Cherreads

Chapter 10 - View of the Original I

[Blood Diary Entry - ???]

I woke up with a terrible headache pulsing in my head. Felt like I had a hammer banging on my temples.

My throat was dry; in fact, everything was dry—I could feel my veins scraping against one another.

There was also that stinging feeling on my chest.

But even then, I could not quite focus on any of it.

Because of the thirst.

God, the thirst, it was awful.

Everything else just faded in comparison.

It took all of my willpower to get even a semblance of control; things could go really bad if I just allowed myself to rampage. I have enough skeletons in my closet as is.

I looked up and all I could see was a wooden lid. I didn't think much of it and just ripped it off.

I got out of a-

A coffin?

Looking down, I saw a dagger, the root of that stinging from before. Annoyedly, I rip the thing off and toss it on the ground.

Anger flared up inside me. I was starting to piece together what had happened to me, but at the moment, I had more pressing things to attend to.

I looked around and all I could see were boxes and more boxes. I was in a warehouse of sorts, but it still looked off…

I focused on my senses, hearing and smelling everything around me, yet I found nothing.

I rushed out of the door, busting the thing clean off its hinges.

The darkness of the night welcomed me. Though it was all the smells and sounds that caught my attention. I heard cars roaring down the streets, I heard people talking all around, but it was all so different from what I remembered.

I looked up towards one of the buildings. I crouched down slightly, my muscles tensed and released the next instant.

With a burst of strength, I shot up to the sky. Reaching towards the edge of the building, but in my state of hunger, my power fell short, and I almost didn't reach the edge at all—if I were at full strength, I would have shot way beyond it easily.

I felt frustrated, and I felt angry.

I looked around, and the first thing I noticed was the clothes. I looked down at what I was wearing, a blood-stained white dress covered in sequins. Whereas all below me were wearing more subtle, minimalistic styles. They weren't quite as eye-catching or elegant as what I was wearing, but I think I quite like this new style. Next were the cars; they looked kinda boring, completely lacking the flair I'd grown accustomed to.

Then my gaze drifted to a young lady screaming in an alley, a brunette with an innocent air about her. She was being dragged by this brute of a man—bald, leather vest filled with odd patches, tattoos creeping up his neck. He smelled of alcohol, but the smell that was most present in him was that of lust.

My nose wrinkled in disgust. This wasn't going to be a very pleasant meal, but I'm getting hungrier by the second.

I sigh and jump towards that alley.

I landed on the ground without making any sound.

My gaze lifts towards the back of the filth.

In a blur of speed, I got behind him.

He is much taller and bulkier than I am, which kind of makes reaching his neck a bit of a chore, and I refuse to climb this scum.

I kick him behind his knee; a sickening crack echoes in the alley. He falls to his remaining good knee, screaming in pain.

Finally allowing myself to indulge, I sink my fangs on his neck, biting with as much strength as I could, to ensure he couldn't run and would feel as much pain as possible, without me actually ripping the flesh of his neck clean off.

He is completely drained in mere seconds. His body goes limp, and he falls with a dull thud.

I am not nearly satisfied. My thirst persists.

My eyes shift towards the brunette, and I am sure I must look quite terrifying to her right now.

I rush towards her, lifting her by the neck with a single hand.

An evil smirk tugs the corner of my lips.

But before I could feed off of her, I saw her look of abject terror—of helplessness. For a split second, I see a blonde little girl, the picture perfect of defenseless, golden hair that shone like the sun; she looked at me, in her eyes I saw no judgment, no disgust, just a question: 'Is this what you really want to do? Is this what you have become?'

I looked back at the girl I was holding, who was on the verge of fainting from asphyxiation and sheer terror. In the eyes of this one, I was indeed a monster, which made my heart ache more than I would like to admit. I thought I had outgrown this… Guess I was wrong.

Sighing, I put her down. I look at her eyes and start speaking in an imperious tone.

"You remember nothing of what happened in this alley. You will go back home. You will fall asleep, and tomorrow this night will be nothing more than a blur."

I release her and rush away.

I do the same thing a few more times, feeding whenever I can. Some I killed, some I let go, but every trash I killed absolutely deserved it.

Soon enough, all the streets are empty. I can see his hand all over this. But by now I was already satisfied.

Now I should go and see that bastard of a brother of mine. Annoy the living hell out of him and then go search for Stefan, if he is not already waiting for me. The thought makes me smile sweetly. He was the most interesting thing that happened in a while for me.

As soon as those thoughts crossed my mind, I felt something calling to me. Pulling me. A really peculiar feeling, one I had never felt before. My heart—which was barely beating after the magic mother cast on us—pulsed with a strange rush of excitement.

I sprinted towards where I felt the calling come from, jumping from one rooftop to another.

Soon enough, I saw the most peculiar of sights.

A pair of what I could only guess were mother and son, a vampire from a foreign bloodline, and hiding in the dark was that bitch—Katerina Petrova. The doppelganger that escaped my brother.

Were this any other day, I would have blitzed straight at her and dragged her by the hair straight to my brother. But right now, I was seeing something that demanded more of my attention.

The mother had been wounded right before I got here—fatally, if I am not mistaken.

And the boy…

Oh, the boy was emanating the most interesting feeling in me. Curious.
