Chapter 40 - The Second War

The Second War was afoot.

Frost glittered across the sprawling grounds of the Enchanted Ones' territory, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows through bare trees that stood like ancient sentinels around their hidden sanctuary, while the biting wind carried whispers of the coming battle.

Everywhere, wolves donned their ancient battle regalia—silver-etched breastplates that caught the dying light, leather greaves stained dark with the blood of previous wars, and helms adorned with runes that hummed with protective magic older than memory.

Kyle appeared at the midst of the gathering ready to give a fiery speech.

"Today we fight. And we win!" That was all he announced.

The crowd erupted into a cacophony of howls and thunderous applause—some wolves pounding their armor-clad chests, others raising ancient weapons skyward until they glinted like stars against the darkening horizon, while the younger warriors stamped their feet in a rhythm that shook the very earth beneath them, their eyes gleaming with the golden fire of bloodlust and ancestral memory.

Kyle looked around him. Elliot was nowhere to be seen. He was disappointed but not disheartened. His younger brother would still be by his side after all was said and done.

He went to Priya's bedroom and found her masturbating.

He gulped.

"Do you mind?" She asked.

He was about to leave when Priya called. "Join me."

Priya and Kyle's bodies melded together in the dim light, her caramel skin against his battle-scarred torso, their movements urgent yet tender as the sounds of war preparations echoed outside.

His calloused hands traced the curve of her hip with unexpected gentleness, while her fingers dug into his shoulders, leaving crescent moons that matched the one rising outside—a silent promise between witch and warrior that transcended the coming bloodshed.

Helena had joined Only Furs.

Not as a creator but as a customer.

She couldn't wait for her fuck boy to enter her cabin and get swept by her feet to her bedroom.

Luckily, her mother Nicole was at the Moonwalker camp probably fucking Marcus's brains out.

There was knock at the cabin.

It was the muscular Stefan.

This was the closest she would get to fucking Stephen again. Or even Shawn. Although, the name was closer to Stephen's.

Helena welcomed him inside then landed a hard kiss on his lips. "Let's skip the foreplay."

Stefan nodded. He literally swept Helena off her feet by lifting her up. She motioned towards her bedroom.

He tossed her onto the bed with enough force that her body bounced against the mattress, her dark hair fanning out across the pillows.

Their bodies collided in a frenzy of teeth, tongues and fingernails, each touch igniting her werewolf senses until every nerve ending screamed for more. He growled against her neck—a sound that wasn't quite human—as she wrapped her legs around his waist and surrendered to the primal rhythm that made her forget, if only for these stolen moments, the war that awaited them beyond her bedroom walls.

After the sex ended, she wanted to ask which pack Stefan belonged to, and she had other questions as well. But she let him leave the cabin as soon as they were done banging.

That evening.

Nicole and Marcus were on the latter's bed after a steamy session.

They lay tangled in sweat-dampened sheets, their breathing still slightly ragged, bodies glistening in the silver moonlight that filtered through the half-drawn curtains, neither speaking but both intensely aware of each heartbeat, each breath, each subtle shift of muscle against skin as the afterglow held them suspended between exhaustion and alertness.

The siren sounded.

Marcus sat up abruptly, his battle-scarred torso glistening with sweat in the moonlight, muscles tensing beneath bronze skin as his wolf senses immediately sharpened to their full alertness.

Nicole's amber eyes widened with worry, her full lips parting slightly as she clutched the silken sheet against her heaving chest, and reached for Marcus's arm.

They got dressed in a hurry.

And left their tent to find the encampment transformed into a battleground—wolves in half-shifted forms lunging at shadowy figures, claws ripping through armor, fangs bared in feral snarls. Blood-spattered moonlight caught on bared steel as warriors fell screaming.

"I can end this." Nicole said.

She was the Phoenix after all.

Marcus held up a hand. "First, I want to know who is behind all this."

Just as if it was an answer to his query, he spotted Kyle in the midst of the battle.

Nicole was about to say something but Marcus ignored her as he walked towards his on-and-off-again enemy.

Both he and Kyle were walking towards each other.

They collided like ancient gods—Marcus's silver-streaked claws raking across Kyle's chest armor, drawing a spray of crimson that caught the moonlight like rubies, while Kyle countered with a snarl that revealed elongated canines before launching a counterattack that sent them both crashing through the gathering crowd, bodies intertwined in a deadly dance of fur, flesh, and fury that had been centuries in the making.

Nicole was about to put an end to this but then she spotted Priya at the gate of the compound.
