Chapter 8 - The Mutant Community Date? (Part 1)

Winter, it was a lovely time of year and personally one of my favourites. In my last life I had loved the feeling of waking up under the warmth of blankets whilst the cold air tickled my face. Waking beside my fiancé had only made the mornings better. It was the small things in life that made one wish to wake up the next day. Unfortunately my woman betrayed me and I was now an amalgam between two versions of myself. Fate, destiny, whatever had caused me to 'reincarnate', so to speak, had a plan... I was sure of it.

"Ughhh" I groaned as hundreds of people walked past me in the mall. Crowds were a pain and usually sparked my inner introvert, I disliked most people because of this. There were few exceptions to my dislike of people, like my sister, but that usually just made me clipped and rather snippy. Never would the crowd have made me groan...

No, that privilege was reserved for fuckery... And oh my, was there fuckery afoot. Looking behind me I watched as two distinct people were walking towards me, their eyes clearly glued to me despite their best efforts to hide their interest.

'Of course I just had to draw the attraction of the X-Men.' I blinked lethargically whilst exhaling slowly.

The X-Men were cool and all, in the comics and movies... In real life? They were a group of goody-two-shoes that professed equality between humans and mutants whilst pragmatically separating themselves from human society, sequestering themselves away at a private school that was purely for those of mutant-kind. In a way they weren't practicing what they were preaching. Between them and Magneto's brotherhood, well, there was little difference except what they preached... Xavier just concealed his belief that mutants were better, instead of flaunting it.

Shaking my head and turning towards a nearby book store I kept track of my stalkers. Both were women, obviously, why would they use anything else against me? Walking into the store I began browsing the modern fiction section, finding some relatively interesting fantasy that I barely even glanced at; though I faked interest to get a good look at the women.

Both were beauties in their own right with curves that would make most women jealous and most men drool. Looking at their hair I found that one had white and black hair that framed her soft jawline and features, Rogue... Fuck I liked Rogue in the comics and in the movies... Mentally slapping myself I tracked the other woman. She had sunlight-bathed brown hair with bright orange irises and a confident smirk. This was Kitty Pryde, she could phase through any surface if she wished. Rogue, well, there was some contention in the fandom but she could syphon the bio-electric energy inside the body whilst also reading through your memories and taking a form of your abilities for herself; temporarily/permanently.

I sighed as my psychic ability triggered and I remembered a memory that I hadn't had... The things that people do in the oddest of places... Sex in the middle of a book store, really? I shook away the images and continued my mental observations of the women.

Rogue was a massive threat if she were to attack me, not that that was likely. Kitty could be a massive pain if things came to blows but that was unlikely also. Both of them were definitely here to attempt to recruit me or at least establish communications. That in mind, I closed the book and turned to face Rogue, who had been slowly inching closer to me as I processed their presence.

"How can I help the X-Men today?" A startled yelp escaped Kitty behind me as she stumbled. They sure seemed inexperienced in this whole recruitment thing.

"U-um... Ahum" She floundered for a few moments before clearing her throat and smiling towards me. I almost swooned at her blushing face, she was too cute... And I was simping like an idiot, fuck me I need to settle down.

"Hello Mr. Frost-" I Interrupted her abruptly by holding my hand up.

"Just Drecarios. Mr Frost reminds me of my asshole of a father." She slightly bit down on her bottom lip, her blush growing slightly.

"O-okay... Hello, Mr. Drecarios, I am here representing the mutant community on behalf of the X-Men." Her tone was nervous but she was surprisingly composed when it came to the rest of her intro. "My name is Rogue and I was wondering if you may have some time to have a chat?"

I couldn't help but lick my lips as I looked her up and down, her skin-tight clothing giving me devious thoughts. Being able to gaze at her properly I found that she was obscenely gorgeous, her lips soft and plump whilst her eyes; a deep velvet, shyly slinked across my body. We were checking one another out.

"As long as it can be considered a date, love. It'd be a shame to have you all serious and rigid whilst chatting." The small blush previously lightening her face turned into a vibrant display of embarrassment and perhaps a mixture of attraction, I couldn't really tell as I fought down my own spark of lust. I needed to calm down before the brain-down-below™ made stupid decisions that could fuck me over.

"Ah-a-ah, um, ah, Kitty...! Help..." Rogue became a flustering mess with a simple invitation for a date. I growled internally whilst turning around to face Kitty Pryde who was widely smirking, her eyes glimmering in hilarity at Rogue's situation. She was even coyly leaning against a book shelf with her arms tucked beneath her breasts.

"Nah, I think you've got this girl. Have him wrapped around your thumb already." She gave a thumbs up whilst smothering a laugh as Rogue glowered in her direction.

Rogue's glower faltered immediately as I quizzically raised my eyebrow in her direction, a thorough blush permeating her face and neck simultaneously.

"So? Is it a date?" She looked to the ground and nodded softly, turning around and walking away quickly. I laughed and followed her calmly, watching as she waited outside the shop; her hands lightly playing with the sides of her winter-jacket.

In the comics her story was tragic and incredibly lonely. Her powers isolated her from friends, allies and family alike whilst making her recoil at using her abilities against enemies. The event that occurred after her powers awakened left a mental scar and fear that ate away at her self confidence and self worth. In many ways she was broken... And I couldn't help but start considering if I could help her in some way.

