It was known that World War III was inevitable, and if nuclear weapons were to be used during the war, it would be catastrophic, but it was after the war that it became clear that the consequences are not just catastrophic but far worse. By observing the aftermath of the war, it becomes evident how close humanity came to extinction.
The war lasted about 12 years, from 2034 to 2045. The exact trigger cannot be pinpointed, but it had a profound impact on the world in many ways. The U.N. does everything it can, but it was also unable to prevent the war.
The human population was decreased to five percent of its original number; that is, of the total 10 billion humans, only 500 million survived.
After World War III (2034-2045) among the nations of Earth, India, America, China, Africa, and Russia emerged as world powers, but it has to be considered what price they paid for their ambition, to just prove their superiority, that they stand above all. Treaties signed between nations changed the view of the whole world.
Many countries have been wiped out of the world, like Pakistan, Portugal, Los Angeles, Monaco, and many more. Small countries were assimilated into the nearby world powers. All the coastal areas were submerged in the ocean due to the increase in water level.
In the place of the old continent, new continents arose.
The newly arisen continents of the world were Hindvarthya, Huaxia Empire, Ameriork, Afropia, Soversia, and Austran.
Almost all of eastern and southern Asia, and some parts of Europe, became part of India, which now came to be known as Hindvarthya. Its population is almost 100 million and is now known as the largest continent in the world.
Northern Asia and Eastern Asia became part of China, which is now known as the Huaxia Empire. Its population is about 120 million and is considered the most populated continent.
North America and South America are together known as the Ameriork, connected by the naval support.
Africa made Europe its colony and established its capital in London; they are known as the Republic of Afropia.
Russia does not increase its known boundaries, but it has established itself as the sixth continent of the world, as Soversia.
Australia was renamed as the Austran.
Antarctica was divided and shared by the other continents for research purposes.
Many countries form groups among their neighbouring countries and do not come under the world powers, but they still have to maintain good relations with them. The Australian, now Austran, continent mostly remained neutral during World War III and only came on the stage during the later parts, due to which it was less damaged compared to other nations. Though it has a good relation with Afrope and Hindvarthya for supplies.
The islands of Japan were submerged in water due to tsunamis, and some main parts of the country were submerged under land due to earthquakes. They have to relocate their survivors to other countries. During the war, they were the ones to sustain the most damage. Most citizens were transferred to Australia, and some became part of the Huaxia Empire.
Old, known big cities and big skyscrapers were transformed into ruins. In their place, new structures started rising, not as big as the older but it is a start. New establishments were arranged by the government for its people.
This war had changed the geography of the world.

World War III didn't start with nuclear weapons; it came at a later part, but their use not only changed the world's geography but also impacted the Earth's environment. It was known that the ozone layer in the stratosphere was deteriorating, but due to nuclear radiation, it was 99% deteriorated as the war reached its end, and is almost gone. Climate change has become very unpredictable. Tsunamis and earthquakes were more common.
These are some of the known changes in the world, but many unknown changes have yet to be known to humanity.
It's like time was moving at 2x speed, in the morning it was raining, afternoon there were heat waves, and at night, snow was all around the city. There was no fixed pattern for the weather change. Most of the time sky was covered by a thick layer of greyish clouds.
As the war clouds started fading, nature started occupying every city that fell, spreading across the ruins of the old metropolitan city. New varieties of plants started growing, more resistant to radiation and adaptable to an ever-changing climate.
Human knows these changes, but they can't focus on them as they are trying to fix their own mess.
With the unanimous decision among the world powers, a new era started after the war, named the 'YUGADI' era, an era of peace, of a new beginning.
More than a century has passed since the war. The whole world map was changed after the war. New continents rose, some countries erased, many lives gone, but human knows one thing best: to move on, to adapt to their new reality.
New countries established new governments, and new governments made new laws. Empire rises. Polices were remade, and new treaties signed. Everyone is trying their best to make humanity flourish again.
New discoveries made, new inventions invented. The world has stepped into a new, futuristic, peaceful era, the Yugadi era.
But the peace does not last long. People didn't even know what threat/opportunity was coming their way.

A loud sound was heard all over the world, it's like the sky had fallen apart, or as thunder had struck just behind your ear.
It was so loud that every living being got stung for a few moments, like they were paralyzed, not knowing what was going on.
At the same time, a strange thing started happening all over the world.

A family of three (father, mother, and their boy) was having dinner when the sound was heard. As they were paralysed by the sound, a crack appeared underneath the father's chair, and a rift was opened which sucked the man inside it. He disappeared; to which where? Not known.

Two brothers were resting, tired from the mountain climbing, when the same thing happened to them, but this time it was the smaller brother who disappeared in the space rift.

In a gym, about thirty people were doing their workout when paralysis hit them; this time, 60% people disappeared.

A group of young women was watching an old entertainment TV show when two of their friends vanished into the rift.

In a college, some bullies were harassing a student for his small height, when one of the bullies disappeared.

In an old building, near the outskirts of the mountain city, two thugs were holding a teenage girl's hand, surrounded by small children, when a rift appeared and took the girl with it.

It was later made known that around a hundred thousand living beings had vanished that day. The day was named as Vicyuta day, a day when they disappeared or were lost.
Researchers did everything in their power to find out why and where these people had gone, but they couldn't find any sure answers.
Though in the process, they discovered a new type of energy present in the environment. Its presence started showing since the Vicyuta day, like it was present in the surroundings from the start, but till now it was invisible to us.
This energy was more potent than any other energy discovered to date. The term 'OJAS' was given to the newly discovered energy.
If this energy is used wisely, it can take humanity thousands of years ahead, but if it falls into the wrong hands, it can be much more destructive than nuclear energy.
