Chapter 79 - King of Thunder vs the Super-Ancient Duo

In a Black World —

At first, Ash had been hesitating.

He'd been trying to figure out how to stop Gengar with the least collateral damage.

And now a super-ancient Alakazam had shown up on top of that.

Yeah. No point hesitating anymore.

Two super-ancient Pokémon like that… even if Pikachu burned himself out, there was no guarantee they could be put down cleanly.

Worse—

Ash wasn't even sure he could suppress them both at the same time.

Against Ghost-types, his biggest advantages—raw physical power and Aura Sphere—were heavily restricted. In front of a Ghost-type, Ash really was at a disadvantage.

By now, the two ancient Pokémon were already fighting.

It was obvious they had some kind of old grudge. The instant they locked eyes, they went berserk.

Alakazam unleashed blinding psychic beams. Gengar answered with waves of dark energy.Psychic and Dark attacks collided over and over, and the shockwaves tore through the surrounding forest like a storm.

"Ash, what do we do?" Misty asked reflexively.

Ever since the Mewtwo incident, Ash had basically become a "can-do-anything Superman" in her mind. One punch making an entire island shake… what else could that be but superhuman?

So to Misty, there was no way Ash didn't have a plan.

"First, I call for backup," Ash said calmly. "Pikachu—if any stray blasts come our way, cancel them out with Thunderbolt!"

After giving the command, Ash took out a high-grade Poké Ball and closed his eyes.

At first, Misty and Brock didn't understand what he meant by "calling for backup."

But the moment they saw which ball he was holding, they understood immediately.

Ash was calling Mewtwo.

Over the past half-month, whenever he had downtime, Ash had kept in contact with Mewtwo—asking where he'd gone, what he'd seen, who he'd fought.

From Mewtwo, Ash learned that he'd been roaming across Kanto… and even asked whether there were any powerful Legendary Pokémon around.

The answer had been simple: the three Legendary birds—Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno.

So Mewtwo went hunting.

So far, he'd found exactly one Zapdos at a power plant…

…and beaten it senseless.

Afterward, he complained to Ash that fighting Zapdos was boring—and that he'd rather spar with Ash instead.

Ash genuinely didn't know how to respond.

Only Mewtwo would call beating a Legendary bird "boring."

Anyway—

Mewtwo was already roaming Kanto. His psychic power was absurd. As long as Ash called, Mewtwo could arrive in a very short time.

A moment later, Ash opened his eyes, batted away a stray bolt that Pikachu failed to catch, and told Brock, Misty, and the stunned newcomer nearby:

"Mewtwo's on his way. He'll be here in about five minutes. Until then, we need to keep these two under control."

"This isn't just raw power. Their fight is messing with the climate over all of Kanto… it's like super-ancient Pokémon carry some kind of special 'world influence.'"

He looked down at Pikachu.

"Pikachu—until Mewtwo arrives, we're counting on you."

As he spoke, Ash entered Aura Fusion with Pikachu.

Before Mewtwo arrived, they needed to buy time.

[Lance: Excuse me?? Mewtwo on call?? Say the word and he shows up in five minutes?!][Sabrina: Why not? Ash is someone Mewtwo acknowledges.][Sabrina: If a Trainer is in danger, what kind of Pokémon wouldn't come when called?][Norman: I understand the logic, but… seeing cold, ruthless Mewtwo from earlier clips—and then seeing this "Ash-first" Mewtwo—feels surreal.][Max: Yeah, totally!]

At Petalburg Gym, Norman snapped the moment he saw his son's username pop up.

"Max! Weren't you told not to talk in the livestream?"

Max stuck out his tongue and didn't answer.

He wasn't stupid—arguing now would only earn him a longer lecture.

Norman sighed. His son was usually obedient, but whenever Pokémon were involved, his curiosity exploded.

When the livestream first started, both his children had "speaking privileges." That surprised him too. After all, neither of them had even begun their journeys.

"…Forget it. Just be more careful next time," Norman said. "I'm not forbidding you to speak. But everyone else is a known Trainer. If a random kid keeps jumping in, people will laugh."

"Got it, Dad!" Max answered quickly.

Whether he truly got it was another story.

Next to him sat a girl quietly watching the screen.

Her name was May—Norman's other child, and another viewer with permission to speak.

Unlike Max, May was older and calmer. Her parents had told her not to post, so she didn't.

Still… she couldn't help being curious about the boy named Ash.

He looked only a little older than her, yet he was already so strong.

It would be nice if I could travel one day and meet him… maybe even be partners…

The one she was daydreaming about was White-World Ash—the Ash from the other timeline. After six months of traveling, he'd clearly grown a lot too.