Technically speaking her powers were psychic is origin with a small energy manipulation ability created from that same source. She could temporarily gain access to other mutant abilities and in the comics had found a way to keep abilities such as flight and super strength permanently. Thus it was only reasonable to assume that if one could block the psychic element of her abilities, the USB; so to speak, of her powers, then one could be completely immune to her touch.

'Am I mad?' I willed the chat screen to hover before my eyes and began mentally typing words into the interface.

Drecarios Frost- Hey guys, need some advice here...

Jester Lavorre- Yah! Totally! What do yah need aDvIcE on?

Luke Skywalker- I am present. Though if you need Loki or Tony they are currently busy.

Drecarios Frost- Nah, you guys should be fine... I just needed some advice on psychic powers

Luke Skywalker- Intriguing, continue.

Jester Lavorre- Ohhh! You mean like reading MINDS!!! Yah, I know summa that! ✨

Drecarios Frost- Well, I am on a date with a woman who has the psychic ability to drain the bioelectric field of a person through touch... It allows her to copy other people's powers and read their minds/memories... My question, mainly, is if I had sufficient mental shields could it nullify that ability?

Jester Lavorre- Yah, TOTALLY! In my, wOrld, mind stuff is basic! Magic items can CRUSH them, pretty effectively... Spells can do the same, depends, though.

Luke Skywalker- Hmm, in my experience matters of the mind are most complex and usually involve traumas and pains from the past and present. If this is a power that is left constantly on, as it seems you are framing it to be, then it would sound as if she is subconsciously channelling her powers to protect herself, perhaps?

Drecarios Frost- Magic items and spells are out... What's your take on my chances Luke?

Luke Skywalker- It is certainly possible to resist mental intrusion and metaphysical syphoning... However, it comes with some dangers that could lead to permanent injury. It all depends on how powerful her ability is and whether she can control its input and output levels.

Drecarios Frost- Riiiight... So essentially, it's a toss of the coin...

Luke Skywalker- A quaint colloquialism, but, essentially, yes.

The chat went near-silent as I digested the chances of my gamble; Jester spamming the chatroom with various emojis.

Drecarios Frost- Thanks guys

Luke Skywalker- Don't mention it.

Jester Lavorre- 😈😈😣😣😣👌👌👌

I resisted the urge to shake my head at Jester's antics, my eyes slowly focussing on the cute behind of Rogue in front of me. I just had to find some point in this exchange to grab her hands. After being betrayed by my girl I understood the crushing weight of not having anyone to lean on or care. Rogue had lived with that same pain for years most likely, I felt for her.

"So...? Want to go to a café or a Starbucks?" Rogue gulped a little, slowing her pace enough to fall in beside me.

"Starbucks " her words were whispered as she tried to look anywhere but at me. Her 'ally' was snickering behind us, her entire demeanour bordering on mad cackling and honest affection for her friend.

I scooted up close to her and draped my right arm around her shoulders, her entire body flinching as I did so, not that I deigned to notice. She needed to get over the fear associated with close contact. If she could see I was fine despite draping an arm over her clothes she would become more open to sharing further physical contact, especially after going so long without it; intentionally on her part.

She panicked and tried to push me off but floundered as she noticed I wasn't screaming or collapsing onto the ground. I simply gave her a cheshire grin and slowly began talking about mundane things; the weather, the traffic getting here and the general state of New York.

The chatter calmed her down and focussed her energy on simply talking to me. She apparently liked the fearless contact, her body unconsciously leaning into mine. I mentally groaned at the sensations that that gesture gave me but held back any of my more lascivious traits or instincts. She was really hot and was practically crying out for affection. For someone like me, who was damaged from betrayal, her innocent acceptance and deep need for care was akin to a love potion. How was I supposed to say no to this bombshell of a woman with her shy personality and scars just as deep as mine?

The answer was, I couldn't. Some would call me a simp, others a degenerate... and to them I say, 'yeah, so what!'. She could probably understand me just as well as I could understand her and honestly she was practically throwing herself at me with how wondrously oblivious to the signs of attraction that her friend was well aware of.

'Wait! Why was this all going so well...?' I had that insidious doubt-filled thought amidst the utter cacophonous madness of the last few minutes.

'I just met her and she accepts a date and then allow me to drape an arm around her shoulder. How the fuck does that work?' Flickering through all of my meta knowledge of Marvel I began considering some truly fucked up psychic abilities.

The trust field was an example and mainly used by Charles Xavier, the fucking hypocrite. My mind whirred away at the possibility that I had a similar but differing field that made me more attractive or seen as harmless. There was no evidence to support the concept but It would make more sense than me being able to charm the pants off of two X-Men and invite one out to a date; even if I know the characters their based off of.

I couldn't say I was unaffected by the consideration but I could do nothing about it right now and it was working to my advantage... I'd just have to continue forwards until I could research my own powers later tonight.

We queued inside the Starbucks and eventually ordered some basic coffees and iced-teas... Now began the hard part, getting them to reveal why they were here to see me and what it meant in the grand scheme of things.
