Chapter 97 - The return to academy

I replied, Oh, it's okay. Alas, I need a reason myself to run from such a suffocating environment.

She replied with a question:

[Are you sure you want to do this? You don't feel right.]

I swallowed the saliva in my mouth, silently standing without making a sound. Yet my legs had gone numb, and a sharp headache hit me out of nowhere. But thanks to God, it didn't last even half a minute.

As I moved through the cave, I noticed Mira, Eron, and Elara had fallen asleep. Lysandria seemed to be lost in deep thought, looking disturbed by something.

As I walked toward the cave's exit, my hand was grabbed by someone.

Lysandria spoke, "Where are you going?" her grip still firm on my hand.

I answered, "I have to go and see Nyx."

She loosened her grip, speaking in a calm, polite voice—like seeing a reincarnation of nature's empathy itself and says "I want to go with you".

Being Ryn, and only if I were the old Ryn, I never would have agreed. But her voice carried such empathy that defying her raised a feeling of guilt, as if I were stripping away her rights.

I nodded silently as she let go of my hand.

Curse Weaver's message came through again:

[Ryn, don't let her touch you again.]

I asked, So, who's jealous now and wants my attention?

Curse Weaver replied:

[see it alike it, but seriously, don't touch her.]

I nodded at Curse Weaver's message and said to Lysandria, "Be silent and try to be quick."

Together, we stepped out of the cave. The sun had fully risen, and as we prepared to dash, I felt the flow of mana surging inside me. I said to Lysandria, "Try to match my speed."

She chuckled. "I don't need to 'try.'"

With a swift dash, we both took off. Alas, it made a sound. Even though I was still angry and disappointed by their behavior, I still hoped their sleep wouldn't be disturbed by it.

Lost in my thoughts, I felt a hand reaching for my back. When I looked back, Lysandria had matched my speed. I increased my pace, yet her fingers brushed against my back.

She chuckled, murmuring something under her breath.

And alas, we reached the vicinity of the academy mountains—yet even from this distance, we could see dark clouds of fire and smoke rising into the sky.
