Chapter 2 - An Unexpected Encounter

But just as I turned toward my house, loud sounds of battle echoed from the main square.

— Did you hear that?

— Someone's fighting the city guards!

— No way! Let's go check it out!

At first, I was scared to go there, but at that moment, curiosity outweighed fear.

So, I decided to take a look and see what was going on.

Pushing through the crowd, I finally reached the main square and saw the city guards fighting against a mysterious figure — the same one who had left the necklace that fused with me last night.

Countless questions swirled in my mind:

Where did that necklace come from? Why did he leave it? And what is the meaning of this mark that appeared after it merged with me?

So many questions… and not a single answer.

After a moment of hesitation, I decided to do something — anything — to make him notice me and finally get some answers.

The only idea that came to mind was to shout, hoping he'd hear me.

What, did you think I'd jump into the fight? No way! I'm not stupid — my life is worth more than that.

"Sir!" I shouted, hoping my voice would reach him.

Of course, with all the chaos around, he didn't hear me the first time.

But I didn't give up!

I kept watching their fight closely, and after a few more exchanges, both of them jumped back, locking eyes with one another.

That's when I shouted again:

"Sir!!"

And this time — he heard me.

As soon as the person noticed me, they suddenly dashed in my direction.

When they got closer, I realized… it wasn't a "sir" at all — but a stunning young woman!

Her hair was blue, like a clear summer sky.

Her eyes glowed red, like freshly spilled blood.

When she came close enough, she whispered softly into my ear:

"If you want to know the answers you seek… come to Moonlight Peak.

There, you will find me — and I will tell you everything."

And just like that, she vanished into the crowd.

"She went that way! After her!"

"Yes, sir!"

Then everything went dark.

"Hey, kid! You okay?! Someone get a doctor!"

"I'm here! Quickly, take him home!"

When I opened my eyes, I groaned through a pounding headache.

"Ugh… how long was I out? What happened? My head's killing me…"

Before I could even get my bearings, my mother threw her arms around me, tears streaming down her face.

"I was so worried!! You were unconscious for half an hour!!"

(I might not have mentioned this before, but my mom is very emotional.)

Even my usually stoic father looked deeply concerned.

But there were also two unfamiliar people in the room.

As my parents explained, they were doctors from the Society of Immortal Healers, who had come to examine me.

After the examination, one of them said:

"You're perfectly healthy. The exact reason you fainted isn't fully clear to us.

Most likely, your balance between Yin and Yang was disrupted, and your body went into a kind of protective slumber.

If that imbalance had grown worse, your dantian and meridians would have exploded — resulting in instant death.

In short… you're very lucky."

"I see. How long will it take for me to recover completely?" I asked.

"Roughly a week and a half, maybe a little longer. It depends on how fast your body stabilizes.

Just don't overexert yourself, and you'll be fine," they replied.

After they left, I told my parents everything that had happened.

After a long silence, my father finally asked:

"So… what are you planning to do now?"

"I don't know," I muttered. "Most likely, I'll go to Moonlight Peak. I need answers."

My mother gently smiled and said:

"Your father and I will support whatever you decide. Just promise to come back safe and sound — that's all that matters.

Oh, and we heard that Moonlight Peak will be holding a selection in two months.

Until then, focus on recovering."
