Synopsis
"It is what Humans do best: pursuing something. Even under the overarching Night, even through the vast rivers, Humans will always move along the world. That is what 'Way' is." - ___. Since birth, life has always vied for survival. To take that ambition further, beyond mere survival, is to pursue something greater. Humanity has lived under the star-riddled sky, having forever lived under scarce light; having wished to see and achieve something greater. And so, they pursued their 'greatness'. There are those who can shatter rock with their bare fists, slay beasts with mystical arts, oppose the natural forces of the world and battle with Spirits. There are those among them who can bend the world to their will, those who created the stars in the Starlit Sky, who now reside among the highest of peaks. There are those who embrace what they love, chase after it, embody it, and indulge in it. Among the myriads of Humans, though they may follow myriads of paths—highs and lows, stagnation, falls and abysses, and lofty heights—one commonhood is shared among all. A Way—the pursuit of Humanity.

Chapter 1 - Open | Golden Youth

("This is one of the many abridged iterations of a myth retelling a bygone era:")

"Ere Golden Youth's arrival, all was 'Night'.

For neither the Passage of Time, a Sense of Direction, nor Colours Beyond the Two Shades had existed.

Night's Sky was all-encompassing, all-dominating, all-oppressing.

And yet, life was present—in great nothingness—where the sky, the lands, and the Intruder gave birth to the first."

("The Intruder?"

"That will be another story.")

"The firstborn were odd lifeforms, unlike the plants which were born from seeds, and fed off of the three facets of life—mind, body, and soul—these new lifeforms were without the soul, hardly had the mind, and were almost entirely the body.

The positive and the negative came together, but they seemed to be missing the third facet.

Eve of Golden Youth's arrival, so forth came light:

He walked upon the soil and up the once-insurmountable mountains; neither cliffs nor valleys could impede his ascent. Upon reaching the height of the peaks, Golden Youth would find himself developing new feelings.

For his feet would continue, treading across the plateaus of North, never finding new grounds above, and as he searched, his light would reveal all; weary humans of old would be revealed, and ask this foreign light:

"Who are you?" "What are you doing?" "What is this...?"

Replying simply, Golden Youth spoke,

"I am a Star!"

"I am experiencing a 'vast stagnation' and a great impasse; I can not find the next step up. And now, I am feeling a little discomfort, but here I am, among the highs of plateaus, and led by the constant pull of finding something higher—I will walk forward!"

"And this... is my young body!"

As he said this, North's denizens revered and rejoiced.

Before he left, Golden Youth told one last thing:

"Those who stagnate allow trees of discontent to grow and ruin themselves. To cultivate is to harvest the weeds and produce fruits and flowers, even if the process is long and arduous. Do not let the roots ravage the lands, but allow one to become stable, instead."

Continuing: soon, Golden Youth found the plateaus too difficult to traverse; he fell into a river, which carried him into the seas of East, and ashore an isle: discovered by the lost, who asked:

"Who are you?" "What are you doing?" "What is this...?"

Replying with a voice without loss, Golden Youth spoke,

"I am a Star!"

"I lost my footing and fell a tall height, almost drowned as I was tossed around, and swam away to this piece of near-sunken land. But, here I am, near the very depths of this world, yet still looking upwards—I will swim away!"

"And this... is my light!"

As he said this, East's denizens praised and sang.

Before he left, Golden Youth spoke as such:

"Pick up these stones, for they will carry light; toss them in the otherwise lightless waters, between islands and isles, and even through the undulating ink, they will shimmer, and you will not be lost."

Continuing: soon, the Golden Youth would step into the waters and sink into the abyss, but he rose again, leaping off the surface and into the sky; there, the visage of people revealed themselves across a myriad skies: they asked:

"Who are you?" "What are you doing?" "What is this...?"

Replying with a vague tone, Golden Youth spoke,

"I am a Star!"

"I rose from the bottom and soared to this lofty expanse, returning from the lowest abyss, and reaching this place that can only be described as bland."

"And this... is my gold!"

As he said this, South's denizens hailed and cried.

Before he left, Golden Youth said one last thing:

"High above. That is where I aim to land. Not across this bleak expanse, nor the black stretch of Night, but beyond. I yearn for something otherworldly, the Third Facet! Watch as I divide black and white, and draw a new colour!"

Then, after highs and lows, stagnating and falling, then soaring once more, Golden Youth tried to reach beyond Night.

With a great 'Crack!', a flash of white struck the Golden Youth, and to the centre of the world he fell.

He would appear before the centre of the world, between the 'region of highs and lows' and the 'region of the abyss', between the 'region of stagnation' and the 'region of bleak heights'.

So forth, Golden Youth rose, a blinding light that flashed and quickly dissipated, had struck him again, and again, and again.

So, too, did Golden Youth return to the ground, over and over.

"This is what it means to be Human!"

He called, with a voice louder than the flashing light itself.

"For as long as I can move forward! For as long as faith is with me! For as long as I live!

"There is a Way!

"And it shall not be denied!"

Golden Youth roared, defiant against the flashing lights.

With the tip of his own finger, outstretched to the Heavens above, there, it was drawn..."

"The very first star?"

"Indeed. The very first star of the Starlit Sky. Poking through Night and revealing the light of the heavens."

A father, lifting his daughter, explained as he looked towards the sky.

"There are many iterations to this story. Some describe the Golden Youth to have been an ordinary boy who rose to Immortal status, some say that it was a Spirit of Heaven itself."

"What do you think, Father?"

"Hmm..."

The father grabbed his chin as he pondered, "I'd like to believe that he was just an ordinary boy from the west. What do you think of it?"

"I think so, too!" The girl giggled, beckoning to the father. "Can you point to his star?"

"Golden Youth's star? Hmm..." raising the tip of his finger to the sky above, the father led his daughter's gaze to a particularly bright star, "That is Golden Youth's Star."

Moving his finger, he pointed to another star,

"And that star is my very own."

"I can't tell which one you're pointing at..."

"...Just know that I have my own star, too, little Dawn. And soon, you will, too."

"Do you really think so?"
