Ruby's POV
I rushed out of the boutique, rage burning through my veins.
The whole thing had been a setup. A performance. I'd actually believed she wanted to reconnect with me, maybe even explain why she'd abandoned me all those years ago.
If she'd been genuine, I might have found it in my heart to forgive her. We could have built something real together.
Instead, she was still the same shallow, manipulative woman I'd first encountered. Nothing had changed except now I knew she was an expert liar. Almost as skilled as Bonnie at twisting the truth.
I should never have agreed to come shopping with her.
The sharp tap of expensive heels echoed behind me. She appeared in front of me, blocking my escape route.
"Where do you think you're going?" Her voice was breathless, panicked.
"Home." The word came out ice cold.
I moved to go around her, but her fingers clamped around my wrist.
