stubborn: "In your dreams!!!"
At the same time, Rayleigh lightly tapped his toes, his figure transforming into a fierce wind. His rapier flashed with cold light, thrusting toward Roy's heart like a viper striking.
"Marine rookie... state your name!"
The blade closed in on his chest, but Roy unhurriedly leaned sideways to avoid it.
His fingertips flashing with pitch-black Armament Haki, he delivered a light flick—
"CLINK!"
With a crisp sound, the sword tip abruptly deflected, air currents exploding outward.
Rayleigh's eyes shrank sharply, his heart shaken: "Armament Haki of this level?!!"
The corners of Roy's mouth lifted slightly, his tone calm: "Roy, Marine Headquarters Rear Admiral."
"Hey! Don't ignore me!!"
A furious roar abruptly struck from the flank. Scopper Gaban's twin giant axes chopped down like thunder, the force as heavy and fierce as a collapsing mountain or a tsunami!
"BANG!!!"
However, the moment the axe blades broke through the air, Roy's figure had already quietly vanished.
"SWISH!"
When he reappeared, he was standing steadily behind Gaban. His breathing remained unruffled, his tone calm:
"Your speed... is too slow."
Gaban's pupils shrank sharply, sweat rolling down his forehead: "What?! A teleportation ability?!"
—In the sky above the Oro Jackson, the battle had thoroughly reached a white-hot phase!
Garp's iron fists and Roger's sword energy clashed madly. Every strike triggered heaven-shaking tremors, rocking the hull violently and cracking the wooden planks on the deck inch by inch!
Roy, meanwhile, traded blows with Rayleigh and Gaban. Though seemingly besieged by the two, his footwork remained relaxed and composed.
Every parry and evasion was executed just right—neither overly flashy nor revealing his true depths, yet radiating an unfathomable reserve of strength.
"Before the God Valley Incident, everything must be maintained on the correct timeline."
Roy calculated secretly in his heart, yet his gaze calmly swept over the members of the Roger Pirates fighting against the Marine elites led by Bogard, etching their combat habits into his mind one by one.
"BOOM!!!"
Roger and Garp clashed head-on once again, the exchange of fist and sword erupting with a massive sound capable of tearing heaven and earth apart!
The aftershocks of the surging Haki instantly tore through the deck. Wood chips flew everywhere, and the entire Oro Jackson swayed violently, looking as if it could be cleaved in half at any moment.
Roger used the recoil to retreat. His toes tapped heavily onto the shattered deck, his figure landing steadily.
"Garp! That's it for today! Haha, I'll keep you company for a satisfying fight next time!!!"
Before his voice even faded, he fiercely raised his arm high! "SET SAIL— DEPART!!!"
"WHOOSH—!"
The winds swept and clouds surged. The giant red sails instantly billowed full.
The Oro Jackson violently broke through the sea surface. Like an arrow loosed from its bowstring, it kicked up monstrous waves and rapidly disappeared into the horizon.
The sea breeze howled, leaving behind only the still-churning waves and lingering echoes on the battlefield.
Garp hovered in mid-air using Geppo. His fists were still smoking with black Haki. Clenching his jaw, a vein popped fiercely on his forehead, his tone full of frustration:
"Tsk!! They ran away again, goddammit!!!"
He swung his fist heavily, the airwave shaking the sea surface to splash up another curtain of water.
Roy slowly landed back on the warship. Standing at the front of the deck, he watched the departing Oro Jackson, his gaze profound.
"The next time we meet... will be at God Valley."
The sea breeze brushed past the corner of his eyes. He slightly turned his head, looking at the still high-spirited Garp beside him.
That Iron Fist hero still had a face full of battle intent, as if the fierce battle just now had merely been a small warm-up.
Roy couldn't help but let out a light chuckle, though a trace of helplessness lay in his eyes: "They really are the best of frenemies...
If he had just said the word, I could have made them stay, yet he deliberately said nothing."
"However—"
He raised his eyes to look at the red sails drifting further and further away in the distance, a teasing arc hooking the corner of his lips.
"The old man Garp back in the day... really was capable of forcibly chasing down and beating up Roger's entire crew all by himself."
