Chapter 76 - Chapter 76, Side Story 1: Feng Jin: "Is the World Sick?"

The Dreamland—the Night Curtain Court—is the most mysterious place on the Douluo Continent, accessible only to children under ten in their dreams.

Legend says a Cyclops sails across the Sea of Dreams to welcome visitors from the real world.

Every child who has visited the Night Curtain Court speaks of beautiful angels, pure white dragons, houses made of candy, and rivers flowing with milk and honey.

Countless powerful figures on the Douluo Continent have tried to forcefully open the gates to that strange land.

But without exception, none have succeeded; it seems to be a paradise for children, a haven of

  innocence and fantasy.

In the songs that circulate on the Douluo Continent,

the weaver slumbering behind the curtain, the one who holds the key to the threads of all things, the master who opened the unborn world and the creation of thought, the observer and incarnation of countless possibilities,

the Lord of Spirit, above all things, sits quietly in the center of the Night Curtain Court,

indifferent to the foolishness and folly of all living beings.

However, there was once a blasphemer—Anaxxramas—who sharply criticized the One Above All Things.

"Ha, the One Above All Things?"

"Nothing but a pathetic worm imprisoned by divinity and authority."

  "Ignoring all the continent's development?"

"Or perhaps his remaining humanity prevents him from understanding the changes in life."

No one heeded this madman's words, and many of the One Above All Things' followers wanted to put him on the barbecue grill.

However, he was rescued by Bai E of Shrek Academy and taken to Shrek City to continue his research.

No one knows whether this continent is developing for the better or for the worse.

For Soul Masters, this is the best of times; the Lord of Spirit illuminates the path of life's evolution, and everyone can vie for the legendary divine position.

For Soul Beasts, this is the greatest of times; the great One Above All Things unlocks the restrictions on life, spreading benevolence to those who flourish, run, soar, and swim.

But for a doctor, this was the worst of times.

Slaughter, weeping, plague, death, war, and madness infused the world with a chaotic undertone.

The deaths of patients, the cries of children, the desperate yearning to live—all numbed Feng Jin's heart.

  "When exactly was it?"

Feng Jin sat on a high platform, holding a white pony, gazing at the distant, broken sun.

That wasn't the real sun; it was the afterglow of a fallen god.

The real sun had long since vanished into history, vanished into dreams.

"Oh, it seems to be when I parted ways with Bai E and the others in Shrek City."

Feng Jin stroked the white pony's horn, her green starry eyes slightly clouded, the color of someone accustomed to tragedy.

It was a doctor's lament for the world.

"Bai'er told me he would change this world!"

"Tibo told me she would guide this world!!"

"Medemos told me he would protect this world!!!" "Naksia

told me he would enlighten this world!!!" "

But in the end, this world is still the same." "

This is a world hurtling headlong towards hell."

"The sun has been extinguished, and the stars have not welcomed a savior, but a tyrant."

  "The Lord of Spirits?"

  "Above all things?"

"If you truly exist, if you truly have eyes, why would you allow such a world to exist!"

"Is your heart truly, as Anaxagoras said, only filled with divinity?"

Feng Jin sat on the high platform, her once lustrous pink-to-blue twin tails long gone, leaving only a neat single ponytail.

She didn't know what this world would become; she was just a doctor, providing medical care to her patients.

Afterward, she followed in the footsteps of her former medical teacher, Roman, traveling across the continent. She

measured every inch of land with her own two feet, witnessing every tragic fate, every painful cry of a newborn.

Feng Jin didn't want to think; she only focused on treating every patient who came to her.

"Doctor, I'm in so much pain! Is there any hope for me?"

This was an ordinary person affected by alchemy, half of whose body had been petrified.

Feng Jin forced a cheerful smile and said, "Yes!"

"Doctor, it hurts so much, I want to die."

"Mom said people go to heaven after they die, is that true?"

This was a child infected with the plague.

Feng Jin said sadly, "It's true."

"Doctor, I can't see the light anymore, the dark world is so peaceful."

"Will I be able to see the light again?"

This was a pitiful person whose eyes had been blinded by a soul beast.

  Feng Jin said expressionlessly, "Yes."

Would it really be true? Feng Jin knew the answer better than any of them.

She often closed her eyes and recalled the cries of those children, each tone piercing her heart.

"If it were Dr. Roman, what would he do?"

Feng Jin often thought of her mentor, who always wore a smile.

She tried to imagine what he would do, but ultimately found she couldn't.

  She couldn't smile.

And so, the girl continued her travels across the continent, watching the afterglow of the divine realm, recalling the image of the sun.

The girl grew up, and her cultivation became unfathomable—a Limit Douluo? Or a Level 100 True God?

She herself wasn't sure; she only cared whether her patients were cured.

The world is a circle, and she eventually returned to her starting point—Shrek City.

In Shrek City, she often saw Bai E, formerly one of the Shrek Seven Devils and now the Lord of the Sea God Pavilion, rushing around on the Soul Guidance Screen.

He was still the same as before, a ray of sunshine, warming friends and burning enemies.

Sweeping away evil and driving away plagues, wanting to save this pitiful world.

Feng Jin put on her hood, her dim eyes no longer looking at Bai E on the screen.

"Bai E is still the same as before."

"But the world is sliding towards the abyss."

  "Heaven?"

  "Does it really exist?"

Feng Jin had asked many patients, and the answers were very consistent.

  "It exists!"

  "It doesn't exist!"

A voice came from beside Feng Jin. A man with a black eyepatch over his left eye, eyes that were a gradient of red and blue, and long light green hair tied in a low ponytail suddenly spoke.

  It was the blasphemer Anaxagoras.

"That's how humans are, they love to deceive themselves."

"Heaven doesn't exist, only hell disguised as a human world."

After bidding farewell to the blasphemer, the girl didn't linger in Shrek City. After much wandering, she returned to her hometown—Xiru City.

She saw the orphanage that had once been reduced to ruins.

Her mentor, Roman, was long gone.

Some said he followed the footsteps of those above all things to the deepest recesses of human consciousness.

Feng Jin knew her mentor's character; he loved humanity and wouldn't go to that depths of consciousness.

She sat in the ruins for a long time until night fell.

The stars were still the same, bright and clear. The broken divine realm hung in the sky like a courtyard, and the stars were potted plants.

Feng Jin seemed to understand something and said,

"People are sick, I can heal them, but what about the world?"

Feng Jin seemed to have thought of something and ran to the spot in the ruins where the infirmary had once been to begin digging.

Until she held a thick book in her hands and raised it into the air, as if gazing upon it.

The night breeze helped her open the book, which contained a technique for healing the world—the Humanity Incineration Technique.

This is just one side story; please read it for fun. It has no connection to the main plot; it's purely a parallel world. I'll write more later depending on the situation.
