I was surprised since it had been a while since Miu last called me. She sends me messages every day, but it's been some time since I last heard her voice.
After all, I'm not going to school anymore.
I've been filming almost every day, and when I'm not filming, I'm writing or drawing. I don't have time for school. Fortunately, my mother managed to work things out with the principal.
I'll need to do some assignments at home and go to school to take exams from time to time. If I do that, I'll be able to complete my studies without any problems. The only downside is that I can't see Miu almost every day like I used to.
We could meet outside of school, but whenever I suggest it, she refuses.
I don't know the reason behind that.
I asked if it was because of her parents or something like that, but that's not the case.
"Kyo? Are you listening?"
"Ah, yes. I got distracted."
"I see. How is filming going? You haven't told me much about it."
"Well, we haven't had the chance to talk over the phone. And talking only through text is boring. I'd rather talk to you like this." I was being honest. I like hearing Miu's voice.
"So, how is it? Is everything going well? You said there's a really beautiful actress there, right? I think her name is Eiri. I looked her up, but I couldn't find anything except a few pictures."
"She's an actress with a long career, but I'd never heard of her either," I said.
"I see... But she really is very beautiful..."
"What is it? Are you jealous because I said she's beautiful?"
"W-What? Have you lost your mind!? Of course not!" Miu panicked for a moment.
"I'm just joking. No need to get so nervous. But don't worry, even though I think she's very beautiful, I'm not interested in her. And she doesn't seem interested in me either."
"You don't need to explain yourself to me," Miu said.
Then I thought I heard her mutter something. Unfortunately, I couldn't make out what she said.
"Anyway, let's talk about you now. You didn't call me just to ask about my work, did you?" I said. "You told me you were preparing a surprise for me. I'm curious."
"About that... The surprise isn't really a big surprise... Actually, it has more to do with me than with you. But I'm only doing this because of you, because you supported me."
Hearing her words, I started to get an idea of what this so-called surprise might be. Should I say something, or should I just pretend I don't know?
Then I heard a laugh on the other end of the line.
"You already know what it is, don't you? You have great intuition after all."
"Yes, I know. You're going to publish a novel, right? I told you to do that."
"Yes, that's right."
I smiled and said, "I'm happy to hear that. I'm looking forward to reading what you publish. I'll definitely be one of the first people to buy it."
"You don't have to buy it. I can send you the entire first volume by email if you want."
"I refuse to accept that. If I do, I won't be supporting your work." I laughed. "So, what did your parents say about it? You need someone to sign a contract, don't you?"
"I got help from my aunt," Miu said. Her voice sounded sad. "I decided not to tell my parents about it. I don't think it's a good idea right now."
"I see..." Miu's relationship with her parents is very complicated.
I've asked her about it a few times before, but she always refuses to talk about it. She tells me not to worry, but I can't help it.
"Kyo, don't think too much about it. My relationship with them used to be much worse."
"I'm glad things are getting better between you and them."
"Yeah... I hope that someday everything will go back to the way it was before."
So her family used to be very close at one point...
That's why it hurts her so much.
*Sigh...*
I let out a sigh and decided to change the subject. I asked a few questions about the publisher she signed with and found out it was the same publisher I have a contract with.
That makes us "coworkers."
Miu deliberately chose the publisher that handles my works, of course.
Then time passed.
Before I realized it, it was already time to sleep.
I said goodbye to Miu and then took a shower.
Tomorrow I have to go out and film again.
"Tomorrow I have to film a kissing scene with Eiri. It'll be my first kissing scene."

POV: Kyo
As soon as Kyo got up the next morning, he replied to a few important emails and then sat down in his office to write.
And just like that, three hours passed.
He had written nearly twenty thousand words during that time.
Then he took a shower and received a message from Rina telling him she had arrived at his front door.
He left his room and ran into his mother, who was smiling at him.
"It's today, isn't it? The kissing scene."
Kyo couldn't understand why his mother seemed so excited about it.
Did she really want to see her son kiss a girl?
"Why do you seem so excited about that?"
"You've never kissed anyone before, have you? It's going to be your first kiss, so of course I'm excited."
"Who said I've never kissed anyone?" Kyo said.
"Wait, you've already done it?" his mother asked, surprised.
Kyo let out a sigh and walked away.
He ignored his mother's questions.
As soon as he stepped outside, Kyo saw Rina smiling at him. Her smile was different from usual.
'This is annoying. It's just acting,' Kyo thought, feeling impatient.
