Chapter 2 - chance encounter

Closing the door of my childhood home, I was about to leave this place. And never come back because of the memories. Funny enough, those memories are also why I stayed for so long until now. Leaving my childhood behind, wearing the suit, I was heading for my next steps in killing the apex predator of the planet, or I was, until I heard whimpering. Strange, since nothing on this planet is safe to be near. But curiosity has a firm hold on me. So, being a dumb ass, I investigate it, AFTER turning on the cloak setting on my suit.

The crater ahead was recent. Getting close and looking in, there was a dismantled and abandoned broken cage in the center. Looking closer, it looks like a hellhound, a doglike creature the Yauja used to hunt. Strange, since the Yauja who come here aren't alive long. I was going to leave, till something about it caught my eye. This little thing is blind. My body refused to move, then after a while, I groaned and went down into the crater and turned off the cloaking setting. As expected, the hellhound growled and snapped at the air. It couldn't see me, so there wasn't really much point in keeping the setting on or off, anyway.

Grabbing the bars of the cage and using the suit's strength, I pulled the bars aside to reach the hellhound. It bit at my hand and tried to do damage, but the suit was too thick.

"Quit it, I'm trying to help, little bastard," I said, picking up the Hellhound. Holding the scruff of its neck, it mostly just squirmed, and I got to look it over. "Nothing bad, just some bruising. But I'd guess someone sent you here to die. Just because you are blind."

Rubbing my thumbs in circles on its shoulder, it was still squirming, but not trying as much to bite.

"That's better, no more biting." Petting its head, I carried it away with me. "You are gonna need a name. My mother used to tell me about a person named Douma, who was a pain in her ass. You are similar, so why not Douma?"

The little hellhound made an almost yip noise. Assuming he likes it, I will call him Douma. At least, I think he's a boy. If he's not, then screw it. Douma is Douma. Now that there is a new companion, I FINALLY left the area and headed into the terrain. I will need to adjust my suit to carry Douma, though. I can't take him with me everywhere like this, but I don't know if he would attack me because of my scent. I will have to look into that. But for now, going out to find a new temporary place to stay and adjust my suit proportions.

Most likely the chest, if Douma doesn't react badly to my scent. But for now, I am just going to carry this guy till I find a good place to make camp for the night. Just need to keep an eye out for any threats that will come in at any time and attempt to take my and Douma's lives. The little devil is awful squirmy, though. Every so often, he has to be adjusted and moved in my arms so he won't cause problems for travel.

"You are so needy," I told him. Doubt he knows what I am saying, but still. Better than talking to myself. Douma continued squirming and just being difficult. He will probably need a pen if he doesn't react well to my scent. He might be okay, seeing how he is reacting to the smell of my suit, but then again, it probably has the scent of a Yauja more than mine. I will just have to wait and see over time, and when he gets a sniff of my sleeve. As the sun began to set at night, I found a short, ended cave that would suffice as a place to rest. I can see what good things tomorrow will bring me.