In a Black World —

Just as Ash and Pikachu entered Aura Fusion, ready to forcibly suppress the two super-ancient Pokémon—

Jigglypuff glanced curiously toward the huge golden pendulum in the ruins nearby.

It felt like… something over there was calling to her.

But it was far too dangerous outside right now.

So she clung tighter to the blue-eyed boy she trusted.

Staying close to him felt safe.

"Rain Dance," Ash said.

The others: "???"

Wait—Rain Dance? Pikachu?!

Brock and Misty didn't even blink. The moment Pikachu began, they already understood what Ash was planning.

If it weren't for Ash's Aura barrier, they would've started running long ago.

As Pikachu danced, the already-dark sky thickened with storm clouds. The world dimmed. Heavy raindrops began to fall.

But the two super-ancient Pokémon didn't care.

They ignored the weather entirely, still trading attacks and carving up the land.

Ash raised an eyebrow.

The hardest part of the Thunder Kirin technique was positioning and timing. But these two weren't just ignoring him—

They weren't even looking in his direction.

Which meant the biggest drawback of using Kirin… had just vanished.

"Pikachu," Ash said, voice steady. "They're ignoring us."

"Pika!"

"If we don't show them some respect, it'll stain your title as the King of Thunder."

"Pika…?"

"Since when did you have a title? Since now. Get ready."

"Pika-pi!"

Golden lightning surged outward, turning the dark sky into a sea of crackling electricity.

This finally drew their attention.

Both super-ancient Pokémon sensed it immediately: the thunder above carried power that could threaten them.

"Huuh!"

"Gengaaa!"

Alakazam and Gengar turned at the same time toward the source.

And saw—

A tiny Pikachu…

…and a skinny-looking human beside him.

Their wariness faded almost instantly.

These two? What threat could they possibly be?

They regretted that thought a second later.

The golden lightning in the sky twisted—its color deepening into a brilliant, piercing blue.

Azure bolts churned in the storm clouds like a living beast.

Pikachu raised a paw, and the thunder above seemed pulled by invisible strings, gathering into a single point.

In the next instant—

The Kirin appeared.

A colossal unicorn made entirely of blue lightning formed before their eyes.

With the Light Ball's boost, and all the training Pikachu had endured, he no longer needed a pre-made electric terrain to summon Thunder Kirin.

And this Kirin—

Was several times stronger than the one he'd used before.

"It's time you paid for underestimating us," Ash said softly.

"In the roar of thunder—vanish."

Ash brought his hand down, and Pikachu mirrored the motion perfectly.

The thunder unicorn lunged forward, jaws opening wide.

Alakazam and Gengar snapped out of their shock at the last second.

They unleashed their strongest attacks.

"Psychic!"

"Shadow Ball!"

Alakazam's Psychic slammed into the Kirin, trying to pin it in place.Gengar fired enormous Shadow Balls, one after another, into the thunder beast's core.

But—

The Psychic hold shattered within seconds.

And the Shadow Balls only dimmed the Kirin's glow slightly.

By then, the Kirin was already upon them.

Its target was clear.

It charged straight at Gengar.

The Kirin's jaws clamped down on Gengar's body—then flared brighter.

And then—

It exploded.

A terrifying blue shockwave surged outward.

At this rate, it would flatten the entire mountain.

The next moment, time itself seemed to slow.

The expanding ring of blue energy froze—

Then began compressing inward.

At the same time, a familiar voice echoed in everyone's minds.

Been a while.

You say there are two super-ancient Pokémon about to destroy the world, I rush over… and the first thing I see is Pikachu almost destroying a mountain.

[Gary: Mewtwo's here! That didn't even take five minutes!][Diantha: I checked the time. Barely over three minutes. When he said "five," he was being conservative.][Volkner: If Mewtwo hadn't shown up, that Kirin would've leveled the whole mountain. The destructive power is insane.][Koga: Compared to when he used it on me… this is several times stronger.][Cynthia: And that's the problem. It's too big. This move can't be used safely in a normal stadium battle at all.][Ash: But it's really cool!][Volkner: Cool as hell. I recorded it. I'm going to see if my Raichu can learn something similar.][Steven Stone: …You're not planning to test it on me, are you?][Volkner: Who can say?][Steven Stone: ...]

Honestly, who besides Black-World Ash could even use that move safely?

Without an Aura barrier, the Trainer would be the first casualty.

In a Black World —

White and the others panicked, looking around.

Whose voice was that?

Ash and Pikachu exchanged the same half-smug, half-relieved grin.

"To be fair," Ash said, already making excuses, "their battle is what's twisting the whole region's weather. Their attacks aren't the only problem—the world itself reacts when they clash."

