"How could this be!" Hun Mo's expression twisted as he cried out, eyes widening in disbelief. His body retreated sharply, dread crawling up his spine—the current strength of the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame gave him a suffocating sense of powerlessness. He had thought to borrow the strength of the Pill Tower's Old Ancestor to let the two destroy each other. Who would have imagined that this Heavenly Flame would turn the tables so completely, mastering even the Refining Sky Ancient Formation that had once been used to seal it.
A cold shiver ran through the old ancestor of the Pill Tower as well; even he hadn't expected the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame to be this terrifying. Yet despite the growing pressure, the childlike face upon his aged soul carried no hint of retreat—only quiet resolve. Though the appearance was that of a ten-year-old boy, his eyes contained the depth of ten thousand years. That courage alone proved why the Pill Tower's Old Ancestor was revered as one of the protectors of the Central Plains.
At the heart of the formation, the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame stood tall, its expression tinged with madness. Its outstretched hands summoned the boundless inferno; every wisp of flame across heaven and earth bowed in submission before it, circling like subjects before a sovereign. Borrowing the energy accumulated by the Refining Sky Ancient Formation over thousands of years, its strength now reached the level of a 7-Star Dou Saint. The difference between mid and high-tier Dou Saints was vast—like the gulf between a Dou Saint and a Half Saint.
"You should feel honored," the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame declared arrogantly, voice echoing through the blazing world. "This is the first time this seat uses the Refining Heaven Formation to kill an enemy. And you—a body born of pills—what will remain once I refine you again?"
The Pill Tower's Old Ancestor stood upright atop his green ox. His tender voice was calm yet unyielding. "It doesn't matter what remains. As long as we endure until the world's tide subsides, the passage between the outer realm and this flame space will close again. Even if you control the formation, you will never leave this place."
This battle was beyond the reach of any below the 5-Star Dou Saint level. Hun Miesheng and Hun Mo hid in the shadows, not daring to confront the flame directly. Far off, Gu Nanhai, Huo Yao, and Yao Wangui—half-dead and scorched from backlash—retreated beside Gu Xun'er.
Gu Nanhai, breathing heavily yet regaining some color after taking a pill, spoke first: "Miss, you must go. I and the Pill Tower's senior will hold him off. Run as far as you can and do not look back."
Gu Xun'er's brows furrowed slightly; though she knew it was the wisest choice, her heart could not find peace. "Grandpa Nanhai…"
Gu Nanhai smiled faintly and waved a dismissive hand. "In the past, I might have hesitated. But now, I am willing. For the sake of the Gu Clan, this old man is content to die. Elder Huo Yao and Elder Yao Wangui share the same resolve."
Huo Yao nodded gravely. Yao Wangui's mouth twitched—'Why do I have to die too?' But under their gazes, he clenched his teeth and nodded in reluctant agreement, praying the Pill Tower's Old Ancestor could somehow suppress the flame.
"What about the others?" Yao Ling whispered.
Gu Nanhai sneered. "They stay. Protecting the Young Miss is their greatest honor. Even if they die here, it will be a privilege."
To the ancient clans, ordinary cultivators were merely ants—stronger ants perhaps, but ants nonetheless. None of them hesitated to throw such lives away.
Meanwhile, the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame lost its patience. The old man upon the ox had dulled its amusement. "Refining Sky Ancient Formation—Refine!"
A calm yet affectionate voice suddenly echoed across the blazing sky. "Little one, you're being naughty again."
A plain-looking young man appeared midair, descending step by step. The Refining Sky Ancient Formation did not hinder him at all; he moved freely within it, his presence serene yet boundless. His eyes—deep, vast, and endlessly compassionate—reflected all things, yet fixated only on the radiant figure of the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame.
There was no need to guess who he was. His appearance alone confirmed it—
The Pure Lotus Demon Saint!
The man who, ten thousand years ago, had come closest to becoming a Dou Di, the previous master of the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame.
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" The flame shrieked in fury, its face twisting as endless flames erupted. It slashed the air wildly, its roar echoing through the heavens. The mentor it once revered—the being it later hated most—stood before it again.
The white flames descended, erasing everything they touched, space itself dissolving silently. Yet when the blaze cleared—
Pa! Pa! Pa!
The young man still stood, unscathed, his calm smile unchanged.
"Little one," the Demon Saint sighed softly. "I have no sons, no disciples. You were always the closest to me. Yet you learned all the wrong things—pursuing slaughter while forgetting compassion." His tone carried sorrow rather than anger. "When we first met, you were pure and innocent. It was I who led you astray. Today, I shall take back what I gave, and let you return to that purity once more."
"Damn you!" the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame roared. "When you lived, you used me to gain glory. When you died, you stole my freedom! And now you want my consciousness? Never!"
"Refining Sky Ancient Formation—Refine the Heavens!"
The ancient formation roared to life. Waves of cataclysmic energy surged, powerful enough to annihilate even a 5-Star Dou Saint in an instant.
"Stop," the Demon Saint whispered gently.
At once, the entire formation froze—then resumed spinning, but now under his control. The flame's power began to peel away, like a cloak stripped thread by thread. A luminous figure emerged from the Demon Saint's body—an ethereal form identical to the Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame but exuding serene divinity rather than fury.
"Come with me, little one," said the Demon Saint.
With the formation reversed, the flame's body was bound midair, powerless to move.
"Damn you… damn you…" The Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame screamed in despair, its power unraveling. A crimson figure was torn from its core, leaving it weak and trembling.
The Demon Saint appeared before it, their faces like mirrors—one calm, one twisted in pain.
"Come with me," the Saint said gently.
The flame's voice trembled, half laughter, half sob. "You never cared how I felt. You're still the same bastard…"
Its body slowly dissolved, merging with the Saint's light. Together, they vanished—gone from the world, as if soothed at last.
As their forms faded, the Demon Saint smiled faintly. The Purifying Demonic Lotus Flame had chosen to follow him willingly. He had once again seen that pure, innocent spark he had loved so long ago.
"Farewell, Senior."
A lazy voice rang out—consciousness returning to Liu Xi. Stretching his arms, he smiled faintly.
"Well then, everyone… the show's over." His eyes gleamed mischievously. "Now it's robbery time. Hand over all your Heavenly Flames."
