Zane swallowed hard. "What are you saying? You… accept my feelings?"
"Yes! Obviously!" Nathan said, then lowered his voice, embarrassed, looking around to make sure they were alone.
Zane still stared in disbelief. His heart seemed to stop beating at that moment.
"Well, I thought you didn't like it. I was afraid I might ruin our friendship," Zane admitted.
Nathan took a deep breath. He had been thinking all night and couldn't sleep, while Zane was thinking about his answer. He didn't know that the boy had been waiting for his reply.
"Sorry, I didn't say it yesterday because I was… I was processing! But we're together now. Which means," Nathan pointed a stern finger at the cigarettes, "don't smoke anymore! Not at all! I'm not letting you ruin your lungs even more. I will not allow it, okay? I will be an asshole for you."