"If Mewtwo hadn't arrived, we would've flattened this mountain… but if they kept fighting, it could've become a real disaster."

Mewtwo floated beside Ash, holding the entire shockwave still with two fingers.

In the end, only the super-ancient Pokémon themselves suffered the full consequences.

The blast wave was compressed and contained for several long seconds under Mewtwo's control.

During that time, Ash scooped up a trembling Jigglypuff and hugged her close, chatting with Mewtwo via telepathy about what had happened.

The newcomer edged over to Brock and Misty, whispering questions about Mewtwo—and what on earth was going on with Pikachu.

Brock, usually shameless when a pretty girl was involved, kept his mouth shut for once.

He wasn't going to sell out Ash's secrets.

Nor betray Mewtwo.

Misty just shook her head.

Even a hopeless woman-chaser had his trustworthy moments.

Meanwhile, the blue light finally dissipated under Mewtwo's control.

Gengar and Alakazam were revealed—charred, battered, and smoking in patches.

Even after taking a full-power Thunder Kirin…

Neither of them had fainted.

That was the terrifying part of super-ancient Pokémon: their endurance.

In raw offense and defense, modern Champion-level Pokémon might match them.

But in stamina and "how long they can keep going," it was a different story.

Of the two, Gengar—the one Ash targeted—was clearly worse off.

He glared at Ash, both hands already forming twin Shadow Balls.

Ash didn't want to single Gengar out.

But his own Aura and physical power didn't work well on Ghost-types.

If Mewtwo hadn't arrived, the plan had been simple:

Ash stalls Alakazam. Pikachu buys time against Gengar.Hold out until Mewtwo arrives.

He hadn't expected Mewtwo to reach them this fast.

Now—

Shadow Balls and psychic flashes surged forward.

Mewtwo raised one hand.

Both attacks froze midair.

Then he clenched his fingers.

"Boom!!"

Psychic and Shadow Ball shattered into glittering motes of light.

Cold sweat slid down both super-ancient Pokémon's faces.

For the first time in who-knew-how-long, both felt the urge to run.

Mewtwo didn't give them the chance.

His psychic power shifted into a crushing sleep command.

In an instant, both ancient Pokémon dropped into deep slumber.

Then Mewtwo telekinetically forced them back into their respective relics—the ancient artifacts Ash's group and Team Rocket had uncovered.

At the same time, as Gengar's body dispersed, three figures were spat out onto the ground.

Jessie. James. Meowth.

Mewtwo caught them with psychic power and floated them in front of him.

Why are these three here again? Mewtwo asked Ash, genuinely puzzled.

"Good question," Ash said, eyes narrowing. "I was wondering where Gengar came from… now I have my answer."

"The real culprits are right here."

He turned his head.

"Pikachu—send them off."

"Pika—CHUUU!!"

"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off agaaaaain—!!"

PS:

Norman – Gym Leader of Petalburg City in Hoenn; father of Max and Haruka. Strict but caring, worries about his kids talking in the livestream.

Max – Norman's son. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Pokémon, but still a child, often scolded for butting in.

Haruka – Norman's daughter (May's counterpart). Curious about Ash and quietly admires him, but obeys her parents and stays silent in the chat.

Super-Ancient Gengar – Giant corrupted form of Gengar sealed in a black relic. Uses Dark Pulse and Shadow Ball, has Champion-tier stamina. Targeted by Thunder Kirin.

Moves & Techniques

Rain Dance – Used by Pikachu to set up a storm and amplify electric attacks. Here, it's the setup for Thunder Kirin.

Thunder Kirin – Ash and Pikachu's signature ultimate move:

Mechanically: a supercharged Thunder variant shaped into a giant blue lightning unicorn.

Requires Rain Dance, Aura Fusion, and Light Ball.

Power: Several times stronger than before; enough to seriously injure Champion-level Pokémon and flatten entire mountains.

Collateral damage is enormous; considered unsafe for normal competitive arenas.

Thunderbolt (100,000 Volts) – Used to counter Dark Pulse and stray blasts from the ancient Pokémon.

Thunder – Used earlier to damage Gengar; here referenced as Pikachu's high-end electric attack.

Psychic – Alakazam's high-power psychic attack used to try and restrain Thunder Kirin.

Psybeam ("Illusion Light") – The colorful psychic beam Alakazam fires later alongside Gengar's Shadow Balls.

Dark Pulse – The black spiral energy wave Gengar first fires at the group.

Shadow Ball – Gengar's primary Ghost-type attack; its massive Shadow Balls can crater mountains, but are shattered by Mewtwo's power here.

Hypnosis – Mewtwo's psychic sleep technique that instantly knocks out both super-ancient Pokémon.
