Groaning lightly, her eyes fluttered open as she slowly adjusted to her surroundings. The slightest movement of her head sent a sharp pain shooting through her skull. It was so intense that she had to shut her eyes again and take a few calming breaths.
The pain subsided a few minutes later, allowing her to open her eyes once more.
Cautiously, she pushed herself upright, resting her back against the headboard.
It was then that she realized she was back in her chambers at the Viscount's household.
Trying to recall what had happened last night was impossible. Every attempt sent another wave of pain through her head, making it feel as though her skull would split open.
Falling asleep in the cell was the last thing she remembered.
