Chapter 7 - New mantra.

"Is it really okay if I borrowed this?" Lin Fan wanted to experiment. He wanted to find out which mantra is better; the one in the strange temple or the Thunder Flame art.

"Go ahead and use it but you can only borrow it for ten days," the chief said smilingly. No matter how much he trusted Lin Fan, he could not let it spread that he had lent the technique to an outsider. There was only one copy of it, a remnant of the ancient era. Normal villagers were not even taught it, yet this outsider was practically offered to take it. If his ancestors knew of this, they would probably vomit blood and die all over again.

Chief Yan decided to explain the origins of the technique. "Each village has a different special technique, exclusive only to the ruling families. These technique all strengthen the user yet they also give rise to special abilities when mastered. Our technique enhances speed and produces the fastest attackers at the same level."

"Great. I can't wait to try it."

Lin Fan was then shown to a room which he would stay in the meantime. The enrollment to Linghun sect would take place in a month so he needed to practise.

As soon as he arrived, he immediately started practising, each move focused and swift, trying to imitate the diagrams in the book. It took him a whole week to succeed in completing a perfect set but after the rigorous training, he was exhausted. He immediately began to use the thunder flame mantra to energize. He felt the flow of heat from his heart flowing to the rest of his body. His body began emitting an intense fiery aura and a pain akin to being lit on fire. He grit his teeth and tried to endure the pain. It was torturous and for the first time since his childhood, he shed tears. These didn't even last long enough to even reach past his nose as they were vaporized instantly.

Suddenly, his body began emitting a golden glow and the strange bell inside him flew out and began to float in front of him before producing a powerful suction force that literally absorbed his aura. It felt as though his skin was being pulled off forcibly. He began to scream. He had to endure this torturous pain for a whole two hours, though to him it felt like days had even passed.

When the bell stopped sucking, it began to glow even brighter. It then flew back into him. What just happened? Lin Fan was confused.

Suddenly, he felt something; the bell was humming a mantra. This one was different, it sounded like a combination between the mystic mantra and the thunder flame art.

Without wasting a single moment, he decided to imitate its chant. He began chanting the new mantra. His body began to glow a thunderous yellow and emit a lot of heat, though this time it was manageable. He continued for about a day, and with every passing hour, he felt stronger and more accustomed to the heat.

He now felt stronger but more evident was how light he felt. When he tried to throw a punch or a kick, the speed was more than twice his original speed. He was impressed. He now understood that the bell had taken his aura to create a technique that combined the two and brought out the maximum potential of each technique. What is the origin of this bell? How could such a powerful object exist that could even improve a technique from the ancient era? What would others do to him if they knew that he had such a magnificent treasure?

Life on the streets back in his village had made him understand the truth of human nature. Lin Fan was no fool; he understood that if people could rob others for a sack of food back in Modu village, they could kill others for such a priceless treasure. He had to keep this secret. In this era where the strong eat and the weak is meat, revealing such a powerful tool would be the equivalent of courting death. He still had two days to return the technique. He decided that instead of returning it then, he would return it when the time limit had lapsed to avoid suspicion.

In a little over twenty days, they would leave and he had to be prepared. He decided that for the most part he would keep training but for now he had some questions for a certain woodcarver.
