She paused, letting her words sink in.
"If this is ignored," the doctor added,
"premature contractions may occur. And that would be dangerous, not only for the child, but for Lady Liv as well."
The Grand Duchess, who had been standing near the head of the bed the entire time, tightened her grip on the small rosary in her hands. Her face was tense, yet her eyes burned with resolve.
"Then what must we do?" she asked.
"Keep Lady Liv calm," Ingira answered.
"Ensure she gets adequate rest. Do not push her body beyond its limits. And make certain she feels safe, both physically and emotionally."
The Grand Duke let out a long breath.
He turned toward Jay, studying his son for a long moment before speaking in a low, unwavering voice.
"Listen carefully. The child in her womb is not only the heir of Zelthar…
but also the reason the outside world wants to destroy us."
Jay nodded slowly.
"I understand," he said quietly.
"I will protect her. I swear it."
