"Big Brother, aren't we going back with Elder Su?"
Flying side by side in the sky, Zi Yan tilted her head curiously.
Liu Xi turned back with a serious look. "I need to find a treasure — something crucial for your Sister Xian'er. I'll need your help, Zi Yan. But… it might be a little dangerous."
"My help?" Zi Yan's voice rose in delight. Her amethyst eyes sparkled, and a wide grin spread across her face.
"Don't worry, Big Brother! Zi Yan will definitely help you find that treasure!"
By the time they arrived outside Black Emperor City, the sun was already sinking below the horizon.
Behind them, the western sky still burned with orange-red clouds, tinting the world in molten gold.
Standing on a sloped ridge, Liu Xi looked into the distance — at the endless, towering black walls of the city that reached into the clouds. As darkness crept in, the enormous fortress seemed more like a slumbering beast lurking in the shadows, waiting to swallow any intruder whole.
"Big Brother, when do we go in?" Zi Yan bounced on her toes, excitement radiating from her face — she was practically drooling.
Liu Xi placed a hand on her head and smiled.
"No rush. We're not strolling in through the gates — our goal is the Black Emperor Sect's treasury. We'll move when it's deep into the night."
"We're going to steal from the Black Emperor Sect? Big Brother, that sounds so exciting!" Zi Yan's eyes gleamed.
In her years as a magical beast, she had survived mostly by stealing herbs — first from beasts, later from the Inner Academy's stores. This little heist was practically nostalgic for her.
Liu Xi flicked her forehead. "Don't say it like that — we're just borrowing the Bodhisattva Body Transformation Saliva for a while."
Zi Yan stuck out her tongue, brushing her messy violet hair aside. "Borrowing, huh? Then I guess we're never returning it!"
"You're hopeless," Liu Xi muttered, chuckling.
---
When the moon rose high, Liu Xi enveloped himself and Zi Yan in a field of faint spiritual energy. Using the Illusionary Heart Technique, he distorted the senses of anyone nearby.
The two of them soared right over the city walls, walking past layers of guards without drawing a single glance.
The brilliance of the Illusionary Heart Technique was that it completely deceived all five senses — sight, sound, scent, touch, and spiritual awareness. Only those with a spiritual power exceeding Liu Xi's own could possibly detect him… such as Han Feng once had.
Inside the city, streets blazed with light. Merchants hawked their wares, cultivators came and went, and laughter echoed through the night. Yet not a single soul noticed the two invisible intruders above them.
Perched atop a building, Zi Yan whispered excitedly, "Big Brother, this is amazing! Nobody can see us! This makes treasure hunting so easy!"
Liu Xi gave her a flat look, sighing. He could already imagine her dragging him into a lifetime of crime.
"Focus," he said. "Sense where the most precious energy in this city is gathered. That's where our target will be."
Zi Yan nodded eagerly and closed her eyes. Her perception spread out like waves, scanning the entire city. In her mind's eye, every treasure shimmered like a little light — there were so many that she began drooling again.
After a moment, she opened her eyes, which gleamed faintly with violet light. Wiping the corner of her mouth, she said, "Big Brother, follow me!"
---
Liu Xi followed her through the night until they reached the city's innermost sector — a fortified citadel resembling a royal palace. Its gates were sealed, and elite guards stood watch in every direction.
As they entered, Liu Xi sensed a spiritual wave sweep across them — a probing scan, likely from a 3 Tier Alchemist. Too weak to notice anything unusual.
Inside the inner city, numerous strong auras stirred — Dou Wangs, even several Dou Huangs. In the deepest section, a presence comparable to Su Qian himself loomed — no doubt the Black Emperor Sect Master, Mo Tianxing.
Fortunately, Zi Yan's target wasn't there.
Instead, the two stopped before a seven-story tower, each floor guarded by powerful experts — and the topmost level by a Dou Huang.
"If the Bodhisattva Body Transformation Saliva is already secured, it'll definitely be there," Liu Xi murmured.
Zi Yan tugged his sleeve and whispered, "Big Brother, the most precious treasure isn't above… it's below this tower."
Liu Xi blinked, then smirked. "So that's it — Mo Tianxing left a Dou Huang as a decoy. Clever bastard."
He patted Zi Yan's head. "Good thing I brought you along. Otherwise, even I would've been fooled."
They slipped to a concealed corner beside the tower. Liu Xi summoned a wisp of Green Lotus Core Flame, compressing its heat until it barely flickered. Then he pressed it to the ground.
The earth began to glow faintly, melting silently under the Heavenly Flame's might. Soon, a tunnel large enough for two people appeared before them.
They followed the passage downward until a faint light blocked their path — a shimmering membrane of energy.
"Zi Yan," Liu Xi whispered.
"Got it!"
She stepped forward, pressing her tiny hand to the barrier. With a light tug, the energy film tore open like cloth, revealing a narrow gap.
Inside lay a small, bright chamber illuminated by moonstones. Crystal chests lined the walls, each protected by a thin barrier of energy. Only eight of them held treasures.
Stepping inside, Liu Xi's eyes gleamed. Scrolls of Qi Methods and Dou Techniques, rare herbs, refined pills — and at the center of it all, what he sought most: Bodhisattva Body Transformation Saliva.
He hurried to one of the crystal chests. Inside, a faint emerald glow pulsed softly. A viscous green fluid floated midair — alive, almost breathing, rippling as though it had its own will.
The Bodhisattva Body Transformation Saliva.
"Zi Yan!" Liu Xi called, unable to hide the excitement in his voice.
Zi Yan dashed over, reached through the energy film with ease, and lifted the chest containing the treasure. "Big Brother, this is the one, right?"
Liu Xi nodded, smiling. "Exactly. Well done, Zi Yan!"
"Hehe!" She giggled proudly.
"Since we're already here, it must be fate," Liu Xi said with mock solemnity. "Zi Yan, let's take the rest too."
"Okay!"
She eagerly began gathering every last chest.
When she reached the final one — filled with herbs — Zi Yan suddenly stopped and frowned. In the corner of the vault, something lay covered by a white cloth.
"Big Brother… that thing feels weird. Its aura makes me uncomfortable."
Liu Xi's eyes narrowed. "Could it be…?"
He approached and lifted the edge of the cloth. A foul stench hit him instantly. Beneath it lay a massive, decaying magical beast corpse.
"Well, well," he muttered. "Might as well borrow this too."
Pressing his hand to the corpse, a faint light flashed — and the body vanished into his storage ring.
Turning back to Zi Yan, Liu Xi smiled. "Another great find, Zi Yan. That was the corpse of an 8th Rank Heaven Demon Phoenix."
"Heaven Demon Phoenix?" Zi Yan repeated, puzzled.
"I'll explain later. For now, let's get out of here."
Every treasure needed a reason to exist.
And for the Bodhisattva Body Transformation Saliva… this was its destined path.
